I always thought it was Lefé but my sister said Lef at xmas in a way that sounded like she knew something, a bit pointed like. Right after I'd called it Lefé.

You were both correct, Leff in southern(French) Belgium, Leffay in northern(Flemish) Belgium
Edit: Actually I can't spell how the Flemish pronounce it, sometimes sounds like they end it with an 'r'.
