Why can't we sell Charlie Adam?

It was well worth waiting the three years it took for Lucas to improve from utter shit to average.

He may well be, but I don't think we should be putting up with dross in the hope of gradual improvement.

Hopefully Sahin will get here and none of them will get a look in.

We should always play the best players we have. Before his injury Lucas became one of our best players at the time. Anyway, this is a Charlie Adam thread.

You remind me of this poster we used to have... Crump. He used to speak about Lucas in a strikingly similar way.

Then again, perhaps you are right about Hendo. I mean, even moron agrees with you.
lucas was noticable when he was playing wether he played well or badly, also when he joined the comparisons were with alonso, macharano , and sg in their prime. hendo cannot manage to look good or compare himself to adam, and thats why adam rightly may feel br should think about moving hendo on and not him.

Right I'm bumping this cos all reports everywhere have us looking for 5M for him before the window closes.

Charlie Adam is not shite, in fact he's a good Premiership player. How on earth can we not find a club willing to give us 5M for him? This astonishes me, especially when you consider some of the shite that's been bought and sold for ridiculous figures so far this summer.

It does seem strange. He'd provide good leadership and experience at Southampton, would fit in nicely at Norwich and I would have thought Clarke would have been interested at WBA.

I think he'll go though, he's one of those players that clubs are going to try to force us down on, because by and large he hasn't been that much of a success, so clubs will leave it late bidding, hoping to force our hand.

Like you said, he's a good player, I think there were other aspects to him that prevented him playing at the very top level, notably a distinct lack of stamina and ability to cover ground (I know the stats say otherwise).

Maybe because we have a reputation of being mugs?
I mean £35 Million for Carroll.
The Aqua thing.
We're desperate to sell and other teams know it.

If you're offering him to Southampton / Norwich etc then they aren't going to match his wages. That'll be the problem.

Cos he's not fashionable. He has no real media backing unlike most above average but not great premiership players.

It constantly amazes me how most managers believe the agendas & fads perpetuated by the media.

Hopefully that may work in our favour though when it comes to getting shut of downing & Cole in this next week.

And Steven Fletcher is "fashionable" Jon? Fashionable enough to spend 12M?

I don't buy that.

It is strange isn't it ? I have a feeling its the player thats been more difficult. If Fullham really wanted him and he has said that he does not want to move down to London then thats understandable. He probably wants a club up North, so that he can be close to Scotland, which I think is the main reason and not his wages perhaps.

He's a 7-10m pound player.
If we're accepting 5m, surely any club could put him on a good wage considering the savings from the fee.
Weird he hasn't been sold yet, unless he's refusing to leave.

There have been multiple reports of him wanting to fight for his place.

I think he has a right to feel the way he does somewhat considering that the club want to keep Henderson and are quick to want to get rid of him. At least you notice the fat guy on the pitch and has at times shown he is capable. I think its a combination of this and the potential location of the next club he is willing to go to.

First reports of the contrary in today's mirror. If I was him, I'd leave ... It's obvious he has no future here, and he needs to play.

You'd assume sahin coming in & shelvey being given the chance has sent him a message.

Shame cos he works his bollocks off til he can do no more, but he's just not quite fit enough, talented enough, or young enough, to put him above the others we have to choose from.

I can only think he is going and not Henderson is because of the amount we paid for Henderson, otherwise he would have been an adequate backup when everyone else who could potentially replace the BIG is injured.

Read that too...but who would be willing to match his £50.000/week salary? If we want to sell we would probably be paying 30-40%(?) of his wages. That seems to be the Liverpool way these days when it comes to transfers out.

Agree. Not mobile enough, good enough or fit enough. Decent player, his level is mid to lower Prem I think. If he thinks he'll win his place back he's dumber than a bag of spanners though.

He's well better than Henderson. Henderson is going to make Aquilani seem like the signing of the century by the time he gets shipped out.

I doubt winning his place back is his priority. He, his agent and his tart who looks like Michael McIntyre all know that this is the best contract he's ever going to be on in his entire life.

From the Mirror:

Charlie not having a good time: Adam desperate to quit Liverpool but may have to take pay cut

Charlie Adam has admitted to friends that he needs to leave Liverpool.

Adam is surplus to requirements at Anfield just a year after signing from Blackpool because he does not feature in boss Brendan Rodgers' plans.
Rodgers axed him from his squad for Sunday's draw against Manchester City and does not see a role for the midfielder.

Adam knows this and accepts he must try and find another club before the transfer window closes on Friday at 11pm.

However the Scotland international will only agree to a move which is acceptable to him and he does not want to take a big pay cut on his salary at Liverpool, which is approaching £50,000-a-week.

Liverpool have tried to offer him to Fulham as a makeweight in the Clint Dempsey deal without any success. David Moyes is interested in bringing Adam to Goodison Park, but not on his current salary.

Meanwhile Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling has got the thumbs up from Jamaican sprint king Yohan Blake. Blake noted the Kingston-born Sterling's fine full Premier League debut for the Reds against Manchester City on Sunday and tweeted the 17-year-old winger to congratulate him.
World 100m champion Blake, who is the second fastest man in history, tweeted: "Hail up fellow Yardie - Raheem Sterling of Liverpool FC! Big up yourself @sterling31."
