Why are we, the supporters, so apathetic?

We've had a fortunate fixture list which we've done well to exploit, but there's an awful long way to go yet and we're going to need to improve to maintain a top four spot.

Obviously. But don't you think we've done brilliantly well to be top of the Premier League in the absence of Suarez and in spite of injuries to key players?

The last time Hull got promoted I think they were first or second after ten games, something like that, so it's way too early to read too much into it, but it's not BAD news however you look at it. Fingers crossed.

I think 'brilliantly' is too far - we've won 5 matches after all. We're doing well, doing what needs to be done, and worthy of praise.

Lets hope we win more games than Hull did after they were joint league leaders.... 2..... 😉

Onbviously the squads are wildly different, so that's where my comparison becomes absolute crap, but my more serious point is that it's a fragile state for the team, psychologically, as well as us. The last time we challenged, during Rafa's time, you could see the players grow into the battle as each milestone was passed. They've started by winning and they're top. That's one down. They've beaten the mancs. That's two. They've won ugly(ish). That's three. They now need to show themselves as well as us that they can fight with Arsenal, with Chelsea, with Spurs, and still be in the top four at Christmas. Then they and we can really believe. But so far they've been really good.

2 mins 2 seconds in, watch that. That sums up modern day football support for me.

Suarez has just scored to put us 1-0 up, races off in celebration, dives in front of the fans, and there they are too busily trying to get their phones out of their pocket to video/photograph the fucking thing to jump around actually celebrate.

That happens at grounds up and down the country. What the fuck's wrong with people? I realise it's the Anny Rd end of the Centenary which is day-tripper central and probably made-up of folk who are visiting Anfield for the first time, but Christ almighty celebrate the fucking goal.

I remember my first few games at Anfield and when John Barnes scored I ended up about 6 rows down from where I was sitting.

The whole thing's fucked.

Things won't change though. The Club don't give a fuck who goes to the games aslong as the ground is full and the money is still rolling in.

It is a shame though.

It'll get way worse if we ever win the title again. The ground will become packed with twats filming themselves being 'at the match' on their phones. But we won't care much. It's a weird atmosphere though these days. Probably no weirder than elsewhere. It's where the memories are, that's the difference. I hate the new Tesco-style stadia, they're far more suited to the business footie is these days but I never know why I've bothered to go when I'm there. (Mind you, our away support is still phenomenal. I suppose it's the multiplicity of coach parties that does it. As a kid I used to go on a coach where, after a few LFC ditties, they sang IRA songs all the way there and back to away games, and in the end there were too many nutters, er, other nutters, for me to stand, but we did form a solid block once in the ground. Maybe that's it.)

It's like everywhere. People are too busy recording the moment and preparing their Facebook performances to connect withe the now. It's a massive problem, and I am part of it.

As for the league, it's a great start, and after the past four years you'd have to be a right nincompoop not to enjoy it a little 🙂 - but it's just a start

yeah, it's not about footy this camera shit, it's fucking everything. i recommend nuclear holocaust.

1 world class forward papered over the cracks at United last season and they won the League.

Not saying we'll do the same this season as the chances are very slim but we should look at it as a positive thing that we've two top strikers capable of producing the goods when the rest of the team isn't firing.
True enough, who knows if we can luckbox our way to a few big wins over the top 4 we could go all the way.

Can I just say I don't know how people are on their phone at Anfield, I never get any bloody signal in the ground!

Yeah, December is a massive month for us...Spurs, City and Chelsea away...Yikes! Here's hoping we're still in a strong position after them games.

It's always quiet in the ground against shit teams. I'm quiet, I just sit there and watch it. I don't give a fuck.

Ultimately, in 1985 when I was about 12 it was £3 for a kid to get in the kop and if you could get there early enough you'd get in. Now the retail price index difference between now and then is 251%. So that cost now would be £7.50. Me and all my mates would go, and weird as it might seem now if we weren't going to aways we'd sometimes go to Everton. If it was 7.50 now there's no doubt that loads of kids would be finishing playing their Saturday morning games and heading straight to the match as we did.

Imagine it was £7.50 to get in the kop for under sixteens, £15 for adults, everyone could smuggle hip flasks in, and loads of people got there at about 1pm because it was gonna take ages to queue up and it might even fill up by 2 if you were playing someone decent. The docks and factories were massive employers and they shut down at noon on Saturday. Loads of dudes would finish up, nail a few pints and head to the game.

I'm not moaning about any of that or being nostalgic, times have changed... but it's pretty obvious why people don't sing as much anymore. You don't get nearly as many lunatics at the match. You don't get nearly as much drunkenness. And the tradition of gangs of mates from all over the city heading up to the ground fizzing with excitement is over.

The reason Palace and Stoke etc have noisier fans is because the pool of them hasn't been watered down by tourists, glory hunters and day trippers... and both the clubs are based in shitholes with plenty of lunatics. Good luck to them. I'd still rather be us.
I loved your post until the last line, tourists and day trippers usually sing just as loudly or louder than the locals as it's a special occasion for them, regardless of the opposition and not just 'another game against shite' like it is for locals.

I sing everytime I'm there and love it.

Away fans will often outsing the home fans and that's not just at Anfield its everywhere as that's the nature of away fans, a hardcore group of mostly familar friends who are boozing from the early morning and get right into sticking to the home fans.

I dont see the point in leaving early. If you've taken the time to go the match, spent the cash and we're winning. Then you can spend a few minutes extra in traffic on the way home.
I don't like to see any fans leave before the end but at the end of the day if the have paid for a tickets its their option to leave if they want.

It's probably due to a number of different factors.

Surely it's no coincidence that the atmosphere at Football stadiums in the PL has taken a big nosedive since Sky took over?

Yeah! I can't even get a WAP internet connection. This season it was announced that "LFC Fan WiFi" would be available. "Yipee!" I thought. First match I found LFC Fan WiFi on the list but when I tried to connect to it, I got the message "out of range." 😀

Now this LFC Fan WiFi doesn't even show up on the list.

There's always the possibility of people needing to catch a bus/train/flight or whatever.

Attitudes have changed

Fans used to go to support the team, now they go to be entertained.

Also the centenary stand is the most pathetic stand. Singing is non existent and it's filled with moany local cunts.
Except when you are there 🙂

If we are then we can win the title.

That's a huge if though which will mean Suarez Sturridge and Countiho staying fit and playing to their ability

What will be interesting is the reaction of the fans when we drop down the table, which is inevitable. Realistically this season it's about a minimum of European qualification, an outside chance of CL football, and for all the loony's (me) the customary tiny percentage that thinks "we're gonna win the league". Just because.

Starting off in this vein has only raised expectation, as soon as we find out the hard way that our midfield is terrible and it costs us a big result (Arsenal probably) then the knives will be back out again and the forum will be busy and the moaners will be in back in their element.

Great post by Woland anyway.

Far too much negative thinking Mark. When Coutinho and Johnson are back, our midfield will be much better. Dream the dream, for God's sake! 😀

I am dreaming the dream, I'm just massaging the ego's of the moaners who've gone quiet. Tsk!
