Why are we, the supporters, so apathetic?

What's going on here? We're top, we have the most devastating strike partnership in the league, we play some sublime football and have come a long way in a short time.
So why the level of apathy? Why do Liverpool fans feel it's necessary to leave in droves before the final whistle of a solid win? Why is our match thread only six fucking pages long? Do people not care?
Is it because we've all been here before? We don't want to get too attached or excited as we just KNOW it's going to end badly and we don't want to be hurt again? Is that the reason?
Well, it's now seven weeks in and we're still fucking top of the league so when does the apathy end and the excitement begin?

We have had the easiest run of opening fixtures in the last 20 years, and everyone knows it.

To many false dawns over the years and we aren't playing very well.

Definitely this. But at least we're winning these "easy" games. Except Southampton, of course, but we beat Utd, and that more than makes up for it.

In the years gone by, we'd be moaning about not winning the easy games.

So when do we start getting excited then? I reckon if we beat Arsenal in November, people will start to change their views.
I also think another issue is that people are unsure of what the expectations are. We never, in our wildest dreams, thought we'd be top and MAYBE pushing for the league but we originally just wanted top four and at the moment, we're looking good for that.
Will people then be disappointed if we 'only' finish fourth?

I'd be made up with top 4. I think a lot of people are cautious, yet optimistic. There are clearly some things we need to sort out, but we're on our way to fixing them I think.

Fuck. Just realised the title says 'We are we' rather than 'Why are we'.
I don't think I can, or don't know how to so mods, can you please edit and fix it? My OCD is kicking in.

That makes so much more sense.

Oh, right. 😳 No difference then as we won all 3 home matches against the relegated sides
That's what I was thinking and to be exact it should be 3rd from bottom side.

In any case it's still great to see us at the top and with Suarez we will have a chance against any side home or away.

Easily the player in the league.

I think we're scared that this good form is about to end as a) we get punished for not playing well for 90 minutes or b) our schedule gets tougher.

I don't think it will - but it's something that is holding me back from getting too excited and hopeful.

Not apathetic at all, in fact if you check Oncy's signature you'll see me name firmly planted in Dumbledore's army

*puffs chest out*

To a certain degree I would dispute that it's 'easy' though.

4 teams expected to finish in the Top 10 (Villa, Southampton, United, Swansea) including the reining champions and 3 bottom feeders (Stoke, Palace, Sunderland) is neither the easiest nor the hardest, in fact it's pretty much just standard fare.

Considering how we have often struggled to put the relegation threatened teams away it's a very decent start. Now if we beat Newcastle (A), WBA (H) and Fulham (H) and get a point at Arsenal (A) then my expectations may start to get out of hand !

Eh?

Our form has been poor, it's our results that have been boss

I can only speak for my self but I feel its too early to start celebrating. I'll look at the table when we've played 18 games.
We got some very difficult games up ahead. They will indicate how we'll fare this season.

How can we not be improving if we've won or drawn 95% of the minutes played this season.
We've got 10 more points at this stage of the season compared to last.

We're grinding out results even though we arent up to the standards Rodgers expects yet. It means the team is developing and we're starting to get that winning culture back. It isnt that long ago when this team lost just because we were wearing white socks or the other team looked hard on us.

Its to early to tell obviously but I think we have an outside chance of finishing in the top 4. Lets hope we can keep the momentum going. Its just nice to be back on top of the league again. I've missed it.

There aren't any "easy" games in the Premier League nowadays, but I think the helpful fixture list is likely to help us by getting our act together in time to face the big guns. At the moment we rely on Sturridge and Suarez to create the goals without much help from midfield. I think the return of Coutinho to feed them will have a tremendous effect. Also, despite his detractors round here, Johnson will also fix the problems we have been having down the right side when he gets back from injury.

I dont want to play 3 at the back vs Arsenal in November, thats for sure.
That will be suicide.

I think most of us have been conditioned to expect it all to start unravelling. There is also the fact that we haven't played a single game were we convinced throughout. On the plus side, BR is clearly concerned with our failure in this respect, and I'm sure he's going to rectify it. Hopefully, as Portly says, we've got our shit together before we start playing our rivals for the top 4. City, Spurs, Everton and Arsenal (and despite their early woes, Manu) all look like top teams on their day and if we start rolling over these bastards, then I'm going to get excited.

I must say, I'm also excited by the fact that we have the tools to unlock ANY defence, and when Coutinho comes back we could be irresistible.

1 world class forward papered over the cracks at United last season and they won the League.

Not saying we'll do the same this season as the chances are very slim but we should look at it as a positive thing that we've two top strikers capable of producing the goods when the rest of the team isn't firing.

I agree. All teams have weaknesses. If a Man U fan analysed their side as destructively as some Liverpool supporters analyse ours, he would slash his wrists.

I'm sure even Bayern Munich have a weakness, but after seeing them demolish City last week, I'm damned if I know what it is! 😉
