Cheers Vlad.
I think Bren mientioned this once or twice - some supporters must be living off a fantasy that our success in the 70s and 80s was based on a scouse Joga fucking Bonito or something.
We were strong, physical, intimidatory, could play when it was required of course, but this idea that we were a fucking joy to watch year in, year out is ludicrous.
Besides, how many teams in World Football are actually a pleasure to sit and watch week in, week out? 2 maybe?
Fantasy football is exactly that; fantasy.

The 87/88 season and perhaps one or two seasons around that we played some fantastic stuff. Back in the day though, I believe we were great advocates of playing it around the defence and pass backs to the keeper before they made a rule against it.

yes, that's what i've read/seen as well, but i think all teams did that - i mean that's why they brought the rule in. i get the impression that away from home, especially, we were content to play for a 1-0 and shut up shop, but i still think (without actually being there, obviously) we generally played good and attractive football for most of the 70s and 80s. we were always known as a passing team, and had loads of really classy players and some of the football i've seen is excellent.
the key was that winning was everything: when attacking football helped achieve that, as it generally does, we did it; when we had to grind out a result in tough away games or a european final, we were happy to do that as well. and i wouldn't have it any other way.
