What's the story, mourning Illori?

Weird signing. Can't believe he hasn't even played in the reserves

Why can no-one get his name right?

It's worse than Skeretel

At least it's just a spelling mistake, the good thing about him not figuring yet is that we don't have to listen to David Pleat try to make his name sound like a Greek yoghurt!

I think it does too - central defenders are rarely particularly good at age 20.

The worry is that by buying him at this stage of his development then plonking him in the reserves behind four established first team centre backs (I'm not even considering Coates or Wisdom in the equation) runs the risk that we stall his development and cost ourselves a nice wedge that could have been used more wisely in strengthening the first team.

I can only think a deal to sell Agger / Skrtel fell through. Otherwise the deal doesn't make much sense to me.

We seem to do this with young players fairly regularly. It's a really wasteful practice and it's odd that we keep repeating the same mistake.

Yeah but surely this one is a whole new pronunciation. Yeah can't wait til he plays in the last game of a group stage CL game we've already topped next year so we hear him struggle'

'Lorry'
'bad tackle, Yellow Lorry'
'that's dissent! Red Lorry!'

On a serious note... any time I've seen him play for the u21's he seems to play within himself, almost like he's too good for that level and he knows it so he doesn't take it too seriously. I could be mistaking that for a very laid back style of defending though.

For example - I don't remember who the opposition were but he had to come out wide to deal with a winger, without any other defenders backing him up. He let the lad run down the wing a bit before he went over and completely dominated him, I get the impression he knew he had him in every way, strength, size etc and just played him like you would with a 10yr old nephew if you were being a nob.

Yes, he's exceptionally mature and ought to be promoted.

Loan? We should've left him at sporting for a while.

Tiago Ilori is the subject of a race between two Spanish clubs who want to take him on loan for the rest of the season.
The Liverpool defender has not made a first-team appearance since joining in the summer from Sporting Lisbon and so will be allowed to spend the final four months of the campaign away from Anfield.
La Liga side Granada have opened talks with the Reds about taking the 20-year-old on loan but they face stiff competition from a Spanish rival.
It has been reported that Valencia are the other side in the hunt for the Portuguese centre-half who Liverpool signed for £7m in the summer.
Granada are seen as in the hot seat to land Ilori but the ECHO understands that they face fierce competition from their domestic rival.
The loan deal does in no way cast doubts over Ilori’s future at Liverpool.

We've got to get this loan destination right though. Having wasted time not even getting a reserve game here, we don't want him to have to sit it out again at Valencia etc

True - I couldn't find any evidence of Lori ever playing for Liverpool Ladies reserves.

Update :

We signed an 18 year old Welsh defender who never played for Liverpool reserves. No one knows his true age or can spell his name. He died while attempting a sex change in order to play for Liverpool Ladies Reserves.

Granada are making a TV series, starring Cilla Black called "What's the Story, Mourning Illori".

The screenplay is based on a letter written by Ryan that GKMacca only heard about 2nd hand, but never received.

Oasis are recording the soundtrack.

Ossi is directing.

"The loan deal does in no way cast doubts over Ilori’s future at Liverpool."

So even if he goes on loan there's still a chance he might get a game with the reserves

BR: Tiago Ilori will probably be sent on loan. He knows what we’re about now, but hasn’t had much game time for the reserves

I prefer this approach to buying him and sending him straight out on loan. Good to get him integrated into the club and for the coaches to get a feel of how he plays/trains etc. I fully expect to see him loaned out in the next 6 months to a team, hopefully Europa League level!

I think we can start getting used to us having a squad that has a large amount of quality younger players that may make the grade. FSG are all about paying their best stars top whack and having a pool of talented and hungry youngsters fighting to get to the top of their profession. I hope that's the case anyway. BR gives kids a chance if they prove the have the fight for it. Flanno and Sterling could easily have lost focus and drifted away into a career at Norwich or Bolton or the like. But they are giving it everything. If it's not working he'll show you the door (see Pacheco, Spearing, Morgan, Shelvey) but if it is you've got a shot. I'm really wrming to BR's style and FSG's commitment to the cause.

[article=http://www.soccernews.com/granada-confirm-tiago-ilori-capture/136267/?]Spanish side Granada have moved to confirm reports they are set to complete the signing of Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori from Liverpool.

The youngster has agreed to join los Rojiblancos on loan until the end of the season in an attempt to gain much needed first team experience.

Granada sporting director Juan Carlos Cordero has revealed that the player is set to undergo a medical before completing the deal.

“There is an agreement between the three parties,” Cordero confessed to O Jogo, adding that Ilori was set to arrive in Granada on Saturday to sign the necessary documentation.

Tiago Ilori came through the youth ranks at Sporting Lisbon and went on to make 11 league appearances for the Lions before signing for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

He has, however, failed to make a single appearance for the Reds this season and was in turn allowed to leave on loan.

Liverpool play host to Aston Villa later today in an attempt to cement the fourth position in the standings.[/article]
