What a bargain!

Was thinking about Lennon at Spurs earlier and how much of a bargain he's turned out for them (bought for 1m). Is he the biggest bargain purchase still playing in the premiership? Reina cost nearly eight times as much but one could argue he's every bit as much the bargain (who could replace him?) You could even argue Torres at circa 20m has proved a bigger bargain - he's got to be worth close to 100m to the likes of Citeh?

So who's the best bargain in the premiership, still playing, based on performances and resale value? Only players purchased allowed (no homegrown).

Fabregas - does he count?

Did Arsenal have to pay Barca a fee when taking him from their youth team?

Considering what he has given them Lampard to Chelsea for 11 million has to be considered a bit of a bargain

Also, he's left now of course but Kolo Toure to Arsenal for £150,000

Hmm... Van Persie for 2.5M? Maybe if he wasn't always injured...

Adebayor? I think he cost at most 5M?

How much did Wigan pay for Palacios and Valencia?

I think Lampard's the best shout so far. Considering the success he's been integral to at Chelsea, the goals he's scored, 11m was an absolute bargain.

Vidic hasn't done too badly for the scum for 7m either.

Got there ahead of me Ken, Doyle for £80k has to be up there.
Veira cost Wenger 3mil from AC Milan, that's a steal.

Anelka was only 500k, sold him for 21mil and rebuilt his squad.

This thread uis about current players, but the obvious alltime winner is probably the fucking french twat at leeds sold by howard wilkinson to the scum for 1.5 million.

Just think... for circa £10m we could have had Aaron Lennon & Ashley Young on our wings... Instead we have Dirk & Riera that cost more than that.

*depressed*

Would Lennon and Young have been given the time at Liverpool?
It's easy when you see them now and think 'man, we could have had him on the cheap' but Lennon's final ball was VERY erratic for his first couple of seasons at Spurs. It has only been in the last 12/18 months he has really improved. Also, he has played a lot of games, and full games, for Spurs. Could he have improved to his currect level living on the gametime Babel gets? We do not have a good track record of buying young talent and helping it mature.

Okay, current bargains that haven't already been mentioned:

Evra - 5M - We were linked with him at the time. I was excited. Then Utd signed him. I was very disappointed. Turned out to be a fantastic buy for that price.

Hangeland - I don't know how much he costs but he's been very solid for them and if he moves on, they'll surely make a tasty profit.

Kompany - Not so much a bargain as good value for money. Good squad player that I wouldn't mind if we had.

KHL tipped Hangeland here as Sami's successor a long time ago. Fair play.

How much did Kompany cost in the end? When he was 18 every major club was having a look at him? City deployed him in midfield but he is a CB so it will be interesting to see if he gets play there after the arrival of Toure and Lescott.

I don't think he will. He's playing there right now as cover but he'll probably be on the bench when everyone is back and fit. I think he cost 6-7M. Getting Given for 6M was a bit of a bargain as well all things considered.

Wenger is the king of the bargain hunters.

So many superb players he bought at a pittance and sold for millions later on.

Cheers mate. And fair play to you for mentioning it.

*hugs ILD*

NB If I remember coerrectly I didn't exactly dare to tip him as Big Sami's successor I reckon. That would've been rather 'suicidal' on these boards... especially as he played in the Danish League before joining Fulham. Someone would've accused me of having sex with bacon.
