We're starting to believe. . .

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Suarez arsenal factor. It'd be nice to give the a spanking for their 1 penny bid this summer. And I wonder how Suarez will handle it all. Shows how fast things change

Arsenal are beatable especially if Flamini is out injured, they will also be without Arteta who got sent off.

If Coutinho is back, a forward trio of Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho will score, how many remains to be seen the other issue is that we haven't kept a clean sheet for ages.

Ok coutinho is back in training and will be fit for the next game. Question is who do we drop? If we stay in our current system then the player to be dropped would be hendo you would think. But I think that would be a huge mistake because it was his energy in the middle that helped us for the first time this season control the midfield. Moses is a better attacking player, but hendo offered us more defensive stability that coutinho wouldn’t offer, and against Arsenal we will definitely need that defensive stability. Maybe coutinho will start on the bench as he’s been off for awhile and if things go wrong be brought on to add more attacking flair to our game. Or the only other option to fit hendo AND coutinho would be to go four at the back, so dropping one of the CB’s. But with them looking solid right now will Rodgers want to do that. Personally I think 3 at the back would get ripped apart against Arsenal and would definitely feel more comfortable with 4 at the back.

We always do this to ourselves, don't we ?

Win a few, and suddenly we're title contenders again ? Optimism is great but come on, there's still another 2/3 of a whopping season to go, for crying out loud ! Stop jinxing !

I would approach the Arse game with careful optimism and silent confidence. Yeah, that's how I'd roll.

In fact, I'd adopt Rafa's famous mantra - 'One game at a time'. Keep feet on the ground, blah blah blah.

Fixed.

MBBR, I hope you get rogered with a hot poker. I prefer blind optimism.

Don't mean to spoil the party but no one game is as important as some of us are making out IMO. If we beat them, it won't make us a shoo-in for the title; if we lose, we're still well up there.

I remember how many people were saying if we beat Utd at OT we'd win the league. We won 4-1 and that was in march but it didn't affect the outcome

Of course you're right JJ. But I think it shows that we are:
A) motivated enough to beat the mediocre teams and
B) good enough to beat the best teams.
We can do it if we beat Arsenal. At least it shows that we have all the tools to do it.

To me it's a matter of maintaining momentum. We don't have any midweek games to pick ourselves up immediately after a loss, so I hope we beat the Arse to keep on rolling.

I think it's vitally important. We're not a team that's always in the mix every season, and we're not good enough to be making up big gaps between us and the top and recovering from it.
Arsenal will be 5 points ahead of us should we lose, or we can get back to the top again by beating them. It's a massive game JJ, so get that b&w TV out of your closet and warm that baby up.

1. It's a top of table clash (1st vs. 3rd, or rather, joint 2nd)
2. It's against a team also challenging for (at least) CL qualification
3. The league is tight at the top, we're separated from 7th by 4 points. That could become 1 if we lose and other results go against us. On the contary, Everton face Tottenham at home earlier the same day. A good result can build a bit of lead against one of these teams (contenders/pretenders for CL qualification).
4. Arsenal's fixures list read: Liverpool (H), Dortmund (A), Man Utd (A), Southampton (H). We could potentially kick start a poor run of form for them.
5. In the space of slightly over a month, we face Everton, Tottenham, Man City and Chelsea between 23 Nov to 29 Dec. There's 8 games in 36 days. With a week to prepare for this match (and almost full squad available - with exception of Aspas and probably Enrique), a poor result and performance is unlikely to inspire much confidence for the challenging tasks ahead.

Early days into the season and the one game a time mantra is true but the implications of this clash are huge and it's a 6-pointer, no?

Amazing, that out of those 5 games, it's probably Arsenal and Everton I'm concerned about facing the most.

I am not starting to believe, I am thinking that if we win out next game then we will have a shout but that is happening after every game.

It is way to early, our lack of real depth will be the one thing that could hamper our charge this season, although the flip side is we are only really playing the PL so it may not matter.

I think we will be well beaten by Arsenal. We always struggle there and this season we have had a tendency to sit back and let teams have a go at us - they will punish us.

Of course when sufficiently motivated the team has often been able to raise their game so let's hope this is one of those occasions and they treat it as a cup final. We could win if they play with that mentality.

Is that what they call "having a bet each way", Keni?

We don't have to win, but CANNOT lose this game. This is where our good karma we've been building up lately, with the unlucky draw vs Newcastle and the dodgy penalty denying us a clean sheet yesterday, should help us.

Flamini and Arteta are out.
