Weekend’s other games 9-11 February

City’s set of fixtures are comparable to ours. Unsurprising with 12 to go. We both have to face Spurs and Man U. We also have to play the 6 worst teams in the league with City only playing 3 of them. Add to that they will have a huge pile up of fixtures which will be a massive strain on any squad even their squad. They dropped points over the Christmas congestion.

I've had a sinking feeling since the City game that we are now super reliant on 'holding our nerve' for 3-4 games and also hope that City do the opposite in that time. Would be awesome if it happened. I think that if City slip next, we walk away from them. If we slip next, City go on from here to win it.

That's how I see it too. Next couple matches are critical.

Wasn't it ever. I wasn't there but I watched it unfold live on TV. We'd made up something like NINETEEN points to take the lead in the title race too. Devastating.

Yeah but apparently we want City to play shit teams. Or something.

I want City to play a lot of games. Pick up a few draws or defeats along the way. Then lose in the Semi Finals of the cups.

And the bad aids. Always the bad aids.

Guardiola's head to explode would be a nice bonus.

It's the worst possible time to be playing Utd.

Solskjaer will have them fired up - he'll be desperate to knock us out of the race.

We'll have to be at our absolute best and clinical in front of goal.

City made a huge statement against Chelsea. We need to do likewise against Utd (even bigger test).

I fully expect us to get beat.
They will come at us, which will require the defense to be up to snuff. But it also means exposing their backs to our attack without 2 banks of 4 sat in all game.

I'll take that.

Which TV?
*sideye*

😀 I was at my sister's (she's a Red too, guided by me). I don't actually use Old Faithful for league games - its record on those is patchy and its speciality is Cup games, esp.finals. Athens was the only one I've watched on it that we've ever lost, and we should have won that one too.

WHY DIDNT YOU WATCH KIEV ON IT!?

Invited round to friends. Perhaps I should have tried to make excuses, but it wouldn't really have been possible as they knew exactly what I'd be doing that night.

Besides, even Old Faithful can't legislate for dreadful mistakes. Taking Masher off in Athens and thereby setting Kaka free was Rafa's biggest ever blooper IMO.

Bring it with you the next time you're invited to watch a final in someone's place.

Who would you say is favourite? Logic would suggest City. Anything else is heart overruling head.
Logic, based on a record of 20-5-1 vs City's 21-2-4, and our remaining games, also suggests we'll do it. Not that football ever adheres to logic or sometimes even form.

I won't be doing "I told you so" posts, I'm not Modo. Obviously we all want to win it. Part of it is probably not wanting to get my hopes up and be swept up by the positivity. I did it when Gerrard slipped. I did it last year in the CL. It's not worth it. It's well better preparing yourself for the worst and being pleasantly surprised when something good happens. It doesn't diminish the joy, while also softening the potential blow.

Ignore the text.

Personally I prefer the first graph to the second as far as my emotions/hopes over the season are concerned 😀

I kinda expect them to attempt to revert to the Maureen template for this game, though it will be difficult to do so after the taste of footballing freedom. Who knows, maybe Phelan will decide to take it to us? The Baby-Smeagol will do as he's fucking telt, evidently. Watching the Fulham game when he and Phelan were chatting it was clear that the no. 1 was doing the listening and the number 2 was doing the bossing.
After all Solskjaer's comments re. 'returning to their roots' or whatever and the crowd's expectations I think that's the last thing he'll do TBH. I can see Klopp doing it though, and relying on VvD & Becker in defence and Mo & Mane scoring on the break.

I love that we are in the race still but we can't be considered most likely to win it. .......
Rurik (whoever) posted this and I was surprised to see that, by the stats/forecasts we are still edging it. I guess that is what happens when our last two remaining major tests are away at United (City have to go there too) and at Everton, also with the bottom 6 teams to play and home games vs. Spurs and Arsenal. I feel sure it's going down to the last game.

I think Klopp might make it mental.

The 4-3-3, a midfield trio told to bomb forwards constantly & the full backs on the halfway line. Pressing the line just past their penalty area & playing at a hundred miles an hour.

BTW I need to qualify that @Halmeister's posts on footy are in the select bucket of those I will take time to read (when he writes a detailed post) given his experience in the game. Just still trying to recruit him to Oncy's DA!
