Watford v Liverpool match thread

I've been right with him until now, based on how charismatic he is... but the fact is his record is worse than Rodgers. Yeah, he hasn't got Suarez, but he does have over a hundred million quid to spend and somehow hasn't managed to. Frustrating.

I didn't think it would be possible for a manager to be as clueless defensively as Rodgers was but if anything Klopp is even worse. The fact that he doesn't even seem to recognise it's a problem does not bode well for the season ahead.

Rodgers would never have got 4th with that squad last season. There is absolutely no comparison. Klopp may not be a world beater (time will tell that) but he's a few leagues above Rodgers.
Klopp is a world beater-- try winning the Bundesliga while perennially losing your best players to the dominant team in that league. He'll get it right sooner rather than later but I'm worrying that he's not recognising or slow to admit some players' fundamental and, seemingly, irredeemable flaws.

I'm worried that he's been in football all his life and thinks disturbing a back four in injury time when there's one goal in it is a good idea. What the fuck could possibly enter your head? TAA had been ace all half. As soon as the board went up I shit my pants. It's schoolboy shit and it cost us two points. Pathetic.

It's a bad first day. That has a big impact, childish though it is. If we'd played a big club first and won, then tripped up like we did at Burnley last season, and also not had the Coutinho farce, the reaction would probably have been less shrill, less emotional, less personal and generally more like fans rather than world class but inexplicably unemployed managers. The best way to deal with that game is to go away and do something grown up, block out football coverage for a couple of days and regain a bit of sanity. That's what I'll do anyway.
Youre probably right and all that Macca but we played our last game 3 months ago.
A quarter of a year.
Hes had 3 transfer windows now. And FIRST day of the season, after all the training, all the prep, all the analysis. Three fucking spawny goals to a fucking spawny bottom of the table side AGAIN.

Its groundhog season. We HAVE NOT done what every single (and it is literally EVERY single) Liverpool fan KNEW we needed to do and thats improve
CB
LB
DM
And if the money was left over
GK
CF

Not ONE of those fundamental issues dealt with, in three months (not that they havnt been issues for years of course.

Its a fucking dereliction of duty in my book.
That said, that post match sounded like he was finally starting to blame the lizards, so thats at least something.

We have utterly and I mean UTTERLY fucked this pre-season.
We are the same fucking rag tag bunch of bang average players hoping beyond hope that a Mane or a Coutinho can dig our arse out of the fire week in week out.

Im so so so fucking pissed off.

Oh wait, I just remembered it doesnt matter what happens before September 1st, those results dont count. Because some mong on here said so.

Thats handy because we are fucking shit.
I wish I had your anger. I'm just left with apathy.

I'll reserve judgment over whether he's a world beater. But I do know that he ain't a cunt and he's a better manager than Rodgers.

I'm reading some absolute pony on here.

First game of the season bro. Disappointed after today, but it's early doors. What we do in the window is more important to me right now.

And the fans. Should not forget them ... hardly ever a factor any more. And, judging from this thread, a little bit sad. We are extremely lucky to have Klopp. As fans, I don't think we deserve him.
Ok. I feel really lucky.

fuck coutinho the fucking cunt.
we should have won comfortably - salah missed some easy ones, and Gini should have finished it.

How was that goal allowed?
Fuck coutinho - horrible cunt of a twat.

To be fair, with your tendency to flip-flop, he could be your favourite person in the world within about 3 weeks. Just hang in there fella.
I dont think ive ever really warmed to him. Neither did I Rafa, Dalglish, Roy or most of our managers. I did Rodgers for sure, but in the main part I just see them as a function, and the less I hear from them the better.
Same with players. Doyourjob

I'd rather take longer to win with an identity than buy one. Whether that's with Klopp or not I dunno but there's few iterations I can imagine going better.

Infuriating regardless

Just a couple of thoughts on a couple of the players' performances :

Ming - 4 - throughout the match he made minor error after error, the worse being the missed punch and total fuckup with Lovren. I'd have Ward in goal, he radiates confidence and is also a great shot stopper, his distribution can't be worse than Ming's and seems to control his area better. I'd love to know the criteria on which Ming is selected ahead of the other two.

AA - 8 - fucking ace everywhere all day. MOTM. Should be our starting RB even when Clyne is fit. It's great to watch him assess situations and make the correct decisions time after time, as well as his aggressive attacking play which pins defenders back and his pace which deters attackers from trying to beat him down the wing.

Mane - 5 - sorry but don't get the love for his performance yesterday. Bar the wonderful goal (which gains him a point) he lacked sharpness and control and gave the ball away a hundred times. Superb goal aside it was a poor performance.

Salah - 7 - terrified them. I have deducted a point for the missed chances. The goal he scored was typical Salah and the only other person who could have scored that, from his position, would have been Mane. This was noted about Salah from the onset, the fact he loves to get himself into that 6 yd box which few of our players ever seem to do (Ings an exception).

Moreno - 5 - if he dives in and goes to ground we always seem to concede, which duly happened.

Firmino - 7 - unspectacular first half, as per the rest of the team, but was the fulcrum for virtually all of our attacking play, which was excellent, in the second. Perfectly taken penalty.

Wijnaldum - 4 - some very steady but unspectacular CM play was degraded by his miss at one end and complete disaster of defensive duties at the other.

5s and 6s for the others.

Klopp - 3 - I agree with whoever it was who said that removing Salah (who looked like he could create/score a goal almost every attack) and AA (not going over this again) cost us the match. Not only of course (as we missed too many great chances) but at that stage of the game, it did.

Have to say I agree with this but usually find that few do, I can never understand how people "personalise" managers and players, I used to post on another site and happened to mention that I couldn't particularly warm to Klopp and that it was irrelevant so long as he brought success, suddenly my credentials as a "fan" were brought into question. Glad to see it seems a bit more grown up on here.

You're not a real fan then 😉

But, aren't you 'personalising' the manager also by thinking he's a cunt, or whatever dislike it is you feel towards him? If you've made a judgment of his character - whatever that judgment is - you've personalised it.

He didn't say he disliked him, he said he's never warmed to him. I don't see how that equates to disliking him or thinking he's a cunt. I guess it's fairly common to feel indifferent about players and managers. Especially these days when there's practically zero loyalty left in the game.
