Watford v Liverpool match thread

I'd take last season's results, if I'm honest. 4th would mean a pretty good season.

We need to improve the midfield and defence. If we don't, we can expect what's coming and I think that will be an underwhelming season.
4th will be much more difficult given European commitments.

Unless of course Hoffenheim knock us out.

Definitely, changed the momentum of the game.
If he makes no subs and they score, people will say it's Klopp fault because it was clear the players were tiring.

When he does makes subs and we concede, people will blame the subs.

At the end of the day, I don't blame the decision to make subs. They are there for a reason. I blame the players on the field who weren't able to manage the game. Perhaps Klopp doesn't work on enough on this aspect in training because we shouldn't be dropping leads like this against Watford.

Like you, I like Origi but tonight really sums him up. First game of the season, a real chance to impact the game, but despite the manager showing faith in him after a poor preseason, he hides and utterly fails to impose himself in any way. In a way, he reminds me of Heskey in his last couple of seasons, lacking in confidence, and unwilling to take any kind of responsibility in leading the attack.

He'd been going really well when that animal Funes Mori crocked him, so I'm clinging to the hope that there's still a player in there somewhere, but I'm doing so by my fingertips now.

I like him. But I don't think we can afford him the time to sort out his mentality.

Most likely to gain points from a losing position.

Most likely to lose points from a winning position.

That's still going to be us, isn't it?

The errors leading to all 3 goals were completely avoidable. Lovren is shite and Moreno returned to form. Wijnaldum played as you'd expect from him in an away games.

I miss those days when Kay Age El and the rest of the forum used to argue about Dagger and Skrtel, at least they were competing for one half of the CB pairing and it meant the other was sorted.

Our current pair is horrendous.

We'd sign Van Dijk and still be woeful defensively. There's something inherently wrong with the mentality at this club.

Ratings.

Mignolet 5 - I can't really fault him for the goals, but what an erratic performance.

TAA 7 - Unfortunately partly at fault for one of the goals. Fantastic second half with great crosses and set pieces, deserved an assist.

Matip 6 - Average. Nice headed clearances but the defence was all over the place and he's supposed to be the one organising it.

Lovren 6 - Average.

Moreno 5 - Stupid mistakes, poor positioning. Did well going forward at times. The only positive.

Henderson - I'm not gonna rate him. You do it.

Can 7 - Great assist. Worked hard. Can improve defensively but all in all a good performance.

Wijnaldum 5 - Piss poor. Pretty much anonymous, except when he cost us the game and missed clear chances.

Mané 7 - Great goal an attacking threat throughout.

Salah 7 - 2nd half performance redeemed him. Should have had the winning goal and probably another.

Firmino 8 - MOM one goal one assist. Ran the entire game and was our most consistent player.

Hilarious!

5 for 6 and 6 for Moreno, Lovren and Matip?

Please do us all a favour and bang your fucking stupid head on a garbage bin!

Those 3 of them deserved a 3 max. Flopp's a mess.

I just want to sit Klopp in a chair and ask him why he took TAA off then.

I'll let him answer. Then I'll pull the lever and watch his eyeballs boil.
My thoughts exactly. It was an utterly pointless sub that one. I just knew it was a bad fucking idea. What was Klopp thinking. Also we really needed that 4th goal.

Looking at one game and one moment sure, but I've watched that game dozens of times under klopp, with all sorts of players out there. We aren't comfortable defending. So sure, dissect this instance, but what's the point?

Coz we'd have won

I wouldn't blame the subs. If we'd have taken the chances we'd had, we should have had 6 or 7 goals.
