Salah is going live on Facebook in a few minutes to explain to his fans the issues with the Egyptian FA.

Here's some background:
Unfortunately for Salah and his international teammates, Egypt’s world cup didn’t go to plan. They finished their group with 0 points, with two narrow defeats being the only things they can take home from Russia. Mo Salah did manage to score two goals in two matches, despite being only partially fit, but Egypt’s other big names didn’t step up, causing them to be frustratingly difficult to watch at times.
The world cup has been one to forget for Salah for reasons other than football too though as well. Underlying cracks, between him and the Egyptian FA, have emerged.
The Egyptian FA is heavily politicized and is often controlled by the government. This can lead to the use of players as a tool for their own means. This has been seen before when the much-loved Mohamed Aboutrika. Following a series of incidents, where Aboutrika wasn’t exactly complimentary about the establishment, including instances where he supported ultras groups and the ousting of the old Egyptian government, he had accounts frozen. Then on 17th January 2017, Egypt added him to a terror list for alleged ties to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. This was almost certainly part of a smear campaign. Similar appears to be happening to our Mo.

For Salah, his problems started when President Sisi introduced a national ‘Money Box’ scheme in order to help pay off the country’s Nations Dept. The idea was that citizens donated to this pot. as an idol, Salah was asked to be the figurehead of the campaign. He refused, knowing that most of the money would properly end up in wealthy fat cats’ pockets. Subsequently, he was threatened with three years of military service. This forced Salah to donate more than one million Egyptian pounds.
Another issue arose more recently, in which the Egyptian FA’s main sponsor, ‘We’, used Salah’s image on the side of a plane. The problem was that Vodafone were believed to own Salah’s rights. Eventually, an unknown compromised was agreed between all parties, however, Sisi’s name comes up again. ‘We’ (or ‘Telecom Egypt’)is a telecom company owned by Egypt’s military, established by Sisi. It’s believed that the government-linked ‘We’ wanted Vodafone to fine Salah. In the process, Vodafone tried to fine ‘We’ as well, however, they refused to pay. This is another example of someone trying to influence Salah’s squeaky-clean image.

The most recent incident occurred when Salah was pictured with the notorious head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov. Kadyrov has long been accused of abusing human rights. In 2017, the leader was quoted saying ‘’We don’t have any gays’’ and “Take them far from us so we don’t have them at home. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them.” The Egyptian FA set these photos up. The world seeing Salah with a homophobic devil was sure to harm his image and reputation.
Further proof of the Egyptian FA’s involvement in the photos and meetings is that despite the whole team being present, only pictures of Salah and Kadyrov were posted to the Egyptian FA’s social media pages.
Even worse for Salah, Kadyrov made Salah an honorary citizen of Chechnya.

Salah just had to stand by and let his image begin to be tarnished, despite his devotion to the Egyptian people and his incredible contribution to football in the country. Salah cannot change the supposed propaganda against him easily, as the government in Egypt control just about everything, including the media.
There are now reports that Salah may quit international football in response to his mistreatment. It would be heartbreak for the Egypt national team fans, however, it may be the right decision. It is for him to make.

That's sad. Must have taken a lot of the pride and enjoyment out of playing for his country.

I went to Mo's facebook page to hear what he had to say but (unsurprisingly) he was speaking in Arabic, so I'll check this guy out..

Mohamed Salah has sought to explain his point of view as the situation with the Egyptian FA becomes more fraught ahead of next month’s international break.

Speaking in a video posted on his Facebook page on Monday evening, Salah detailed his communications with the Egyptian FA and the security requests he has made.“We aren’t asking for anything special,” said Salah. “Just the right to sit at the hotel at peace, without random people annoying us until 4am.”
Salah, via a letter from his agent, reportedly made a list of non-negotiable demands, which included bodyguards outside his room.
“I’m just asking to be comfortable in my room,” he explained. “No people knocking all the time, no people entering my room all the time.”
Salah was pictured with controversial Chechnyan Ramzan Kadyrov while on international duty at the World Cup in Russia.
The 26-year-old was awarded honorary citizenship at a banquet dinner where he was seated next to the man who has been accused of human rights abuses, including torture and the killing of political opponents.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas, has said “enough is enough,” and there is speculation that Salah could withdraw from next month’s AFCON qualifying fixture against Niger – or even retire from international duty entirely.
According to an Egyptian sports journalist, the Egyptian FA have said that Liverpool asked for “details” regarding Salah during the international break and how he will travel to Niger for the game.
It’s said that Salah’s demands, which included no visits from VIP members or events with national team sponsors, will be rejected by the Egyptian authorities.
If indeed those demands for better security are rejected, Salah’s involvement for Egypt in September looks unlikely.

His body language has looked a bit off so far this season, he seems like the kind of guy who really enjoys representing his country so whatever the outcome is I hope its resolved quickly and doesnt become a cloud hanging over him for the season

Cant help but feel this is the sort of episode that a manager like Ferguson would turn to his advantage.

Salah’s video has provoked a couple of shocking reactions from members of Egypt’s FA.
The most outrageous reply came from Khaled Lateif, who is a board member of the Egypt Football Association. He threatened the Liverpool star’s mum on Twitter:
I’d like to remind @MoSalah that your mother is still in Egypt.
You are abroad and can do as you wish. Those who understand, understand.

Wow, that doesn't sound at all like a harmless joke – unless I really don't understand Egyptian humour.

It's not a harmless joke at all. They're fucking cunts.

They apparently made similar threats to ensure he made a hefty donation to their moneybox scam thing which kicked all this off when he refused to be the face of asking for public donations for the same scheme.

He should move his family to England & tell them to fuck right off.

Them having him take all those photos with that fucking warlord & then publicise them was the final straw it seems. They're being right fucking cunts & are trying to drag every penny out of him they can.

Thread should be changed to Trouble in Egypt.

The Egyptian authority don't deserve Salah.
The guy is so likeable you can tell it would have been a huge issue for him to respond like this.
Threatening his family is a complete dick move from the Egyptian fa

Yes, he should get his family out of there, pronto.

HA HA - Good idea.

He's an EASY way for them to make a shit load of money though ... so he's their pawn until he fucks them off. I hope his family isn't hurt - it's fucking football.

Well it ain't football, it's money and fricking loads of it.
I'm sure there was a pic of Egypt recently and Salah was advertising everything.

They'd be completely stupid to not give into his pretty simple demands but it'll probably be a case of the goose that laid the golden egg.
Cept obv I hope they don't actually kill him

I think this is the unfortunate price of stardom for people from 3rd world countries – lots of freeloaders, from the government and organized crime to distant relatives, come out from every corner, trying to use whatever points of leverage they could find to extract some money. Even the likes of Messi had to deal with this shit. I think Salah and his family will be OK and the'll find some kind of compromise as these threats are so far of "business" rather than political or personal nature, but for LFC's sake let's hope this doesn't become a major distraction for the player. Last things he should be thinking about 3 days before the game is image rights and threats to his mother.

By the way, here is a recent example of a star athlete being hounded for purely political purposes. That's much more serious and dangerous.

I cant see how he ever plays for them again after this, they are effectively saying that his family in Egypt are hostages.

Yah but Kanter was because his father was 'considered' a political rival to Erodgan, and we know how he deals with the opposition.
This isn't about 'interfering' (I don't know if Kanter's father did or didn't) with the govt -

I think you got this backwards – his father was arrested in Turkey because of his son's criticism of Erdogan on Twitter and the son's allegiance to Gulen, not because the father (a university professor) did anything, as far as I know. The really insidious part was that the father was forced to publicly disown his son to try to stay in government's good graces – and they still jailed him as a "terrorist." BTW, this is another bit of context to show how Ozil is really full of shit decrying "racism" in German FA, while supporting Erdogan who does shit like this to ethnically Turkish athletes (like Ozil, Kanter wasn't even born in Turkey).
