Trent, Salah and VVD

said it ages ago, i don’t overly care what he does as long as it doesn’t derail this season. to that end i hope there’s no pre contract or any announcement of one and he continues to poker face things until the end of the season.

This. Just don't be a distraction by signing a precontract, put your head down and work hard in the back half of the season, and win the league...

... At that point I don't really care if he goes and I'll buy his taxi fare when he arrived in Madrid.

This narrative of “we should have sorted out Trent’s contract or sold him in the summer” does my head in.

Trent isn’t a passive part of this process - he can say no or yes to any deal for us or from any club we would have sold him to.

His contract should have been sewn up the summer before - but Julian Ward leaving and big Klopp’s mate logging on from his laptop in Ibiza for a few months scuppered that - that’s were FSG dropped the ball, but I guess they weren’t expecting Klopp to leave.

There no way Hughes first act on arrival was going to try and sell Trent against his will - that would have just made the furious ones even more furious.

It’s also entirely reasonable for a player of Trent’s ability and age, to be hesitant at committing the rest of his career with a new manager coming in - he was visibly devastated at Klopp leaving - you’d want to see what the new man is like first - that’s entirely reasonable.

I also have no problem with him trying to leverage “Mo level” wages out of us - he’s vice captain, one of the best in the world in his position, uniquely skilled in that position and in his prime years.

That’s all normal and sensible behaviour.

All we can do is offer the best deal we can within the framework we’re prepared to work with, then it’s up to him to - but don’t kid yourself we could have sold him in the summer or that he’s been sitting around with a pen in his hand just waiting on a contract offer from us.

I still think he’ll sign a new contract with us.
Anyone who runs a business would act instantly not to allow £200m worth of assets turning into 0. FSG should have acted sooner. As to Trent declining a sale, how many times has a player refused to move if a buying club offers what the player wants. He wasn't given a final offer or "Take it or we sell you" so we don't know that Trent would have said no. I imagine Madrid would have given at least £40m for him in his final year.

If Bradley is fit then play him.
That’s the point,His injury record is poor and when he starts playing well is injured. Seems pointless to stop playing our best RB out of spite if so especially since not even confirmed and he has yet sign a pre contract with anyone.

I was upset when I heard the news but knew the news could be bull too. I think having him here till the summer makes more sense. I am sure he would rather leave on a high.
I made this post in the summer, the club's relaxed approach has led to this impasse, they should have at the very least sorted Trent's contract or sold him in the summer. Hopefully Edwards sorts this mess out
Oh FFS. Again? We ALL know why it wasn't possible yet you're still banging this stupid drum.

I’d agree with you had we not had a run of games watching Trent trotting back like he’s doing a dressage event in between hitting the first man on corners.

If this is the effort he’s putting in now he would be less inclined to more in and risk his dream move.

i would dearly love bradley to walk into right back and make it his for the next decade but his injuries are making that look so unlikely. even lowering the timeframe to just this season i think we can’t afford to not have trent involved

the whole idea of bombing trent out of the side doesn’t warrant discussion unless he gets announced at real and/or starts playing like a fanny with one foot out the door

If like to think it's not a racial thing with Trent.

For me he's always been a great player for us, but defensive issues caused us unnecessary problems

The players hold all the cards. Klopp announcing when he did made it easier for him, but if he's leaving it won't be an overnight thing, it'll be part of a long term plan that the club had no say in.
It's pointless saying that to the tin foil hat brigade on here. They are beyond logic no matter how many times it's pointed out to them.
They don't want to believe it - they simply want someone to blame.

Everyone is kind of split on this, I do not know how to feel on Trent leaving, so waiting for you @Woland to decide for me on how to feel.

Unlike many on here , I have always seen Trent as a almost luxuary player with his passing range, but there is no hiding from the fact that most opposition ALWAYS target his side to initiate attacks, and on too many occasions they end up scoring. Also, Trents form since Covid season has been suspect there is no consistency in his defending, there really has not. I do not think he is worth anywhere near the wages being quoted to keep him.

Absolutely.

You have to think, this is not “just” about money - it’s not as if we’ll be offering him a pittance.

If it’s in any way football related, then he’s off his rocker wanting to leave us and go to Madrid at this moment in time - despite what his Bellend mate is telling him about life in Madrid.

The thing I don’t get, is the level of vitriolic abuse levelled at him - is there a sort of expectation, particularly from locals, that because he’s a local lad “living the dream” is he supposed to just be thankful and shut the fuck up.

Also…. and I’m posing this as a question, being devil’s advocate here… Is there an underlying racial thing at play here also?

I pose these questions, because from afar, it often feels like Trent gets a harder time from our fans than other local kids that have come through the ranks - I don’t quite get it.
It’s because his attitude and body language on the pitch has been shite for 3 years.

Nothing racial whatsoever.

No.

For me the problem is he is acting like an arrogant arsehole.

And I don't like arrogant arseholes.

That's basically all.

Based on this I'd happily see him fuck off.

We'll sign an apt replacement and be fine.

Maybe he shouldn’t have stopped to speak to the press coming out of a game a few weeks ago. Something he’s only done like 3 times.

Each game that £k goes up and probably deservedly so.

I still think we get it done.

Trent, is still going. That celebration mimicking Bellingham told us all we need to know. The picture on Insta was unnecessary and dividing.

Might be taking one for the team there, as our left side might actually be worse…
