[article]English heavyweights Liverpool FC have gazumped Bayer Leverkusen to acquire the signature of Ghanaian whizkid Abdul Fatawu Issahaku on a five-year deal.

The 17-year-old has been signed by Liverpool FC from Ghanaian second-tier club Steadfast FC on a five-year deal with a fee reported to be around £1.5 million.

Fatawu Issahaku courted interest from several clubs in Europe including Bayer Leverkusen, Ajax, Broussia Dortmund, Red Bull Salzburg among others after an explosive performance at the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations staged in Mauritania.

He previously featured for the Ghana U17 team before gaining promotion to the U20 side to make his bow during the U20 Africa Cup of Nations at age 16.

Fatawu Issahaku managed to score two goals and an assist in 6 matches during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations tourney held in Mauritania.

He was named the best player after the 2021 Africa U20 Cup of Nations tournament.

Following his blistering output, the teenager has been handed a debut call-up to the senior national team of Ghana by CK Akonnor for next month's international friendlies against Ivory Coast and Morocco.[/article]

Seems like s very good signing if true. Just based on the other teams interested that are exceptional at signing young talented gems.
Salzburg in particular has an amazing scouting departement.

Some Twitter Twatter that our top attacking target is Sancho.
And if that comes off we wont sign a midfielder.
If true, it might give fuel to the idea of switching to a 4-2-3-1 with Salah upfront.

I could live with that. Bobby and Mo for the striking position. Elliott and Sancho RWF and Mane and Jota for LWF.

A few stories from today...

From AS.. Barcelona still owe us €40m for Coutinho. But they don't want to pay. So are offering us Coutinho back for free if we write off the €40m owed.

Speaking of Barcelona, the Koeman situation at Barcelona means that the on/off Gini transfer is off for now.

Nat Baresi is wanted by both Newcastle and Burnley.

So we'd kinda be paying 40mil for Coutinho?

No thanks. We could buy Aouar for that price and his wages would be lesser also.

Coutinho back even at 40m is a good deal for me.

Yes.... bringing in another midfielder approaching their 30’s is exactly what we should do - that way we can add another one to the list of players with reducing value that will need replacing in the next few years.

Definitely don’t look for someone under the age of 27 with that £40 million.

Any more former players you’d like to re-sign?

Just get them to send Messi to us for 2 years and cover his wages.
It’d be fun.

That's almost certainly not true because we received all of our money by selling on the debt for a discount. If that's true - can't remember the source !

In the plus column though 40m isn't going to get us someone who can cure one of our ills, scoring from outside the box and converting more of our FKs ! Plus we know he suits our system - though his tracking back is a little remiss I'd not be so worried with VvD back.

I'd not be against resigning him but obviously if there's someone younger who can do the job that'd be preferable. That said if 40m is what's quoted it's more than likely it could be negotiated down to say to ballpark 30m?

I do love a technically adept player that can keep possession under pressure.

4 goals (0 assists)( 11games), 7 (6)(44), 7 (11)(47), 9 (10)(41) and 8 (4)(33) goals/assists over the past 5 seasons in a team doing well in Ligue 1 that isn't exactly prolific (substantially less than Coutinho on goals/assists per 90 mins but way better than any of our midfielders) though we should expect that to dip in the PL.

However he's young (22) and Klopp would improve him no doubt, but he'll be more expensive for sure, dealing with Aulas. Both players' contracts expire 2023. Looks like a player we could a lot with!

Lyon is in financial trouble. They had financial issues before the pandemic itself. They did not qualify for the CL this season and next season. They were planning to sell Aouar last summer but the CL semifinal run provided enough cash to avoid panic selling. They wanted 50-60 million euros last summer. This year, there are rumors that he is available for substantially less. He also apparently had a not-so-good year in terms of form. I haven't watched him play a lot other than the CL quarter-final against City last year. My guess is he would be cheaper than Coutinho both in transfer fees and wages.

@dmishra, I think first pointed him out on SCM. He might know more about him.

Fab list of individuals but I wouldn't position them like that as I'm not a fan of playing Mo through the middle. Put Jota there as Bobby's alternative when we need one, and let him and the others rotate the living feck out of the opposition.
