Transfer Rumours 21/22

If Real or Barca had some nous, they would try to get Conte.

If Conte has nous, he would avoid Madrid or Barca at this time. Overleveraged due to player salaries, not a lot of money for transfers. Fans expect a treble every season.

Not sure any of that is a deterrent. Barca and Real are still Barca and Real and the name alone is a major draw.

I think Allegri has already agreed to take over Juve. I don't think Spurs have the money either to improve their squad.
Which makes the rumour today that they are talking to Poch about a potential return very strange indeed. Let me think PSG or a Kane-less Spurs? Hahaha!

A few interesting comments from Gorst in the Echo (I like all these answers esp. re. Elliot and an 'Aging squad'). Note not from the club per se. just his opinions (based on?) :

Liverpool will assess Elliott this pre-season but they have been delighted with his progress at Blackburn and much like his first season at the club they will see him playing a role in the cups. I wouldn't rule out a PL loan entirely, but I imagine they want to retain him.

Is there a concern squad appears to be ageing?
PG:
Concern for who? Not sure if that thought process is prevalent inside the club but the move for Konate - who is 22 today - shows you that they are looking at players with plenty of years ahead of them. i expect that to be a key component for any incomings this summer. I think there's another 12 months before the club seriously get worried about the age of their key stars.

Are VvD and Salah interested in renewing at LFC, and will Liverpool be ready to offer improved terms to them as they are closing in on 30 years of age?
PG: Salah, I am almost certain, is angling for a new Liverpool contract. His assertions of his future 'being in the club's hands' in Dec/Jan were telling on the score. I have no reason to doubt that Van Dijk is anything other than happy at the club too. Liverpool will be relaxed on both scores as far as new contracts go.

Heart-breaking comments for some on SCM!
I don't see a scenario where Liverpool sign Kylian Mbappe. I know, sorry...I would be surprised if they aren't taking at least a passing interest in Bissouma. Reports on Monday suggested he's told Brighton he wants to leave and he's been excellent for them. Aouar is another with big potential but not someone I've seen seriously linked for some time.

No interest in Renato Sanches as far as I know. No idea if the Goncalves link is genuine. It's come from Record in Portugal but Liverpool's name is sometimes an easy one to include as far as speculative interest goes.

Adrian's contract is up this summer, but as we've seen this season, Caoimhin Kelleher might reasonably be above him now in the pecking order. So I don't expect another backup to arrive.

Matip will be staying put. I definitely agree that Wijnaldum needs replacing. He played 51 times last season, it would be incredible if that was just shunned, especially when Keita and Oxlade have had their injury problems and Milner is in the twilight of his career.

I think Liverpool will look to target a more traditional centre-forward this summer as opposed to a versatile one who can play across all areas of the front. It's been a long time since Roberto Firmino has had serious competition for a place as a No.9 and we've seen that in his performances at times.

True.
Spurs is another place you wouldn't want to go.

[article]Italian website CalcioMercato claim Liverpool are in talks with the agents of AC Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkey international is available on a free transfer , with his Milan contract expiring at the end of June.

Calhanoglu, 27, has been in excellent form for Milan this season. Under Stefano Pioli, the Turkish playmaker has reignited his earlier form and had a hand in 21 goals during 2020-21. Scoring nine times, the ex-Leverkusen star has also clocked up 12 assists.

The stats continue to shine bright on Calhanoglu. Clocking up 172 games since joining in 2017, he has been involved in 80 goals in that time. With Gini Wijnaldum about to leave, Liverpool want to bring in Calhanoglu as his replacement.

The report states that Juventus also want him, while Liverpool have spoken to Calhanoglu’s agents. Though a formal offer is yet to be made, the German-born number 10 will Milan and Liverpool are keen. Time will tell if they can tempt him with a move to England.[/article]

Latest Konate article from the Athletic is in the sticky thread. Also gives an insight into summer transfer plans.

So the latest from Pearce is:

- Konate deal done. Others under consideration were Pau Torres and Caleta-Car, but Konate was viewed as the best suited. Medical team has cleared injury red flags.

- Phillips, Davies and Williams should all be part of pre-season.

- Further signings will require sales.

- Grujic and Wilson valued at 15 million each. Origi valued at 20 million. Shaqiri also expected to leave. Minamino's future also uncertain.

- Karius, Ojo, Awoniyi, Woodburn and Liam Millar also likely to be sold. Awoniyi attracting interest. Valued at 8 million.

- Kelleher is no. 2 and will be given a new contract. Adrian has been offered a new deal too, but has offers from Spain as well.

- Klopp content with Tsimikas and Neco as the fullback backups.

- Bissouma not a target. Not certain that we will sign a Wijnaldum replacement. Klopp may be content letting Jones take on the responsibility. Ox and Keita are both likely to stay.

- New attacker is on the cards if Origi and Shaq are sold. No clues as to the target here though.

- Elliott will be part of pre-season. Decision on whether to keep him or loan him out again yet to be taken.

- A couple of signings more at the best. Don't expect more.

Great.

Let's hope a lot of that is a bit of shite to keep prices down, but if true it doesn't bode well.

It will be the former. I think FSG also knows that we need at least 2-3 more signings and certainly a striker.

FSG will have learnt from January.
I expect a midfielder and a versatile striker.

Ox and Keita staying depends totally on offers coming in.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is a name that's doing the rounds..

Ghanaian - 17 years old - c.£2m wanted from his current club.

Leverkusen have pulled out the race.

Leverkusen pulled out because his agent has been hawking him out saying we are interested and a few other clubs. This could be a case of just using our name to get more £££££££

Sell Shaq, Wilson, Origi, Ayonyi, Minamino, Kieta & Gruijic.

Sign Camavinga, Patson Daka and Bissouma.

Job done.

It will be a mistake not to sign another defensive mid. We have seen how teams cut us up in the middle when Fab was playing at the back.

I think we have to assume that with more than a full complement of CBs it is highly unlikely (even more unlikely than last season !) that he'll be needed in the back 4 and that with Hendo and Thiago we have enough cover for emergencies. For the record I'd like to see us sign Bissouma though.

Only concern with Bissouma is he'll be away for AFCON too.

Meanwhile, reports linking us to Lille's Jonathan Ikone.

I think we need another mid. Wijnaldum was a major asset in that he was always available and put in a huge shift.

Of our present mids, Fabinho, Milner and Jones are the only ones who don't have an injury history.

Thiago, Henderson, Keita and Ox all have had a very injury prone career, and we should plan accordingly. The last thing we need is a fresh injury crisis, this time in midfield.
