Transfer Rumours 21/22

Don't think KDB is any more consistent than Salah tbh, he has periods where he's not at his usual level as well.

Both are 2 of the very best in the league and have been for years, he's deserving of the contract.
People also tend to overlook the fact that KdB is injured almost as much as Keita.

... But during these last years there have been opportunities for us to spend on an extra midfielder, defender or attacker that would have seen us win more trophies.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly what United were thinking when they signed Veron, Bebe, Sanchez, Forlan or Kleberson, Chelsea when they signed Shevchenko, Sutton or Mutu, when Newcastle signed Owen, City signed Jo, Boateng, Robinho or Mangala ... and we have had a whole basket of failures, probably more than anyone else !

It's never ... just one more would have made the difference. It's always 'the right one' (not suggesting there's only 'one').

For £16m he's a warm body and that's what we need. Snip at that price (if true - I saw £5m just a day or so ago, can't believe they've more than halved it).
No way are they selling at that price, that is a load horse-shit. Also this guy is a flabby melt - I know the stats are up there, but he does go missing in games. Just don't want him. As far as I can see, he should be able to make a difference to his current teams woes, but clearly cannot or will not. We don't need people like him in our team.

oops finger slip : £35m

Yes and yes. But not my (obscure it seems!) point. It was more about the fact Salah is hardly ever injured.
Agreed. I’ve got a nasty habit of jumping into an exchange without first seeing context. The last three weeks have made me lose my head and it’s got worse.

Yeah, but sign on fees, agent fees, wages, bonuses, club investments apply to other clubs also, Momo.

By the way, the more rational posters here are not screaming for us to buy, buy, buy. Their view is to get a midfielder in now and be ok with one less player purchase next summer.

Yes, we are an incredibly planned organization with clear views on how to proceed. We do spend a lot of money. And we only need to spend what we generate. But at some crisis points, you do need to dip into an extra pot. This is one such occasion.

Maybe we are not spending because the right player is not available. But sometimes perfection can be the enemy. It worked out when we waited for VVD and Allison. But it did not with Keita.

Folks point to Konate as an example of our strategy but forget that on January 30th, we panicked and had a bid for Caleta Cjar (sp?). He was waiting at the airport in Marseille for clearance to travel to LFC which did not happen because Marseille could not find a replacement. If that transfer had happened, we would not have bought Konate. So we did not exactly stick to our guns and wait for the perfect player.

We are going to lose three midfielders next summer - Milner, Ox, Keita. At least I hope we are going to lose Keita. If Klopp campaigns for a new contract for Keita and he signs it, we deserve everything we are going to get. I am assuming we will buy at least two. Bring one of those purchases forward.

We are top, or near the top of player and staff wages paid, agent fees, bonuses and the investment into Kirkby plus 2 Anfield extensions. These don’t apply to every other club.

I agree we are a well planned club and had we got rid of Ox and/or Keita we would’ve signed someone. However, that hasn’t planned out. What else will be part of the plan is integrating Elliott, Carvalho and others from within our ranks.

What I wouldn’t want is to do is bring in anyone that ends up being incompatible with us and then stays for five years with everyone slagging him off.

Add to that, we are constantly peddled that it takes time to learn a Klopp system. So we wouldn’t get a quick fix with it.

Why the sudden focus on Salah’s new wages in this place anyway 3 games in?
It’s financially a decent move for club too, we have protected his resale value.

Predictable but he isn’t the reason we have 2pts from 3 games and not made any midfield signings. Seriously come on now…

Not a sudden focus. But he and his agent spent quite a bit of time peddling news items that he deserved to be paid as much as top players in the world. But he really has not delivered on that since AFCON. If we had won the first three games, we wouldn't have cared that much about his salary. When we have a crisis, we do tend to analyze every issue.

imo Salah will perk up when Nunez returns which may well paper over some of the cracks in midfield and return a bit of the confidence

Yeah but every big club had similar issues.
City had with Sterling and delt with it in diff way.
Salah has got 2 this season, I think right now I would look elsewhere we are where we are.

Just all predictable on scape goating. We needed a new midfielder start of last season before Salah’s contract talks even got going is my point and now probably need 2.

This is a good point about needing multiple midfielders.

This season we’re starting with 2 noobs in the front 3 which is going to take a while to gel (would have been even worse if we bought Diaz in the summer as intended)

Are we planning on doing the same next season with the midfield? Because again it’ll take a while to come together. Perhaps it’ll be Thiago 32 Fabs nearly 30 and Bellingham 20, is that ok?

No doubt about that. But I don't think it is scapegoating when we point out that Salah has not been living up to his billing since AFCON. I am not saying he is the reason we are in the slump. But when you talk the talk about paying me like the best player in the world, you better walk the walk. Which he has not quite done.

Pre Afcon Salah would have chewed up and destroyed the United left back and got him substituted within 60 minutes.

Also, want to point out that the bar with which we evaluate Salah is higher than the bar for Diaz or Elliott. Salah is compared with the legends - Dalglish, Barnes, and Gerrard because he has earned the right to be compared with them through his performance.

I think he played what 73 games last season?
The Afcon and Quiroz took a lot out of him.
I won’t try and justify his wages again but not sure club had much choice not to extend, the fear is we turn on him like Auba but hopefully not.
Not sure he will ever go back 2021 first half Salah but let’s see…

Are you using other clubs failures in the transfer market as an example to why we shouldnt have bought a player when we’ve had a gaping hole in our squad? Some of them from 15 years ago.

Don't worry.. we are monitoring de Jong.

Is he any good ? - I have a new theory - the chances of us signing him will increase if the following is true:

1) Does he get injured every 3 games ? - if so Klopp will love him
2) Is he a boring safe midfielder ? - if so Klopp will love him

If he has skill and is available for selection all the time - then there is little chance of us signing him.

I thought you had more intelligence than that - but if that's what you see. *shrugs*

Couldn't be arsed. I'm spending far more time on researching a new tent and my future trips.
It was obviously tongue in cheek because nobody else is at that level.

Oh… I got that beat.

I was in Eppernay sitting in The Lying Rag, drinking vintage champagne with no access to the internet and blissfully uninvolved in our (understandable) group meltdown.

I think it’s only fair I preserve my energy for all the work I need to do at the weekend to rectify this shitshow of a season.

Even Google doesn't know what/where Eppernay is !
