Waiting for the 'right player' becomes a bit like plugging a hole with your finger, and another hole appears in its place.Yep, I think it's one of those Van Dijk type stories again. We'll wait until the right player comes along. It has worked out before...but another season without back up for Fabs?
Not too happy about that.
We have three top midfielders. Two over 30. One injury prone.
I don't know what to make of Keita.
Jones, same there
Milner can perform from time to time, but the game is catching up to him.
Ox...meh
Carvalho, new to the league
Morton is still a kid and he's built like McManaman
Getting Gini for 12 months seems like a good idea to me.
a) we may well of course sign someone else (MF) it wouldn't be the first time we heard Pearce et al saying no more and then we sign another .. or two.I understand waiting a year for Bellingham but the problem is that we need more than just him, so why not sign someone else this summer instead?
We definitely need a competent back up to Fabinho, even if we change formation and only use 2 midfielders. Someone like that Sangare didn't look that amazing to me on the YouTube but as a decent DM who can fill in elsewhere, then that sort of signing makes loads of sense.
Also, I don't like Keita either, but presumably we'd be selling him this summer if Klopp didn't rate him...

b) it's already been posted that the club are negotiating a new deal with Keita (it's clear Klopp loves him) so just wishful thinking, he'll be sold, on behalf of some on here.
Thats a good point. Milner will definitely leave next summer (hopefully staying in a coaching capacity), Ox is out of contract and Henderson will be 33. We need two new midfielders so getting in one this summer would be very beneficial.

Rumor Mongering: Midfield Player Swap on the Cards for Liverpool?

Italian website Calcio Mercado Web has suggested that Liverpool are interested in Milan and Italian international midfielder Nicolò Barella, who has impressed for Inter Milan — indeed, his absence through suspension was a major help for Liverpool in last season’s Champions League knockouts. His injury record is very good, making 135 appearances for Inter over his three seasons at the club.
Inter are seemingly asking for a fee in the region of £77.5 million for the midfielder, who scored four and assisted 13 last season.
CMW has suggested that Naby Keïta might be offered to Inter Milan in a player plus cash offer, as Keïta’s deal is currently set to expire next summer.
As with all rumors, it’s possible that this is simply a case of “player Jürgen Klopp complimented who is currently available for sale” + “player with an uncertain contract situation” but Barella’s age profile (he’s 25) is promising should Liverpool want to try a slight refresh in the midfield.

Barella is Sardinian though, and the last Sardinian to play in England was pretty great (Zola).Calling Jesus / @Judge Jules ... please remind the group why signing an Italian would be a bad idea

Quite simply, they never - as in NEVER - work out at LFC. We've had more than people sometimes realise: Aquilani, Balotelli, Dossena, Padelli, and I don't even think that's the complete list. Italy's produced some fantastic players, of course they have, but signing one for this club would be the triumph of hope over experience.
Naby Keita is literally lucas mkii. Naby lad, pressing machine, stats don't lie, etc. You watch him and he's fucking shite. He needs fucking going

Have that conversation with Klopp then!I can't believe people actually think he's good.

Also, Barella is really suited to play in England. He's also on record saying that English football is favourite and that his favourite player was Gerrard.
If there's one Italian player I'd make an exception for, it'd be him.

Doesn't Lucas have Italian nationality?Naby Keita is literally lucas mkii. Naby lad, pressing machine, stats don't lie, etc. You watch him and he's fucking shite. He needs fucking going
Hmm maybe it's some of our posters that have the blind spot and not Klopp. Seems strange to be laying any blame on our manager !Klopps got a blind spot for midfield; long as you run about you seem to be good in his eyes. Thankfully we've got a few midfielders who can stop keita taking the pitch consistently
