Carvalho played the no. 10 behind Mitrovic in a 4-2-3-1. In Klopp's 4-3-3, that no. 10 either becomes a winger or a false 9.
Whatever little I've seen of Carvalho, I can tell you that he's going to play in attack for us.
Klopp's midfield requires a huge degree of pressing, dominating space and winning duels. A 19 year old with a slight frame isn't playing in a Klopp midfield especially when most of his key attributes are offensive ones. Maybe in time he becomes strong enough to play in a midfield three, but that's not the sort of player I think he's going to be.
If anything, he reminds me of a Pulisic type who can play on both wings and also a false 9 if needed.
You may call him a #10 but Fulham start with 3 attackers (Mitrovic, Kabano, Wilson) from 7 listed (Reid, Abobakar Kamara, Knockaert & Cavalerio) and then support from midfield (AM - Carvalho) so although it's 4-2-3-1 Carvalho is still the point of the midfield not an out and out attacker. Watch any Fulham highlights and you'll see him picking up and advancing from the HW line to the edge of the box, a typical attacking midfielder.
TotalFootballAnalysis's Season Report includes these comments:
In Possession
Contrary to what is being spread around the media, Fulham played in a 4-3-3 formation rather than a 4-2-3-1. Fabio Carvalho would sit as the LCM, and Harrison Reed/Tom Cairney were rotated in the RCM position. In the 1st phase, Fulham build in a 4-1 shape ..... The centre midfielders make 3rd man runs and collect the ball off the forward players and carry the ball into the space behind the player who just played it.
Fulham have great technical players such as Harry Wilson, Neco Williams and Fabio Carvalho who are all comfortable on the ball and good enough to combine in tight spaces an
d have been coached certain patterns of play in those areas to get the ball to a free player in the box.
High Press
When they don’t have the ball, Fulham attempt to press high in a 4-4-2 when they can. Carvalho plays slightly behind Mitrovic, so he can help him with the press. Fulham ensure that every player in the opposition’s build-up phase is being marked man to man, apart from the far side full-back, which forces them to go long. Carvalho pushes further up than Reed due to his lesser physical and defensive qualities ...
Mid Block
Fulham drop into a mid-block when a team has progressed the play past the first third. They move into a 4-1-4-1 formation where the central midfield is compact to prevent the ball from progressing through the centre. The two central midfielders will stop the opposing midfield from having time to turn on the ball, whilst the defensive midfielder will shield the ball from reaching the centre forward.
Low Block
When the opposition reaches the final third, Fulham shift back to a 4-4-2. Carvalho rushes out from the midfield line to press the opposition defenders on the ball, in order to prevent the opposition from sustaining pressure against them.
Some stats for clarity.
He's listed on TransferMarkt as an AM, CM, LM. His average position for 2021/22 (for a very attacking Fulham side) shows him firmly in the centre circle. 28 games x AM, 9 x CM and 5 x LM.
However, regardless of what any of us calls him, in our side he's up against Diaz / Jota / Nunez & Bobby for the left-sided / centre attacking slots, or Keita / Jones / Elliott for the attacking midfield slot (when we're not playing our preferred Fabs/Thiago/Hendo midfield). I think I know where he has a much better chance of game time !
