I think we have tried succession planning. Keita and Thiago should’ve been the replacements for Milner and Wijnaldum but they’re shit. Konate could be van Dijk’s long term replacement. Jota for Firmino.

All big ticket items and have the Elliott’s and Jones’ come in to help build the squad who can contribute. It’s not worked out that way.

It really depends how many of the younger players excel in their roles early e.g. Konate, Jones, Elliot etc. I'd love to see that squad age graphic that has overlays of 'peak age' too. The positives are that Trent, Robbo, Ali all still have enough in the tank to be part of the next rebuild. But there are a couple of big gaps that we need to be thinking about filling.
