Transfer Rumours 21/22

[article]The 29-year-old has made just 63 appearances for the Merseyside outfit and played in only seven league matches during their 2019-20 title-winning campaign.[/article]

Averaged 831 minutes per season (over 3 seasons) 🙁

We need another DM to work with Fabs and make our defence air tight while Klopp sorts out our CBs. Somebody like Bissouma who is a natural DM.
Obvously VVD, Gomez, Matip and Konate will only be at their best sometime like 5 games into the season, meanwhile we need to avoid conceeding goals in each of those matches. Other than Fabs, Hendo and Milner there are no other DM specialist amongst our MFs to hold the fort.
Beyond the first 5 matches we still need a no nonses defensive setup to take us through the rest of the season. It's well known that this won't be a simple season, we need strong cover for our defenders so with somebody like Bissouma on board, we are not only raising our defensive performance per matchday but we have the depth in this area to take us through all competitions. We should accept that Hendo and Milner who put in their all on each matchday may not play all games in the season. The earlier we bring in a proven DM the better not only for the current season but for the future as well.
Recent tables have shown that teams that conceed the least stand a good chance of winning the league. The preseason has been great for us but despite all the defensive formations that were employed, it looks like we conceeded easily in most matches. Yes it was preseason and yes our reliable CBs are coming from long layoff and Konate is new, our focus nonetheless has been more on the CBs and not as much on the DMs. Amongst the upcoming young talents showcased during the preseason, its not clear if we have one that has the physicality and the mean to immediately deliver this role this season.

I don't get the clamour for Bissouma. He's never stood out for me, and I'm usually quite appreciative of defensive players.

Did you not notice him in either of our games v Brighton where he was arguably their best player in both games?
Not really. I was raging at our inability to put away reasonable chances. Presumably he's more just a "play well against Liverpool" player?

No I don't think that's fair to say, Defensively Brighton are very well organised and a lot of that is down to him....stats would say he was in the top 3-4 DM's in the league last season with Kante Fab & Rodri

With that said I think we're ok in midfield this season unless we're looking at a #10, fingers crossed we can sign a top striker & really be optimistic of the season ahead.

Manchester City are preparing their new bid for Harry Kane around €150m and would also include add-ons if necessary to convince Spurs. White circlePolice cars revolving light #THFC

Tottenham still hope to keep Kane but Man City are not giving up - bid will be ready.

Pep "it wouldn't have been possible had we not sold 10 of our u12s for a combined 150m" Guardiola.

Fucking cunt.

I think it's pretty obvious Kane will move to City after the opening weekend. Spurs/Levy just don't want him playing against them in the first game. And vice versa City. It will happen.
If anyone can do it, Harry can do it.

He's gonna play the first half for Spurs, sign for City at half time and play the second half for his new team.

As England captain, the FA will pull strings to make it happen.

They would even sell it as an "act of class and 'fairness/decency'".

So Liverpool and Klopp have not been trying to sell players to sign player to sign player..?

Had to laugh when I read this one

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool 'DON'T want more players' because he has complete faith in his current squad... as he insists it 'makes NO sense to spend a lot of money' before the window closes

So much fate that we are actively trying to move players on

Latest from Pearce in the Athletic:

Senior sources at club say further incomings highly unlikely.

Great stuff.

I get not investing in the midfield if we feel Jones and Elliott are ready to fill the void. Makes no sense blocking their progress.

Not replacing Shaq or Origi in the attacking positions, providing one gets sold, would be very frustrating. We'd also be putting off the squad refresh for yet another year. It really is going to be full rebuild job in 2-3 years, which is risky, especially without Klopp here.

I think we should set ourselves up. We'll be the new Arsenal once Klopp leaves. Fighting it out for 7th or 8th place, and maybe win a domestic cup.

At this level of investment, without an absolutely elite manager, we will struggle to compete even for top 4.

Another one signs up

As it happens I'm currently reading Raphael Honigstein's biog of Klopp and was struck by one very similar quote from his early days at Dortmund. He just doesn't seem to be a fan of the amount of "churn" in the squad that one sees elsewhere.

That said, the window's got some way to go before it shuts and, as others have pointed out, we've seen similar indications followed by surprise signings before.

The main differential is Edwards and our general recruitment. I'd also back FSG to be smart enough to pump just enough money to stay in the top four. They know without our brand-value plummets, which is all they give a shit about. That gives me some hope we will remain in the CL spots, which we simply have to. The days of competing against City and Chelsea will be over when Klopp leaves, but it would be very disappointing were we to fall behind any combination of United/Spurs/Arsenal. As soon as we spend a year out of the CL it's a slippery slope down to irrelevance. The lack of owner investment means that dropping out the CL for us is as significant as a smaller club getting relegated.

Don't discount the value Klopp brings to our recruitment team. His vision and clarity regarding the players he wants is very rare for a manager as his extensive scouting knowledge. Klopp is one of those rare managers who actually has a working knowledge of most of the talented youngsters playing across Europe. Ask him a question about say Jeremy Doku, and you know he'll have seen him play. He's gushed about the likes of Dolberg, Dembele etc. when they were like 18. He clearly enjoys watching football and doing some scouting himself.

Edwards was here during Rodgers time as well, and our recruitment at the time wasn't near as good.

We really are just signing contracts over new players. Makes sense in a way but feel one attacker could be the difference between trophy and no trophy

WE'VE HAD A NEGATIVE NET SPEND OVER THE LAST 6 FUCKING TRANSFER WINDOWS.

Starting to think that we actually were after Daka.
Klopp just called Leicester's transfers "fantastic".

Oh.

I wonder what he makes of Chelsea's signing, or Utd's, or City's.

Does that mean we were in for all of them too?
