Torres Sub

Sorry if this has been discussed on one of the other threads. But I haven't been on for a couple of days and can't be bothered to read every thread.

Just wondered what people's thoughts were about Torres being subbed with about 15mins to go?

As most of you know, I've taken issue with Torres and his lack of effort this season, so whatever Kenny publicly states as the reason for taking him off, I don't care, but I hope privately, Torres is told that it's due to his lack of effort.

I was happy to see him taken off, whilst I think Hodgson may have been scared to make such decision, Kenny won't and neither should he be.

I desperately hope we sign Suarez.

I was sat hoping the same thing, he should have come off sooner.

The problem is it only take split second of genius from him and we're back in it.

I suspect he was substituted becuase of the midweek game with blapckpool

Torres put a shift in yesterday, so I believe Kenny's stated reasons were sincere. We needed some fresh legs and something a bit different.

Obviously Roy or Rafa would have been slaughtered for making that sub, but there wasn't much wrong with it.

Personally, I don't buy this lack of effort and not caring stuff about Fernando. He's woefully out of form, hasn't had a rest in over two years, and is lacking in confidence.

The quickest Torres ran all day was when he saw his number held up.

I personally think he hasn't recovered from his groin problems and that's why he doesn't have the pace and power he once had. If he's worried about a reoccurence of the injury it wouldn't be surprising that he's minimising his effort through the game.

If I'm wrong then he's a lazy petulant shit.

The only problem with taking Torres off is that we don't have anyone nearly as good to replace him. He was right to take him off, but it really hurts us to not have someone anywhere near as dangerous to come on.

I feel it's the latter - and the constant moaning at the ref...

Pack it in Torres!

He looked sulky at times in the first half, he allowed Evans nip out in front of him and win it easily. Then at times he worked and ran the channels. It was a mixed bag for me. He is capable of something magical but without Gerrard on the field we we're always going to struggle finding him in space.

I don't think he created a chance for himself all game long and he scuffed anything that did come his way. He also displayed a poor touch throughout.

I wasn't bothered when he was pulled off. It could have been N'gog playing up there all match and we wouldn't have known the difference.

That said, I don't think Dalglish was making any sort of statement with the substitution. How can he? Torres is our only striker worth bothering with.

I feel like the moment Gerrard was sent off Torres didn't believe he would score and it showed in the way he played.

Whatever the problem with Torres is, I'm all out of patience with him. The Bolton game was the first in a long time where I felt he worked hard, and I said in the first ten minutes that he was playing like he was up for it and would probably score too, and he did.

The Chelsea game showed he can turn it on when he wants to. I'm not doubting that there is a psychological issue with him, where he has lost confidence or is fearful of getting injured but on the pitch it's manifesting itself with him having limited movement off the ball and generally looking sulky.

I'm glad he was subbed, whatever the reason. He needs to know he's not undroppable and that he is replaceable, which is why I'm so desperate for us to sign a top striker in Jan, with someone (Suarez) new in, the next 6 months would then show us what Torres is really made of, if he carries on like a bitch, I'd sell him in the summer and be done with it.

Personally I don't believe he's deserved as much crticism as he seems to get on here of late.

He has, like the rest of the team suffered severely this Season, for several good reasons, but he's indeed not trying to hide himself in matches. In the United game I thought he gave it a lot of good efforts but the supply to him - especially after Gerrard's red - was mostly dire and he was mostly left alone. He's not back to his best form but there've been indications he's getting closer.

Kenny only withdrawed him to spare him for Wednesday as he's by a hundred miles our best striker. And has been said therein lies the real problem. He needs a proper strike-partner and he needs proper competition if you like.

I've got a feeling we'll see Torres score goals in abundance second half of the season.

problem is Torres is a shit actor. When he feels he is wasting his time and we have no chance it shows all over his face and body language.

He would be the worst skipper ever.

If Kenny cannot get him sorted then sell him and get someone who really wants to play for us and does not give up when we are struggling. His value will still be high but another crap season and this could not be the case.

Journo: There is no magic wand that can be waved to restore Torres' form
Dalglish: "What do you mean? Torres is the magic wand".

Genius.

If anyone can get the best out of Torres again, it's Kenny.

That is absolutely brilliant.

I thought he said "Torres has a magic wand".

I think Oncy would have liked that version more.

This shit right here is why I'm glad Roy is out, a manager getting behind his player and standing up for him against the press.

Re Torres, yes he might be sulky and moaning all the time but I would still keep him.

He is out of form and that affects everything, when he gets back (and he will) he will once again tear up the league again.

I thought Torres tried a lot more than he has in the past. He put in a good shift, but it wasn't going for him.

I thought torres worked his arse off, but I agree with Ross, he isn't fully recovered & is scared to use & simply doesn't have that electric hurt of pace & power he had. It'll come back, but he's not had a real break for four years, it's hardly surprising!

IF we can keep him over the summer we'll have that nando back next season after a nice summer off.

Yep, and that goes for the rest of the squad too.

Meh. "Allow" is the key word. I don't believe for one second that Pepe will go anywhere, and now that the King is back I don't think Torres will either.

i'm curious... as much as he is vilified by some, why would purslow do this? was it prevent them from walking out after rafa was sacked? context's missing
