Just realised Suarez isnt eligible for the Europa League.

That's that fucked then.

Is Torres eligble for Champions League?

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

I was really angry at first but I'm over it now. If I look at things pragmatically I see this. Torres is a truly world class player on his day - no-one can deny that. When I look at what he's contributed the last 18 months or so - those days are few and far between. I think that gets overlooked because of his icon status. He'll never get the love from the Chelsea fans he received from us and Atletico and he's completely soured the relationship with LFC fans with the manner, timinig and location of his departure. That's a shame because it could have been done much better and Liverpool fans would have understood it more - although doubtfully if he went to Chelsea.

It's just a shame all the shite he's come out with over the last few years on his affinity and love for the club has been nothing but PR spin. It's a poor show indeed. Take the £45-50m. I won't even shed a tear. I hope his injury record carries on though.

The Players hate him

The Fans hate him

I hope John Terry fucks his wife

He's gone folks, I'd accept it. His no show means he has no intentions of playing for the club too. Take the £50m of Chelsea and re-invest it wisely - I wouldn't hurry or panic. It would be the wrong thing to do We'll be a much better team with 2-3 class players in it than the sulky play-when-feels-like-it prick anyway. Hope he goes the same way as Owen
Yup, it's over ...

Every team still in it is allowed to add ONE new player into their squad that has played in the UEFA Europa League

get 50 in two payments - offer that 25 to Lille for Hazard ... and 25 in the summer for Lukaku ... We'll be a better team ...

bye bye Nando.

dream scenario for me.
So, you're saying that other big clubs won't come knocking in the summer if he wants to go??

He's said that he likes both Bayern and Juventus and you have Barca with a new kit deal.

Of course we can get 50 mill in the summer, and Chelsea will now that they can get him for it aswell. It's all about being tough and play hard ball.
we *can* get £50m in the summer, IF someone offers it. the clause doesn't mean he couldn't be sold for £40m, though, if that's the maximum we could generate.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

What Sunny said.

One question I need answering,

Has Paddy been in touch with Dave ?

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

I don't think he's leaving in this window.

I cant be bothered reading through all this to find out so can someone explain the clause to me.

It's been widely reported that this summer a clause activates meaning a bid in the excess of £50m forces our hand and allows for him to leave.

If that's true, why would we accept less than that now? Surely they'd have to pay a premium. I.E above £50m. Not £40 and some old shitcunt?

Reckon we should sell Torres & just buy Everton with the money, just to shut the bitters up. Wonder what we could do with the change... #LFC

She's fit too.

Thing is, I don't think all that stuff was PR spin. I reckon his head's been turned by some ridiculous wage offer from the Chavs on Abramovich's direct orders, and I think he'll live to regret it.

Sad but true i hope we get Anelka in the deal or we are left with very little time to find a striker to partner suarez who i suspect will need time to adjust to the premiership.

I still think someone else's twitter suggestion of buying Goodison with the 50 mill and burning it to the ground was a far better idea.

I judge people by actions not words JJ. I think what he's done this week has negated all those 'words'. You're right though - I think he'll live to regret but never admit it. I also think he's well been tapped up. But that's not unusual. I'd love Chelsea, given their track record and suspended transfer ban, get bit in the arse with it though. Would laugh my arse off.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

I'd rather he go now; I don't want to think of him in a red shrt, I dont want to see him on the bench or in the reserves or anywhere.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Goodbye Nando, thanks for the memories... shame you couldn't become a legend by staying until the summer and fulfilling your promise not to join another English club.

not necessarily. it depends on how that £50m relates to his normal market value. if it was above £50m then there'd be an incentive to wait until the summer, hence pushing his current value down, for example from £60m to £55m. if it was below £50m then the clause is effectively irrelevant, except in the marginal sense that it makes the process much quicker and easier.

you can't go saying things like this and then not share!

this is on twitter so it's public domain in my opinion, a little something to brighten up this otherwise dreary thread:

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Bugger you're right Suarez can't play in the Europa League because Ajax dropped down after coming third in their group 🙁

For all matches from the start of the round of 32, a club may register a maximum of three new eligible players for the remaining matches in the current competition. Such registration must be completed by 1 February 2011 (24.00 CET) at the latest. This deadline cannot be extended.

One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club competition matches for another competing club in the current season may exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fielded:
? in the same competition for another club; or
? for another club that is currently in the same competition.
Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Europa League, his former club must not have played in the UEFA Europa League at any point in the current season

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

I'm just waiting for it too happen now. Fully resigned to it. Doubt we'll get anyone in before the window shuts though

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

If don't get anyone in before the window closes we're going to struggle.

Kuyt upfront? Hmmmm

Oh, and PH. I'd rather sell Torres to Barca/Juve for 40 mill in the summer window than for 50 to Chelsea.

No significance to Torres not at training this morning. Was given time off last week & will be training at LFC as planned in later session
