That Anelka did,Jon.

But we're not getting him; we 'd be getting the 9 years older version.

Thats what I'm worried about.
He still scores Avvy, a lot more than any of our players, bar Torres obv, & he'd be playing his favoured position in a city he likes living in, considering the limited time to get someone in it makes perfect sense if we can get him as a 'bonus'.

But we'd only have hours left to replace him.. Anelka would be better than no one.
Im hoping that we are already in discussion with clubs re: Torres replacements.

We have the money - we could spend another 30 million and consider that the money will be retrieved once Torres is sold in the summer.

We may have to overpay for the player we want.. if we need the sale done quickly..but securing a european spot is surely worth the gamble financially.

Cheeky bid for Aguero?

I believe Chelsea had a 52m bid turned down recently.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

A word from Guillem

Soon we will know if Torres is staying or going. Today he will face his team mates for the first time after he handed in that transfer request. He has been calm and expectant after he took such a huge decisions, conscious of the consequences. Believe me if I say that his agents aren´t doing anything that he doesn’t want them to do (no, he has not parted company with them, despite internet rumours to the contrary that surfaced last night).

I believe Chris Bascombe when he says that Liverpool are willing to listen to a new offer from Chelsea because I was told that in the last 24 hours both clubs have been in touch. That suggests that Liverpool realise that Torres has taken this step because it is clear he wants to leave and there is not much point in keeping someone, no matter how important, if he is not happy. The striker did not lift a finger in the summer after receiving huge offers from City and Chelsea because he was told it was decisive for the selling of the club that he stayed. He was not the only important player that could have left stayed to help the club.

But on this occasion and thinking perhaps that the wagon of Chelsea, who is showing their ambition by trying to sign him, will not pass again, Torres had to take a decision as Liverpool, who are certainly progressing but not at the pace he would like, were not willing to listen to new offers after the first one.

I had a fascinating discussion on the radio with Ian St John, someone I respect a lot. Some people have invented a story that on the radio I talked about when the transfer request was presented to Liverpool (we didn’t get into that at all). But it was an interesting exchange as Ian argued that players have got too much power while I reasoned they have earned that power because, after all they are the stars of this business. However, I also understand the idea that clubs, as Ian said, should be above players, that it is the clubs that carry the feelings, history and the name and players shouldn´t be above them.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

We know that we will get 50 mill for him this summer if he wants to leave, so if Chelsea wants him 1 day before the window closes, it's going to cost them a shitload.

Not 40 mill + Sturridge

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Jon Fox- you're a right showbiz reporter, aren't you. Always on the spot, clocking the goss.

You are the Perez Hilton of SCM.

Oh, and Chelsea did NOT.....

FFF: maybe Aguero doesn't wanna go there?

Whatever happens, I hope that we're pulling up trees to get in another top striker!

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Chelsea did NOT bid £52M for Aguero and Godin.

It did NOT happen.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

YAY 100!!!

Dalglish won't force an unhappy player to stay. Not even if it's until June.
Problem is, we'll have to buy a new striker and considering the time and the panic, other clubs can really stick it to us.
- Oh, so you want Llorente today? Well, we want £50 Million.
- We'll give you £25 Million.
- Oh really? Well how about no. Clock's ticking.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

From twitter.

Sammy Lee just confirmed to some kids on a wall that FT is training. Lets see....

Shite tweet, but still.

This is one reason why taking Anelka as part of the deal would be a good idea.

@fraser_dainton
Fraser Dainton
Dalglish and players here at melwood and about to start training but so far I'm not convinced Torres is here. Hope to confirm shortly.

Luis Suarez is here though, arrived in club van and brought his baby out in a pram. Bless!

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

If Liverpool are sensible they are sounding out replacements right now. If none are available then don't sell. If there is a clause in torres' contract of 50m then that is the minimum we will receive and there may even be a bidding war

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

King Kenny will sort it out. Torres will stay. We'll win the Premiership next Season.

And I'm off to buy a Lottery-ticket.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

Agree Neil, I hope we've been working on finding a replacement over the last two days

If they give us £50 Million and Anelka, I'd agree. Cause in that case Anelka would basically be free.

That's actually the maximum we will receive.

Re: Torres - Chelsea 35mil Bid turned down

He's on 100k a week.

Even if we match it and give him 2 years, thats 10 million in wages for a 32 year old we should have bought 10 years ago.

Not really; thats the trigger clause.

If Citeh offer 60 we'd be able to sell him to them, assuming he's keen to go.
