To get the best out of Carroll

So what should the team do and most importantly what should Kenny do to get the best out of Carroll??

Lets focus on January transfer window. So who should we sign who can help our top class striker Carroll to start scoring loads of goals for us.

I don't have enough confidence in Downing. Bellamy isn't going to play that much of a game. Kuyt at right wing isn't going to whip in non stop crosses from right flank. Henderson is hopeless. Enrique depends on team play and could whip in 4-5 crosses per game. Maxi is as good as gone.

So there's not much consistency there from the flanks.

Is is either we sign someone right and supply as many good balls possible to Carroll or we fucking sell Carroll and admit we fucking waste our fucking money on him.

If suarez moves around, pulling defenders about, then carroll has space to run in to. Or if suarez is left in space then carroll can pass to him.

I will say this.


Carroll cannot and will not play deep or whatever you call it for us as it doesn't work because we already have Kuyt, Gerrard and sometimes Suarez who does that. In fact, i would say Carroll has gain a stone or two and his movement is really like a fucking train.


To get the best out of Carroll we need wingers who can deliver crosses from left or right wing. Its either we fucking get Downing to do it or get someone else.

Kuyt does not play deep. he plays RW or as a striker. Suarez can play that role, but suarez can also play off the shoulder of a defender as he has the mobility, vision and skill to do so.

Gerrard is a force on the wane so he will start playing deeper and deeper as time progresses.

If we just focus on the view that we need to get crosses to carroll then we will be easily outplayed and beaten as its so 1 dimensional. If we play him from deep we have the option of late runs into the box to get on the end of crosses, a bit of space for him to run in to and use his strength or his rifle of a left foot

It also give us the opportunity for flick ons if needed. Rather than a long ball getting hoofed to him and he has to head it backwards to a support player, he has the ability to flick it over the last defender and into suarezs run.

Basically, we need to stop assuming every high ball aimlessly lashed into the box will be met by his head resulting in instant GOAL!

If we get good delivery ACCURATELY into him, he'll score a fair few headers, no doubt.

But if we get the ball to him in front of the goal with the ball at his feet, this is where he is at his best, in my opinion. Anywhere from five yards to 30 yards, he'll always be a danger to opposition.

So I don't think I'd change anything , id keep playing an get his confidence going as Andy Carroll , given his size and power, at full tilt will give ANY defender trouble .

He's got the capacity to squander his career or go on and become a monster in equal measures.

I do wish he'd get the idea of coming deep and going wide for the ball knocked the fuck out of him. Nothing worse than seeing a big, strong, slow centre forward outside with Martin Kelly aside him.

Bar one spectacular hollywood ball he played in the wolves game he's looked gash when deep or wide .

Get a midfielder (gerrard ) buzzing around him and latching on to knock downs etc. We don't need to change our style of play to suit him , we just need to be smart.

Exactly, play it smart. He needs mobility around him but we shouldn't limit his game to just the ball winner. He has many other attributes which we aren't using. Strength is just one of them
