Plus I can see this being our formation in the coming weeks

-------------Gerrard---Meireles---------------
---Maxi------------Cole-----------Jova-------
--------------------Torres---------------------

It simply has to be.

besides the fact maxi was total SHIT today

Delinquent made a good point though; Maxi's hardly played this season..

He also did play quite well last season so hopefully he'll be better.

Maxi is a fucking waste of time too. He might look ok in a team of fucking superstars but in our team he looks like a relaxed passenger because he is.

And sadly, the same can be said of one too many of our players.

I doubt roy will play gerrard and meireles together (although I'd love to see it) because they are two attacking midfielders.

1. We didn't lose.
2. Meireles started well.
3. Away support still vocal despite having precious little to shout about.

Depends, neil. A set-up like Vieira and Petit had for the Arse, taking turns with one bombing on while the other sat back, could work. We were never going to be as solid in there defensively anyway after your bogey man Masher left.

Both Vieira and Petit were holding midfielders

His reputation in Portugal is that of an all-rounder who puts his foot in as much as he goes forward, not as defensively minded as Masher but well able to handle the hard defensive graft (he first broke into the Porto team at LB).

Vieira and Petit's starting position was certainly in front of the back four but both of them, Petit especially, got forward a fair bit. The role Meireles played in Portugal suggests to me that he's more than capable of doing that kind of job.

I would be overjoyed with meireles and gerrard in the middle of the park with cole behind torres

Yeah, I think Gerrard has to play CM for the foreseeable future. Him playing further forward against the Brummies surprised me after what Roy had said about him earlier in the season.

it really is a case of how open roy wants liverpool to play, it's funny that roy is playing two defensive midfielders and two wide players who will track back and offer loads of protection but brum had at least four CLEAR CUT chances to score.
