Judging by Klopp's and Mane's words, they treat this as one of the biggest games of the season and Klopp will select the strongest (and freshest) starting 11 regardless of the derby on Sunday. I still thought it's interesting to summarize the rotation of the front 4 in the last 2 weeks:

Tuesday Sevilla – first-choice front 4 starts
Saturday Chelsea – Firmino and Mane rested
Wednesday Stoke – Salah and Coutinho rested
Saturday Brighton – Mane rested
Wednesday Spartak – ?
Sunday Everton – ?

Will Klopp rest any of the "fab 4" tomorrow? It's very hard to predict, not knowing the specific tactical idea he has in mind against each opponent. In recent games you could see Klopp has analyzed every opponent thoroughly and selected a team based on a specific idea, for instance he predicted Brighton would sit back, so 2 midfielders in the back 3 made sense, Stoke was all about control and I still can't quite explain the Chelsea selection, but it surely looked like two tacticians with a lot of mutual respect trying to surprise and outsmart each other.

For Spartak, it really depends on what specific weaknesses Klopp wants to exploit – for instance I could see an argument for Sturridge either leading the line or playing alongside Firmino or Salah up front. I could also see Ox's energy and speed being useful in this game – but that doesn't mean he will start. Spartak is a team with good individual technical quality and playing an intelligent continental style of football under their Italian coach – I think our biggest edge over them is not in terms of quality and technique, but in terms of energy and intensity; the RPL simply can't condition a team for the same level of intensity over 90 minutes as the EPL – if I were Klopp I would try to maximize our advantage in that area first and foremost.

With that and other things in mind, somehow I have a "hunch" that Coutinho will be surprisingly rested this time. Once we go past the front four, I think it's much easier: Can and Wijnaldum will probably start together in midfield (with Milner and Hendo penciled in for Everton) and the only other question is Trent vs Gomez – really hard to pick one over the other. Really looking forward to this game, a big atmosphere and a big performance.

4-2-2-2:
-----------------Karius------------------
Trent---Lovren---Klavan---Moreno
----------Wijnaldum---Can-----------
Salah-----------------------------Mane
-----------Firmino---Sturridge--------

Subs: Mignolet, Gomez, Henderson, Milner, Coutinho, Oxlade, Solanke

BTW I would pay money to watch Mane and Salah race each other. They should really televise it.

Like for the title alone, never mind the analysis.

I don't think I want to see Sturridge start. If we are relying on our pace and energy to blitz them, I'd rather have Mane and Salah flanking Firmino, with Coutinho in midfield.

My idea is to blitz them with the pace and energy of Salah, Mane and Firmino, with the cool head and experience of Sturridge picking up the pieces 🙂 Who knows what Klopp is thinking, but I'm sure he has analyzed Spartaaa....k in great detail.

No way captain Hendo will be rested for CL. I also really think we'll back 3 again.

-----------------Karius----------
-----Gomez--Lovren--Can---
TAA-------------------------Moreno
----------Hendo--Gini------------
Salah------Firmino-----Mane

Maybe?

I think all of Salah, Firmino, Mane & Coutinho will start vs Everton so maybe Coutinho gets the rest for this one? Firmino earmarked for an early sub if we are winning early.

We need a draw at worst, they have to win. So we make sure they have little space in our last third, keep the full backs deep and blitz them on the break.

Karius

Gomez, Klavan, Lovren, Robertson

Coutinho Can Milner

Mane Sturridge Salah

They will come with the deepest approach we ever saw at Anfield. In the away game agaisnt them they were like a Mourinho on drugs.... However a Draw will not do them any good.

They have to win though, which should open up some space for us and the possibility of some counter attacks.

The kids beat Spartak 2-0 this afternoon to top the group with 15 points

Brewster was held back by team mates and Gerrard at the end. He’s allegedly been racially abused according to reports. Watch UEFA get serious and give the Russians a 55p fine.

Seem like the world of sports are willing to actually punish those cheating bastards these days. UEFA however probably don't have the balls or intentions to do something about it.

There was a few tweets earlier saying that there were about 150 Spartak fans looking like throwbacks from Millwall at Euston earlier today.

I know it's Twitter and the replies were mainly piss takes - "if I was a doorman in Concert Square tonight, I'd phone in sick tonight" was my favourite.

Any locals seen anything of these?

I remember these lot coming over in about 92 I think for a Cup Winners Cup game and we lost 4-2 and Mike Marsh was sent off for what can only be described as an assault right by the dugouts after getting fed up of seeing their players doing it and getting away with it. He literally felled their player and virtually didn't break stride to the tunnel.

Plus their fans were all in the city centre during the day bartering their stuff for cash money. How times have changed eh?

The keeper and defense are so spectacularly shit and the attack is so outrageously good that anything is possible in this match.

Strap yourselves in lads.

It's 90 minutes of squeaky bum time. Nothing's getting done at work this afternoon

Happy with the lineup overall though.

That said, there's no one else I can pick.

You never (ok, very rarely) pick forwards (more for logistical reasons cos they have to get out of position to speak to the ref), & take them out of the equation & I can't pick anyone of them to be a captain.

Milner is the only one of our entire squad I'd choose for captaincy tbh.
