So it looks likely that he's going to be unveiled tomorrow or tuesday at the latest.

Let's get behind him eh? I've been one of the more reserved complainants about his possible appointment and would have liked one or two (maybe three) others considered before Woy. At the same time I realise he's done well over the last couple of years and is a thoroughly decent man (which means more than some might think). My main complaint is that his recent (relative) success has been in a completely different environment and with different expectations to what he'll be subject to at Anfield, meaning it'll take a leap of faith to hope he'll step up to the plate here.

Let's get behind him and give him the benefit of the doubt. He might just get us back in the top four and playing sexy football.

Welcome Roy, we wish you all the success in the world.

About time something like this popped up to counter that shit-fest of another thread.

I'm an admirer of Hodgson and his recent work at Fulham, and have defended him more than most on here against a load of people intent on making things up or twisting statistics to vent their disapproval of him. But I'm not a massive advocate for his appointment at Liverpool football club and in a perfect world I'd like to be hiring someone with a more impressive CV. However, Liverpool is the polar opposition at that moment and Hodgson has the diplomacy skills to at least be civil with the owners and not rage war on them to the detriment of the side - this is important; he knows the English league inside out so they'll be no period of adjustment, he's tactically astute, but no overly complicated, he's widely liked and respected in the game - he's made of good stuff, and I think he'll help unify a dressing room and boost spirits. He's also proved at Fulham that he's an expert on living on a tight budget and getting the best out of resources and the current playing staff. By Christ we need that now.

I don't know what will happen, but I'd wish him the best of luck and he'll have my complete support.

Bang on Squiggs.

I know he's not the big glamorous foreign manager that some hoped for, but maybe we needed to take a different approach this time, and as you, myself, Vlad and a few others have said a dozen times now, if anything he'll get us back to basics, get the best out of what we've got and hopefully have us playing as a 'team' again.

With the support of Dalglish (as I've no doubt will be the case) this could be a good move, if only for the short term at least, it's the best option for the club given it's current predicament.

Yeah, I've said I'd put Dalglish as assistant manager.

Whether Dalglish is humble enough to accept it is another matter.

starts singing to the tune of Boney M's Rasputin .........

Roy, Roy, Roy Hodgson,
Manager of the Liverpool team,
Wer'e in the shit now he's came along.

Roy, Roy, Roy Hodgson....................

Stops singing when he realises that nobody else is joining in and kicks ground in embarrasement.

A lot of good points here, and I really hope Mr Hodgson takes us to a better place.

Getting back into the CL, and holding onto our players would be a great first season. But as I said, I can't help but feel we've all dropped our standards too far in this appointment, we could do much better.

Personally, I can't get behind this appointment. I understand that to some it seems reactionary to be calling for someone to be sacked before they are even appointed (chuckling here). But the fact is, we deserve better, and I'm not willing to waste another few years for another corner that won't be turned. We can do better.

I hope there's room for diversity in holding these views on this forum, because I'm getting tired of the foul mouthed eejits slagging off people that feel strongly as I do on this one.

good luck ROY.

I must admit I fear his appointment is the end of Gerrard.

Having said that he's a truly decent individual and represents many of the qualities that we may not necessarily find attractive but are sorely in need of at this point.

Good luck Roy!

Welcome Roy and good luck! I'm not sure if he will be able to convince Gerrard and Torres to stay but whoever is at the club, I'll be supporting. I do believe that we could have done better but any glamorous coach would cost us money that we don't really have!

I hate this.. as uninspired the last year has been it is actually turning worse.. get lost roy, you are the past and not the future of fotball.

Spot on, say no more.

...but isn't the whol point that this appointment is nothing more than an attempt to paper over the clubs serious cracks.

It's a blatant slap-dash attempt at holding the club together on the cheap... not taking us forward.

Again... I don't dislike Hodgson... I'm sure he's a decent fellow and well... he's been around a bit, so clearly has some ability.

But.. what we're looking at here is an appointment of someone with a reputation for getting average results on a limited budget. There is no money for him to spend, there is a strong possibility that our world class players will be off, with no idea that any of the proceeds will be re-invested. I can't imagine a new owner with money to burn would have Hodgson high on his list of managers to take over.

At this stage, thoughts of regaining a top 4 place and Cl football should probably be replaced with finishing in the top half of the table.

Good luck Roy... indeed... he's going to need a shit load of it.

This pretty much reflects my thoughts on him, I also think that his biggest challenge will be convincing our biggest players to stay and I'm not sure he will be able to do it.

I'll support him, of course, but I'm very worried about the clubs future.

Appointing Roy is a solid move for the club right now.
I'm happy we've picked him and I hope he can turn our team around, quickly.
Welcome Roy & good luck to you.

The future is the way ahead of us. Ahead. It is lining up how Liverpool fucking FC is going to act in the next ten to twenty years... And that somehow hasnt Roy Hodgson name on it.....

It is not about next season... t is not about one single act. The future is about long term stuff. About which state do we want to be in....

Future football is what is ahead of us...

I dont know what you dont get... ?

we pick a manager that only won two games away from home last season... has won next to fuck all in his career (with decent clubs)..

Yeh welcome Roy and Good luck..

*considers going into hibernation, like I did in the 90's when Evans was in charge*

while crossing fingers, toes and everything else cross-able.

I'll welcome him when he is actually our manager.
Until then, no thanks. Would like someone else that's a more promising. We really need to finish in the top 4 this season.
