Roy Hodgson (born 9 August 1947) is an English former footballer and now football manager, who is currently the manager of Fulham.[1].

Hodgson is probably best known for guiding the Swiss national team to the last 16 of the 1994 World Cup and qualification for Euro 1996; Switzerland had not qualified for a major tournament since the 1960s. He has also coached many notable club sides, including Malmö FF, Inter Milan, Blackburn Rovers, and Udinese. He was appointed to his current role at Fulham in December 2007.

Hodgson has served several times as a member of UEFA's technical study group at the European Championships, and he was also a member of the FIFA technical study group at the 2006 World Cup.[2] Hodgson has also worked as a television pundit in several of the countries in which he has coached and speaks five languages.[3]

He has won fuck all, and will win fuck all.

In the 1997 close season, Hodgson was tempted by Jack Walker to become manager of Blackburn Rovers. Rovers had finished 13th the previous season – only 2 seasons after winning the title—and had been in danger of relegation. Manager Ray Harford had quit on 25 October 1996 with Blackburn winless, bottom of the Premier League and just knocked out of the Football League Cup by Division Two underdogs Stockport County. Coach Tony Parkes had been put in charge for the rest of the season and overseen an improvement in league form to secure survival, but it was clear that chairman Walker wanted a more experienced man to build a side capable of regaining the form of a few years earlier[citation needed] (when Blackburn had been league champions), and Hodgson accepted the offer to take over.

In the 1997–98 season—his first season in charge – Blackburn finished 6th, qualifying for the UEFA cup and appeared to be in the ascendancy. However, Hodgson's second season with Blackburn would prove to be disastrous, both for the club and for his personal reputation within English football. Hodgson spent £20m in the summer of 1998 to strengthen the Rovers side[8]. A succession of poor buys – notably the £7.5 million Kevin Davies—coupled with injuries and dressing room unrest led to a disastrous start to the season. He was sacked in December 1998 with Rovers at the bottom of the league table.[9] His final game was a home defeat to Southampton.[9][10]

Fucking lovely, He's is just the man we need!

He is ancient. He is a short term appointment for us. We look like we are going to win fuck all next year.

I think i would place my bets on him not winning much in the future.

I hate this.. as uninspired the last year has been it is actually turning worse.. get lost roy, you are the past and not the future of fotball.
What the fuck is 'the future of football'?
The future is the way ahead of us. Ahead. It is lining up how Liverpool fucking FC is going to act in the next ten to twenty years... And that somehow hasnt Roy Hodgson name on it.....

It is not about next season... t is not about one single act. The future is about long term stuff. About which state do we want to be in....

Future football is what is ahead of us...

I dont know what you dont get... ?
That's just ridiculous, Insig.

The future IS massively important, so it's imperative at a time of crisis to find some solidity and stability, and this is exactly what it's about. Unfortunately he's not Jose Mourinho, but he's not some decrepit pensioner with alzheimer's either.

Why can't we wait till this is announced in the news?
My thoughts exactly...

According to one of todays redtops Roy will not be taking the job until he has assurances on monies available for new players

Apart from Kenny he's probably the only British manager I'd be somewhat 'ok' with beeing appointed.

That said I'm not impressed at all and would much prefer e.g. Rijkaard or Deschamps.

However is Roy Hodgson our next manager I'd support him 100 pct.

NB There were a lot of stories during his tenure in Danish football about him beeing extremely difficult to work with - from the boards point of view. If there's any truth in that we're in for a ride...

Is it that much of a problem? It seems very likely given his odds (1/3), the media speculation, and (more importantly) the information of those "in the know" on here.

You could just not post in the thread until you feel more comfortable about it. if it doesn't happen then we'll deal with it.

If this isn't all signed and sealed, isn't there a chance now that Hodgson might sit tight for the England job?

I suppose so. But it would appear to be a pretty slim chance.

Capello has a press conference this afternoon, some of the media seem to be getting a bit excited about what he might say. But I doubt he'll make any moves before coming back to England, he's said as much. So if Roy is waiting, it will be a few weeks at least, maybe he won't want to risk losing the Liverpool job for merely a chance at the England job.

Roy has the job. There's far too many people 'in the know' saying it to be otherwise. In fact, no-one who's previously got a track record for getting things right regards our club has said otherwise.

Look, I'm not over the moon with it either. But it's likely to be relatively short term, RBS will make sure of that cos they want new ownership & new owners want a new manager.

If you judge him as someone prepared to come in on a short term basis, play 'back to basics' footy & keep the ship steady without having a 'five year plan' & wanting back room staff that will cost the earth to move on when inevitably the new owners get shut, it's a sensible, if uninspiring appointment.

I think people need to realise attracting a manager in our current circumstance is difficult, it's almost certainly a poisoned chalice on a short term basis, so we could do a LOT worse.

With the whole short term, steady the ship context in mind, I think that's why so many, myself included, would have seen Kenny as the right option, in terms of it being sensible, but also giving everyone a bit of a lift, which is what everyone associated with the club can do with.

That said, like I said on the RH Out thread, if he's in, like you say, we need to get behind him, end of.

If Dalglish wanted to manage Liverpool, he should have spent the last ten years managing football teams.

Just a thought. But why would Roy consider coming to Liverpool as a short term manager until the club is sold? It make no sense whatsoever

He'd have to be confident/hopeful that if he done a good enough job the new owners would keep him on.

Because in normal circumstances he would not be consider for a job at Liverpool Football Club.

But then we're not in 'normal circumstances'.

We're fucked.

When he was just a little Woy
His mummy asked him, what will you be?
Will you be a tram driver?
Or Lamp-lighter maybe?
Here's what he said, to she.
Coach the reds the reds
they're under the beds the beds.
I prophesy by McCarthy that will be said
Coach the reds, the reds.
