The Torres Bet

Me and Froggie made a bet about how many goals Torres would score in the league this season. So I want to keep track of it.

20 goals is the mark. Froggie clearly felt Torres would return to form and is surrounded by more creative talent this year so 20 was possible.

I think Torres is done as a top level striker and think he'll either be shit for most of the season or injured so won't hit 20.

So anyway after 2 games, Torres has one goal. It was offside and against a Championship side but it still counts.

Interesting that you should raise this subject, as a few days ago I invested £10 with my chum Victor Chandler that Torres would be top Premier League goalscorer this season. I think I got 7/1 on this.

Although his goals have dried up since he moved to Chelsea, his passing and movement is still as good as ever, and to me he always looks about to score a load of goals. I felt that the absence of Drogba and the arrival of Oscar could be the boost that Torres needs.

That said, I have to admit that Victor did quite well out of my bets on Torres scoring last season! When he first arrived at Anfield from AC Madrid, Torres was willing to get physical with Neanderthal centre-backs, but he eventually lost the appetite for this when he began to feel it was damaging him and he wasn't getting any protection from referees. That seemed to be the start of his goal drought.

I think Torres may have a better season than last, but not necessarily by much in the scoring stakes. In that squad I see him having to do the kind of job that he did originally at Atletico, buzzing around and making a nuisance of himself up front as much as going for goals per se (it was Rafa who spotted what he'd need behind him to turn into a top goalscorer, and laid it on for him at LFC). He'll get some, but I wouldn't anticipate a 20+ haul.

Hope that isn't a signal for Torres to tear up all scoring records - though, having said that, I'd still sooner see him do it than anyone at ManUre.

Agree completely, he needs two things behind him to enable him to score a lot of goals. A deeper lying central midfielder with enough intelligence & speed to play it forwards & negate the opponents CM, & then an attacking midfielder with enough intelligence & skill to play an extremely quick 'slide-rule' through ball into the space he will be in by the time the ball gets there, therefore negating the CB's too.

They were Alonso & Gerrard. No one at Chelsea can do those two things for him.

his movements still good even without the pace, and his finishing last season has to just be a blip, he'll do fine

He's only once ever scored 20 league goals in his whole career, maybe that was the blip?

I reckon he may get about 15 in the league, assuming he's injury free.

So Rosco, do you think you'll be proved right that he's 'done' if he scores, say, 17-19 goals this season?

We can cross that bridge when it comes Doc, but I'm expecting Chelsea to sign a striker to play instead of him before the window shuts so I can't see us crossing it

Hazard has 5 assists in his first two games.

That's more than Modric gets in a season. Yeah I know, stats aren't worth shit, but they are really aren't they?

Stats are handy when someone has an agenda for or against certain players.

Yeah, no matter how many times people tell me that it is irrelevant that Adam had most assists and moreover, created most goalscoring chances for us last season (despite missing a third of the season with injury), I can't help thinking that it is relevant.

Wasn't our bet that I said Hazard would get at least 20 assists ?

I think it was £100 to charity wasn't it ? Or £50 ? 1 from 2. I'm confident 😉

Why do you think its a good thing to start a topic on that guy who left us like the way he did in one of our clubs darkest hours ? Seriously do we have to waste time discussing his performances now that he plays for another team or show any interest in that selfish cunt ? I really hate him, and his name so much that it has the same affect on me as the name Barbosa does for the nation of Brazil when it comes to football (check it out if you don't know) - seriously I would even now hate to get another player with that same surnmae. His sale to a domestic rival at the time, represented a truely new low for this club which I hope is never repeated.

Moron

Aren't there enough other threads for you to post in you feel the need to come into this one that you have no interest in ? BTW the title of this forum is 'The Football Forum' not the 'Liverpool Only' forum.

We are Liverpool Football Club.

We are legend. We are history, past present & future. We are the greatest British club side of all time.

He is but one man.

Let it go.

The way Barbosa was treated by Brazil was fucking stupid and disgraceful. Jinx my arse.

What a TIT!

"maybe we can become the first team to win two Champions Leagues in a row.
I think it's a good time - especially for me - to give something back to the fans."

Well when we won it, it was the European Cup..... But I hear what your saying and agree.

Bellend isn't he
