The race

Here's the remaining games. In the PL, we have 9 games away and 9 at home.
I would see us getting 35-41 points, taking us to the 82-88 point range.
of the 9 away games, 9 are games where you would see us possibly dropping points. No games r easy

I think we're okay. This is hopefully the blip period, but it's no coincidence it's coincided with Jota, Ali, Tsimikas and Konate all either being out or getting back up to speed.

The next month is 4 weeks is massive in terms of returning to winning ways. It's our easiest period of games on paper and it's where we need to stretch the lead further.

After this, we don't have back-to-back PL games until late Feb. These are the periods we need to string wins together and continue growing our points total.

We're very lucky Chelsea, City and Arsenal are all absolutely fucking shite and haven't been able to capitalise.

4 draws in a 6 week period in any of the last 5-6 seasons = title gone.

I still remember being 11 points ahead of Utd or something like that under Rafa and whilst we were drawing everyone was like "it's okay, we're still 9 points ahead"... "still 7 points ahead".... "still 5 points ahead".

It's happened a few too many times now for me to ever feel confident seeing this happen.

We're fortunate to have at least picked up a couple points amidst some off performances but there's no question that we don't look right now like a team prepared to seal up the title.

Hopefully we'll get there but as we get into the business end of all four competitions, you wouldn't be able to say we look at peak form.

It's slipping through our fingers you know, and we're happy to let it happen

Do FSG and the LFC board really care? It looks like we're going to achieve top 4 with minimal spend, and we'll also reduce our wage bill when TAA, Salah and VVD leave, so happy days as far they're concerned. Money saved.

Yes, they do care, or at least the guys you've heard of do. The rest of them aren't arsed and are quite happy if the club runs itself and balances its own books. The board, honestly, don't get involved in football decisions, their role is to confirm what's available to spend, Hughes, Edwards and Slot will decide when and how much they use. The board acts as more of a supervisor to ensure they don't overstep.
I've said before that I believe we've money to spend. And if we can spend without needing cash from FSG then they will be happy to let us do so.
It annoys the hell out of me that Salah, VVD and Trent aren't sorted (one way or the other) as it leaves us in limbo this window when we should be recruiting to sustain our push in the second half of the season. It's likely we'll need to replace one or more of those three, we should already know that, and we should be doing it now to give us some extra legs for the rest of the year.

Are we talking about people way deep in the background in FSG in the US here? I'm guessing people in the club in Liverpool badly want to win.

Yes, basically the small shareholders at FSG who just like baseball.
LFC is an equal opportunities employer so does take on supporters of other clubs, but even most of them are desperate for us to win.
By comparison, when the accountancy firm I worked for back in the day did the audit of Everton, they mostly employed fans and low-balled on the wages, with the consequence that some of them really weren't very good at their jobs.
