Holding their own against Spain with Johnson doing quite well. Get the feeling Spain can crank it up a gear or two though.

Very impressive by England so far. Defended fantastically and have kept their shape perfectly. Been really impressed with Lescott this season but had put it down to playing beside Kompany. Looks quite good beside Jagielka too tonight though

I reckon Johnson's issuing a "Come and get me, Real !" plea, with this performance.

Maybe I'm in the wrong thread with this, but is it not a wee bit stupid for England to have Terry in the squad and complain about not being able to have the poppy on the shirt? We're meant to remember the people who fought against the fascists after all...

Why is Torres getting the only boos ?
[/quote] Cos he's the biggest cunt on the pitch.

Fabregas got them too.

Excellent performance and win. Lescott & Parker were superb.

This will be blown out of all proportion.

The facts are that Spain have been poor since winning the World Cup.

Is it just me or is Joleon Lescott one of the most underrated defenders in the game? He was rock solid against Spain. Been in top form for City as well.

Which facts ?

If you're referring to the humpings they took off Argentina and Portugal, as well as losing to Italy in friendlies, then, yes, they would appear to be suddenly rubbish.

Their Euro 2012 qualification record, however, presents a rather different story:

Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
Spain 8 8 0 0 26 6 +20 24

Not too shoddy, I reckon.

If the game mattered I'd wager it would have been a different performance from Spain, that said, it was a good win and great to see us looking solid for once. I find it difficult to cheer a Frank Lampard goal though, particularly against Pepe.

Eeeer...I wasn´t in a great mood but that game was boooooooooring.

And "you" thought Sven was too defensive!?

At least it showed we can adapt our play, most teams try to go gungho against them, there's no point playing them at their own game. Look at how United faired against Barca, playing open and just trying to play their own game and they got shown up.

Precisely. You play toyour own strengths.

Funnily enough someone on Twitter posted the score as Stoke 1 Barcelona 0.

Comparatively speaking they have. They went for years going unbeaten and now they're losing games against any half decent opposition.

England are now World and European Champions after the last result.

Just ask any Scotsman.

Yeah, but they've still done the business when it's mattered.

Argentina are still hot and cold (shite in Copa America) and Portugal are fannying around in the play-offs.

United played an open game against Barca in the 2009 CL final, no doubt about that but i don't think that was the case in the 2011 final. They soaked up possession and their defensive line was very close to Van Der Sar - Messi's goal highlighted that. They still got battered though.
