His performances in the Euro's weren't encouraging. I still think he's a good player.
It wasn't and I was rather disappointed with him.

In his defense he had played almost a game a week for the past two years (with U21 Euros for Denmark last Season stealing his vacation) and he has now been given an extraordinary 3 weeks prolonged vacation.

According to sources inside the Ajax ranks they were extremely afraid that he'd get severely injured during the Euros as he was running very low on fuel even before teaming up in the Denmark camp.

Don't know how much it influenced him but he did look over-matched at times. Which I personally have never seen before. So until proven otherwise it was a good learning platform for him, with the increased pressure and expectations, that will only make him stronger.

And how exactly does that negate anything I said in my original post?
It doesnt. I'd happily take him for a reasonable price or free of course and I think he has proved that he's a better player than he was during his short stint at Man U.
We need a good backup and he works well with Suarez.

I think he needs to challenge himself by going to a bigger league sooner or later and quit playing for the U21s.

Yeah he won't play for them again the U21s, he almost didn't last year either but got talked into it as it was in Denmark, etc.

And you could be right with re to move, Eriksen has now won the Dutch league twice in a row and especially in this last Season he was their star-performer alongside Vertonghen and Siem De Jong (the older brother to Luke).

And as Ajax has bought Schöne who's a very similar albeit not nearly as good a player as Eriksen they have been bolstering in his position.

Vertonghen is pretty much Agger II in Fifa 12. High praise. Do you think you could give a quick scouting report on him.

He's very alike Agger as a type and probably even better on the ball even though it has to be said it's easier against the Willem IIs than Chelseas to look so. A balll-playing defender he is indeed. Lefty as well and can play in a holding midfield role as well.

He does however seem much more prone to the occasional fuck up. It is probably one of Agger's biggest strengths, that he doesn't make that many fuck-ups over the course of the Season whereas Vertonghen has got a tendency from what I've seen to suddenly give the ball away to the nearest opponent. Something that will be punished severely at a higher level. This could of course also be related to the lack of quality in opponents at time hence a lower concentration.

He's only two years younger than Agger so I'm not completely convinced he'll become one of the best defenders in the league but when on his game he is a joy to watch.

Wow great report, that sounds like it fits in with AVBs style. Does he exceed at the holding midfield role?

I wouldn't think twice about in Holland but not so sure when it's in the Prem. He sure can play though but probably lacks a bit of agility/quick feet to make that spot his own.

Salomon Kalou has arrived in Lille with his brother Bonaveture. Should be talking to the club this evening. Four year deal rumoured

According to Icelandic TV channel RUV, Liverpool offered Gylfi 30,000 pounds p. week, 20,000 less then Tottenham Hotspur

Also reported that Bayern Munchen, Aston Villa, Stoke, Southampton, Reading, QPR, Newcastle and West Ham showed interest in Gylfi

£50,000 a week seems faaaaar to much, glad we didn't break the bank.

Crazy salaries.

How much is Henderson on?

60k. Two wrongs and all that though, it looks like we're trying consciously this season to implement a structure and an ability to work within restrictions.

Or in short, it looks like we're tightening the purse strings to right past wrongs.

It's gone completely out of hand. Even more so important that we didn't match Spurs insane offer then.

Yeah, have to make a stand somewhere. I can see how Gylfi might have felt short-changed by our offer though.

I think he'll prove a missed opportunity. I won't even ask how much Downing is on, nevermind Cole/Aquilani.

We should have raised our offer to 40k, thats not unreasonable considering how well he played last season. I can understand why Rodgers felt aggrieved considering he knows Sigurdsson had accepted 30k for Swansea, however I also don't blame Sigurdsson for going for the bigger offer.

Someone is really upset we are yet to sign a player
never mind our competitors, even west ham have got about 6 players in so far. Fucking pogrebnyak could have been an ace signing for buttons. Guys are out there banging pnuematic bitches but we are wanking hard and judging by some posters, proud of it. Happy to tell the world we should wank because them bitches are only fucking because their men have money. Bunch of fucking homos. Either he is a liverpool class of player and worth the wages and signing or he is not good enough at all in the first place. I look at downing and long for the days people would complain about having to pay jovanovichs wages after getting him on a free. Anyone who finks we should wait until january when david funking blunkett in a blindfold from a mile away can see wat has been clear for 3 twatting seasons with our squad deserve a good gang raping by the roy hodgson red arse gang and yes that does include poulsen and mike kelly with konchesky fondling your gonads and telling you how much you want it while nodding violently and making contorted faces at you, his own sick twist to this ordeal, while the boys take turns at the other end of you on a pile of soiled nappies. A fitting ordeal which would have you screaming out for man-transfers in next to no time. But they will not come, there will be no unveilings to save you, they just keep pummeling and pummeling while konchesky keeps juggling. Roy needs time to warm up the ald codger todjer so should blow his load around january, provided John Henry doesnt intervene with his distorted january market hypothesis, to a cheering crowd of wools hanging off his every word distracting roys disharge rythm and delaying the end of the lisped phallus fun. I'll just close the door and let yas crack on then. That Jordy Classie wants signing up, I dont care if Brodger has to send his badger to steal miss henrys handbag to fund it but strikers and wingers please.

Why? Hes had half a dozen games in the top flight. How does that warrant 2m a year?
30k would have been more than i would have said he should be on. With an option to review on a year. Prove you are worth 50k and you get it.
We shouldnt offer silly wages for new/young players.

Exactly. Inevitably, the cunt probably will end up being class, such is our fantastic touch in the transfer market, but he could just as easily disappear up his own arse and we'll be left forking out 20k per week (just over £1m a year, let's not kid ourselves) more than we wanted and be stuck throwing it at this kid for two more years (£2m) longer than we want to.

I agree, but once you've set a precedent, it's difficult to go back on. Players want parity with their peers, and while you've got the likes of Henderson on £60k a week, incoming players are bound to feel a little aggrieved if they've got twice the talent, but are offered half the wages.

Having said that, we do have to start somewhere if we want to get costs under control, but we're going to have to source our players very well, and we should probably be prepared to lose out on a few targets as we implement the new strategy.
