Skrtel rejects Man City advances as Liverpool defender commits future to Anfield

By Sportsmail Reporter

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has brushed aside Manchester City's adavnces and insists he is looking forward to the new season at Anfield.

Most recently the Slovakia international has been linked with Premier League champions Manchester City and before that it was Russian big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala.

However, while Skrtel's agent has previously hinted the player wants to be reassured the club's ambitions meet his own, the 27-year-old said he was optimistic the coming campaign would be better than the last, which brought a first trophy for six years but also saw the side finish eighth.

I'm staying: Despite City's advances, Skrtel wants to remain at Anfield

'I will be leaving for Liverpool on July 6. I am very excited about new season,' Skrtel told his personal website.

'I hope we will be ready and this time it will be much better than in the last one.

'There is also speculation about my exit from Liverpool but I can say that there was no offer on the table yet and we didn't hold talks with any club.'

Skrtel, Liverpool's player of the year last season, has two years remaining on his contract and new Reds manager Brendan Rodgers is likely to want the centre-back to extend that deal.

*knucks to my scb*

Dont worry, you'll be laughing when petrol costs go much higher and we all cant afford to drive and you get on the buses free.

According to Corriere Dello Sport, Barcelona are willing to let Ibrahim Affelay go out on loan - with Lazio interested at the moment.

why has that guy "rodger" made that video all cloudy ? is it meant to be some sort of dream sequence ? Is rodger going to wake up to find this Traore lad in the shower and realise none of those goals happened .

What Traore is doing in his shower in the 1st place is a whole different episode .

Liverpool are set to miss out on imposing striker Lacina Traore, who is set to join Anzhi Makhachkala.
The 6ft 8in powerhouse, currently at Kuban Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League, was on Liverpool’s radar.
New manager Brendan Rodgers is in the market for more attacking options and hoped Traore would join his Anfield revolution.
But Anzhi have emerged as the strong favourites to land the 22-year-old, who is yet to earn a call-up for the Ivory Coast.
Anzhi, who finished fifth in the league this season and are managed by Guus Hiddink, are desperate for reinforcements in order to establish themselves as the number one force in Russian football.
And the big-spending side from the Republic of Dagestan believe they will complete the signing of Traore in the coming days.

Foiled again ! Seriously , i hope these are all shite rumours and these aren't actually 1st choice targets . I don't want to end up with a team of jermaine pennants !

If we indeed are looking for a strong, powerful back-up striker at a decent prize, which I am admittedly all for, here's a very good shout:

Dame N'Doye, 27-year-old striker from FC Copenhagen, with 70 goals to his name in 129 matches.

Trainers in Copenhagen has described him as not only the best striker in the team - obviously - but also the best player overall, as he's got a lot of ability. Strong, big, skillful and a real team player.

Is valued at around £5M and is probably on his way out after several good Seasons in Denmark with his contract running out in a few Seasons.

Before you go all bingo bongo on me suggesting someone from the Danish Superleague, to your information, the last player I suggested us to be signing from FC Copenhagen was one Brede Hangeland. He's done alright.

Real Madrid’s Lassana Diarra will leave Spain for Italian giants Milan this summer, says agent Ernesto Bronzetti.

“Diarra is on holiday in America right now,” Bronzetti told Marca. “However, as soon as he is back, he’ll find an agreement with Milan.”

The 27-year-old has been at Real since his 2009 transfer from Portsmouth. He’s also played for clubs such as Le Havre, Chelsea and Arsenal.

FIFA agent Bronzetti works closely with the Liga outfit and has a good relationship with Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani.

Just read that Laudrup is looking to sign De Guzman, a 24-year-old Duth midfielder who can play on the wings or in central.

He looked very impressive a few Seasons back with Mallorca before being sold for £6M to Villareal who's now been relegated.

That could be a very good signing for us too especially as he's been allowed to move on and probably won't be expensive at all. Improve the overall quality in the squad.

Interesting snippet from Oliver Kay in "The Times" today about Villas Boas. Turns out the reason he fell out of contention for the LFC job was that he objected when he was told Rodgers, Martinez etc.would be interviewed as well as him. I cannot see how someone with THAT massive an ego will cope with a chairman as strong as Daniel Levy.

BR turned us down too when it was suggested it he was on the list of candidates, or have you forgotten that bit? It was only 6 weeks ago

Easy, tiger. Rodgers didn't wait until after he was invited to interview to say what he said - he made it clear beforehand in response to speculation. Different circumstances altogether.

Not really, how do we know what said to avb when he was approached first.

In the end the club made it clear They wanted BR, so he came

We don't know what was said to AVB, but Oli Kay must have a pretty good idea, or he wouldn't have risked being sued over it by going public.
