Gaston.

I liked the look of Tello's YT video's. He looks full of pace and promise and, although it's based on little more than nothing, I'd be excited by his signing.
Tello for 7M looks a bargain. He has all the tools to become something special.

So why are Barca selling him then?
Just wondering, not having a go.
Manager left and only won the Spanish equivalent of the Milk/Carling Cup? I would think that there's pressure to spend a bit to compete on all fronts and new manager want to keep Affalay. So something has to give.

Am I the only one not massively overawed with Affalay? Maybe I just need to see more of him and he's in the shadow of a few other players at the minute, he's just not quite what I expected him to be, yet maybe.

This is what I got told before.
Sigurdsson - nailed on
Krasic - won't happen
Tello - massive interest, cheap aswell.
Ramirez - interested but unlikely to sign
we're in for a lower league forward aswell..

From Scott on RAWK

I'd be happy if our two cheap purchases were Sigurdsson and Tello - but we need 1-2 suarez like players (impact wise).

I would take Berbatov. He didn't fit into the counter-attacking Man U side, but if we want to build our team around possession than we need as many intelligent and technical players as we can get. We need players with great first touch and creativity who can operate in congested space and unlock defenses with their intelligence and passing. Speed and athleticism will matter less in this system.

I also have a feeling Berbatov will have a point to prove to Fergie for leaving him out of finals etc. Might work in our favor if we do sign him.

Kalou or Krasic are both not intelligent players. Do not want. Well, Krasic can be a wing-back (he played in this position at CSKA, although not too well), but his crossing is not that great.

£20M For Carroll - I'd bite their arm off up to the elbow!!!

Tello is a good player and could develop into a great player at which point he will go straight back to Barca a la Fabregas, so despite being excited by this link ultimately what is the point as we just can't win

Those are fair points, but he is 31; has never had a great attitude, would be an ex-Manc, and would demand massive wages. If we want that sort of player, we should go after Luuk de Jong, and not Berbatov.

How true. same with Arby. Still can't understand why we sold Arby for so little.

Carroll living and working in Paris? Not sure I could see that working out.
Sadly we are in the market for the players we can attract. Those that have failed to live up to early hype, or those that are purely shite.

Those are fair points too, but let's look at them one-by-one:

"He is 31" - intelligence, technique or vision don't disappear suddenly because of age. The attribute that deteriorates mostly is speed. That means that a player who didn't rely on speed when he was younger, will generally age better than the one who did. I think Berba will still be quite effective playing as a second striker (i.e. the Bergkamp role).

"has never had a great attitude" - depends what you mean by attitude. He has never moaned or undermined the coach or the team in any way, his attitude in that respect is perfect. If you mean looking lazy on the pitch, well, that's his style. He looks lazy and non-plussed even while scoring or doing an incredible trick. That's just who he is and that's part of his enigma. That never stopped him from being a good player.

"would be an ex-Manc" - like I said, with a point to prove against them. I understand that maybe for some people "ex-Manc" label would be impossible to overcome. Not for me though. Especially not with someone like Berbatov who is just being himself in every team he plays in. He played for Man U, but is he a "manc"? To me, Owen is much more of a "manc" than him at this point.

"and would demand massive wages" - not that massive at this point, I would imagine. He is considering going back to Germany; nobody is going to pay him tens of millions there. Well, Russians or Arabs or Chinese might tempt him with a big paycheck; it will be up to the player if he wants to play at a high level or just earn money.

Because they can't make the team yet. Barcelona will make sure they have a buy back clause just in case he comes good.

So you don't think Arsenal benefited from having Fabregas for 8 years?

I do.

Good signings if true.

Udinese’s Kwadwo Asamoah and Mauricio Isla have moved a step closer to completing transfers to Juventus, as both undergo medicals this afternoon.

The 23-year-old versatile Ghanaian Asamoah has spent the last four seasons on the Zebrette’s books, whilst 24-year-old Chilean Isla has been with the Friulani since 2007, but both now look set to complete a move to the Italian champions Juve.

Reports this morning suggested that the Turin outfit had struck an agreement with Udinese patron Gino Pozzo to sign both midfielders on co-ownership agreements. Juventus will reportedly pay a total of €15m to take up 50 per cent of the duo’s registration, with both players equally valued in the deal at €7.5m.

Asamoah has been pictured arriving at the club for his medical this afternoon and Isla is expected to follow shortly afterwards.

Chelsea are ready to make a €25m offer to Fiorentina for Stevan Jovetic, claims the Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Champions League winners, who yesterday confirmed Roberto Di Matteo as their Coach for the new season, are refreshing their squad.

Jovetic is widely recognised as the Tuscan club’s best player following his return to action this term after being sidelined for the whole of the 2010-11 campaign.

Fiorentina extended the Montenegro international’s contract until June 2016 in October, but his future is in doubt.

New Viola sporting director Daniele Pradé insists that the club want to keep him, but it will be the player who will decide his fate.

“We’ve said it on numerous occasions over the last 20 days – we want to keep Jovetic,” he commented. “However, a lot will depend on the player’s motivation.

“If the player is thinking of leaving then he will have to tell us that. He recently extended his contract, but he has to let us know of his intentions.”

Jovetic, 22, scored 14 goals in 27 Serie A games this term.
