The Manager

Im not trying to say that Gerrard should have started, he shouldnt. But the qualities Wiberg lists above, he did have. He's done all of this in his career. He cant do it anymore though.

You telling me Gerrard has never tracked runners, made last ditch tackles, saved us plenty of time in the past? Course he has.

The issue at the moment is that he cant do it anymore, and its sad to see people only remembering the past few months and downplaying what an awesome fucker he has been for us over the past 15 years. Best player Ive ever seen and the way some talk about him is fucking disgusting.

It is time for him now though. Sad to say.

He has made loads of tackles... He has always been a ball chaser, so of course he has.

But you have to be able to spot the difference between a HM and a ball chaser. To build a defense around this type of player is... Well, nonsensical... I lack words really.

This isn't about Gerrard being a poor player. It really isn't. But he isn't the right man for that job. Never was and never will be. He was shoehorned in there because Rodgers didn't have the balls to do the right thing last season, namely drop him from the starting XI.

Staying that Gerrard is the worst HM I have ever seen when we are off the ball really isn't that unreasonable. He never had any schooling there and he never displayed any tactical awareness of the ball. He chased the ball.

Saying all this really isn't a put down.

He is hopeless at HM and we all knew it in 08 so what has changed?

Being dominated and outplayed at home by the bottom team of the league, on new year's day is pretty depressing.

Augurs well for 2015 doesn't it ?

Of course he is playing DM. Completely off the mark to suggest he isn't.

When we are off the ball he is right in there at DM. How could you ever say something like that?

Not playing DM... Seriously... Well, he isn't... But he sure as hell is required to. That's the entire problem right there in a nutshell.

Not playing DM... My ass...

The correct answer is Christian Poulsen.

Gerrard is not playing as a DM though.

Talk about missing the point. Poulsen could do nothing but exactly that! He could track and close players.

Ask Totti in the Euro 2004!

You really aren't doing yourself any favors.

Not pleased mate, just resigned to the fact that nothing lasts forever. He's the second best player I've ever seen and in his day I really do think he was one of the top two or three players in the world...certainly the best midfield player on the planet. But he can't cut it now and whether it's out of blind faith, respect or fear the manager isn't taking the decisions that need taking and that's holding back individual players and the team as a whole.

I think you're taking people's frustration at what we're seeing on the pitch currently and making it seem as if it's a vendetta against Gerrard.

Do you agree we aren't good enough - like last year - to mask his inability to fit into a central midfield position?
Do you agree we've not yet found him a position to utilize his remaining abilities to influence matches?

Obviously he's in the conversation for the greatest player to ever wear the shirt. He was a phenomenal player - but now, he's hindering what we need to do to compete. Does that mean he cannot contribute? Of course he can ... but the problem is, if he starts, it means taking out Lucas (not his biggest fan but no one at our club protects the defense like him) or shafting Henderson to the right (where he's not nearly as able to influence the game). Now can he be a 'super sub'? I doubt his ego and status at the club will allow that ... So in essence, he's hurting us now ... We've always claimed that no player is bigger than the club ... if we want to push onto 4th - and we can (hopefully with Cech in goal) - we need Gerrard to either be our super sub or move on ... I'd rather he stay with us and get a proper 'hurrah' at Anfield every time he steps out there .... but fairy tales - as Carra found out with when his missile hit the post two years ago - don't always get written by us fans.

The fact that his place in the team is even being debated illustrates the extent of his decline. THE Steven Gerrard walks into any Liverpool team in history...in fact any club side I've ever seen.

He needs to be used exactly the same way City are using Lampard.

Still one of the only genuine matchwinners we have in this squad. And he will be gone soon.

Question Pete is will the player be able to deal with that? Lampard was basically doing that last year ... so he's used to it. Gerrard has never done that before ... and perhaps he's unwilling to go out that way.

Is he still a match winner though? Taking penos out of the equation and being a bit objective, he doesn't win us matches any more. If anything there are games where he has thought he can still ping them in from 35 yards and wastes chances (e.g. Chelsea last season. That for me was more costly than the slip).

He's been the best playing in the team for pretty much every season I've supported Liverpool and I hate the fact he is being played in a position that he can't do. No one wants to be slating him but when he us played in an important role that costs goals if done so poorly, they are correct to be wanting him out of the team.

Just stick him further upfront and let other teams worry about him.

He's still more composed in front of goal than any of our other forwards and he can't play 40 yrd Hollywood balls if he's 30 yrds from the opposition goal.

Poulsen was fucking terrible for us.

I assume you are Danish.

Yes. I used to work with Khl.

The Danish national side was build around Poulsen for 8years and in his prime he was really good. Like I said, he took out Totti in his prime at the Euro 2004. Saying he was worse than Gerrard at DM is... Not too clever. Like the current version of Gerrard he was at his last breath coming here. But after an entire career at DM... Well, he didn't have the tools anymore. But he was miles better at DM than Gerrard.

Gerrard should have been used like Lampard. Of course he should. That is for the past 2 years at least!

I hope he leaves soon. I think this is a shame for all involved, especially Gerrard.
