Weird to think the 2 original rafalution Spanish players Garcia and Alonso will not be here anymore........

Gutted, but Rafa has always improved us with all his transfer business. Now is the time to trust Rafa again.

The fee still has to be agreed. We do not have to back down over this.
We are still in a good position with the player as it is a World Cup year.
It is one of the few times where a player will have to stay and will have to apply himself to best of his abilities if he wants his shirt for the WC next year.

Gerrard handed in a transfer request and he is still here.
All I am doing is holding out a bit of hope that he will stay at the club because he is integral to how we play.

5 years ago, we lost our best striker and we came out ok.

I wish Xabi all the best for Spain, but I hope he's as successful for Madrid as Owen was ... and I hope he enjoys watching us lift #19 ...

And then there were two - Gerrard and Carra. In some ways Istanbul doesn't feel like that long ago, hard to believe they're the sole survivors of it.

Perez is apparently not too keen and is under pressure by the media/technical staff but he still makes the final decision, if he doesn't want to spend the money on a midfielder then he will stay also notice the deadline has passed and Xabi handing a request is the last resort but it doesn't mean anything if Real doesn't want him now

If you count Alonso as still here for now, are there really any players from Istanbul who you would still want here?

Beyond Carra, Gerrard and Alonso the rest are either old or not that good.

He's done the right thing by the club though mate, financially anyway.

Yeah, doesn't even have to be the same position really, just someone to make up for that loss of overall quality.

I can't see us winning the league while bedding in a new central midfielder. Every choice mentioned weakens us, and frankly, how are we selling a top level player for 10M less than it will cost us to replace....

Whoever we sign as a replacement will not put in the performances that xabi did last season, i just hope we can strengthen our forward line to help compensate.

I think that really depends on who we bring in. Had we lost pepe, gerrard or torres, I'd agree with you. But in this case, if Rafa gets in the right man, we're as strong as last year.

😀 he's not gone yet, it's strange to see the Spanish press reaction to this, Balague is trying to make excuses as to why Madrid haven't signed him yet. I am starting to suspect Perez will not push this through. they had deadlines for Benzema and Ronaldo and Perez was keen so pushed it through but the Xabi one has passed and he is training today I think? so it looks like he's been left high and dry, unless Perez caves in he will be gone when the Spanish press get word and run with it but so far they haven't.
