The incredible Xabi Alonso thread 2009.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Ryan, nearly every story has suggested Alonso is on his way this summer, and the possible touted replacements are fairly good. Posters here are just bracing themselves for one of our best players leaving. I for one I'm desperate for him to stay but I just don't see it, however if he does leave and Sneijder joins as part of a deal, that is good business, considering it may come about from Alonso wanting to leave rather that Rafa wanting to sell.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I still feel that Xabi will stay here and be a vital part of our title winning team.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Come on lads. Final push to 100 pages.

Let's have some more of your Alonso related nonsense. I'm particularly liking Ryan's self righteous stance just now.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Xabi Alonso will be staying.

But he might be moving too.
Yer ma! Football manager playing morons! How dare you contemplate Rafa selling Xabi! Were finished without him etc etc

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Look, you bunch of traitorous, non-Xabi appreciating poltroons, don't you realise that Player X + Yer Ma = Shite Midfield > Xabi ??

That's the equation you guys just aren't seeing.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Does this mean you want him sold Oncy ?

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Liverpool + Xabi > Liverpool - Xabi + Player X + Yer ma.

Check it, dicks.
I do feel a bit sorry for him you know. He has a proper mancrush on Xab. This has gotta suck for him.
Hopefully seeing the posts by you, me and others will make him realise what a twat he's being.
Im never in favour of selling our best players regardless of how long the saga runs for. If he stays i will be fucking delighted (although i'll not see xabi the same way again) but im not going to stick my head in the sand and wish it to go away. Im happy to discuss what we should do about alternatives and i dont play football manager at all.*

*This does not in any way mean i WANT to sell Alonso.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

For the sake of the ton,
Do you see Gerrard in the same way after his flirting with Chelsea?

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I don't.

And I won't see Alonso in the same light if he stays now too
Hmmm. Good question. Yes i think i do. The difference being the manager at the time did nothing to assure Gerrard he was wanted (as documented in the press and Gerrards book). Once Gerrard realised he was loved and wanted he sacked Chelsea off.
Benitez couldnt be clearer about wanting Xabi to stay.
The Gerrard thing was a tad more grey for me.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I wouldn't see alonso in a bad light whether he stayed or left I would only change my opinion of him if left and then made out he was forced out because rafa tried to sell him last year. How can anyone harbour ill feeling towards xabi, 5 years of quality and then left (if he leaves) when his value was at it's highest unlike some people *cough* owen *cough*

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Whereas Benitez has never done anything that might make Xabi feel unwanted ....

Xabi did enough in the previous season to make his manager ponder how worthwhile he was in the team.
To clarify. If he leaves i wont harbour any i'll will. If he wants to go thats his right and he owes nothing to me regarding telling me he wants to go.
If he stays i'll think he's a jockey for not coming out sooner and saying i want to stay. Thats the situation id think less of him in.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Gerrard major issue (as detailed in his book) was his desire to earn 120k, not 90k.

Which in my mind drags him down to the level of such footballing loveables as Cashley Cole, John Terry and other greedy bastards of that ilk.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

He's staying... end of! Unless Real offer silly money that is!
I guess we all see what we want to see. He certainly mentioned money but in no way did i get the feeling that was his motivation in handing in a transfer request. Something Xabi has yet to find the testicular fortitude to do.

Why did Gerrard refuse contract talks seven times after the initial offer of 90k a week ?

devil's advocate;
if he was paid what he was worth (clearly liverpool's best player) he wouldn't need to ask for a pay increase. has carra ever needed to ask for a pay raise? no offence but carra isn't in the top three liverpool players.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Gerrard didnt feel loved?

Benitez seems quite clear about selling Alonso in the past, and also has had issues regarding the whole baby scenario, a soundbite here and there to the media about keeping the payer may not really be what he is saying to Xabi, we don't know unless Xabi writes an autobio as wel.
