The incredible Xabi Alonso thread 2009.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

so how much of this 35 million euros is actually cash i wonder. i can still see us getting shafted with 15 million cash and an over priced madrid player that we were never interested in.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Have we actually in reality for definite for sure sold him yet???

or are we just going on what they are saying in Marca or mundo deportivo etc....

Does anyone actually know if we have or not becuase everybody is talking likes its a done deal and its getting confusing.... has he gone then??

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

They paid the Ronaldo deal in full, so it's likely any cash payment made to us will also be made upfront. They've clearly got the capital to be able to do so.

As for any player exchange it depends who we're offered, but we're still in a strong position in negotiations - Alonso's contract dictates proceedings, and as a result, Madrid know they can't screw us over

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

So????

is that a yes we have sold him??

or is it a no we havent ???

I would put very little credence to whatever any spanish sporting paper says tbh, actually or the english ones. Has Alonso actually come out and said for a fact that he is unhappy and wants out??

If not then it will be sad if we cash in.

BTW how's Xabi gonna feel, should he still be at Real, if Rafa fetches up there one day? 😉
[/quote]

Perhaps this is why Xabi is being very careful with what he says in public...
[/quote

]My guess is that Xabi wont be at Real when/if Rafa ends up there.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Some reports from Italy claim that Roma want 22 mill for Aquilani.
Very talented player, but his injury record is a real worry.

If the Alonso deal goes through in the next few days, and we don't get Sneijder. We better have a fucking quality replacement lined up.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Lucas is quite good at simply passing the ball sideways, so we're covered.

Haha! But that actually fills me with some fear, because knowing our transfer dealings, we could find ourselves without a replacement when the league kicks off...

Alonso faces decision day: Liverpool midfielder to hold talks with Benitez
By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 7:38 PM on 18th July 2009

Xabi Alonso's future will be decided after talks with Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez.
The rest of the Liverpool squad are due to fly from Austria to Bangkok after Sunday's friendly with Austria Vienna, and if Alonso joins them in the Far East, Real Madrid's hopes of signing the Spain midfielder will fade significantly.
Real hope a final bid of about £26million will be enough to persuade Benitez to cash in and leave Alonso behind to complete the deal.
Sources in Spain believe Alonso's frosty relationship with Benitez will ultimately lead to him signing for Real. It is understood the pair have not spoken since the end of last season.

I would be very dissapointed if that is all we get for Xabi.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

i don't give a fuck alonso can stay regardless of what he wants if all real are offering is 26 million pounds.

26 million pounds plus a player than ok.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

£26M isn't enough for me either.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Why? Exactly how much do you think you're worth, Squiggles?

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

The role Alonso was given in all the planned advertising for next season's merchandise showed that the club wasn't planning to lose him. It might sound trivial, but those plans are taken seriously internally and plenty of thought goes into who is used for the pictures, videos etc etc. I noticed his images started to disappear about a fortnight ago, so I guess that's when his phone calls started coming in. I bet the marketing people are thoroughly peed off about having to change so much - especially as they filmed an unusually expensive promo video with him in most of the shots.

LIVERPOOL WANT ASHLEY YOUNG

Kop boss ready to battle Martin O'Neill

By CHRIS BASCOMBE, 18/07/2009

RAFA BENITEZ and Martin O'Neill will go head-to-head again in a £20million battle for Ashley Young.
Aston Villa are bracing themselves for Liverpool's offer for England winger Young, although O'Neill has warned potential bidders to expect 'short shrift'.

That will not deter Kop boss Benitez, who is also on the verge of winning his fight to keep midfielder Xabi Alonso.

The lure of a Premier League title challenge and Champions League action at Anfield will be tough for Young to resist, especially in a World Cup season.

Benitez and O'Neill fought a bitter transfer war over Gareth Barry 12 months ago. The Villa boss frustrated Benitez on that occasion, when the Anfield board refused to meet the midfielder's £18m valuation.

This time Benitez can expect the funds to get his man, although Villa recently slapped a £30m price tag on the 24-year-old.

In another massive boost to Liverpool's title hopes, Alonso is ready to commit himself for another season.

Alonso WILL be part of the club's Far East tour having rejoined the squad ahead of a friendly in Vienna tonight.

Real Madrid had set a deadline of this weekend for a £27m transfer, but that will pass without a deal and they will not be encouraged to bid again.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Does the faggot voiced one actually know anything about the goings on at Anfield these days?

So Benitez is going to hang on to Alonso and still have a shed load of cash for Ashley Young ?

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

It does make me laugh how he claims one thing one week, the opposite the next, each time with Olympian authority but no given sources, without any explanation as to why he's switched positions. Whatever he claims to his forum chums, it's the attitude of a shameless hack.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Benitez is often talking about the need of 'buying English' so a move for Young certainly makes sense.

I'd be surprised if we had the required funds without selling Xabi though - particularly if Chelsea's interest is genuine (although I suspect those rumours are bullshit, as is this).

Never liked the lad when he was the local hack that was the mouth piece for leaks - its easy now to show disdain.

It'll be different when Barrett leaves, I like him.

Anyway, I wonder what his story will be next week. Personally, I think Alonso is likely to leave soon. The longer it goes, the more I think there might be a chance he will stay.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

if what bascombe says is true, then woooooooooo hoooooooooo

alonso staying simply means we will have the best chance ever to win the title next year. in fact i'm very confident we'll win it.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

The next 24 hours are critical, if Alonso is onboard the plane to Asia and we have not come to an agreement with Real, he'll probably stay.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

This is either a rare scoop by Bascombe or the maddest gamble he's ever made. Has Carragher told him something from inside the camp or is he just going for a wild guess based on a story in RAWK about Young being in Liverpool and a slim chance that everyone else is wrong about Alonso? If it's the latter he should never be allowed to forget it.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Benitez meeting today could determine Alonso future

A number of Liverpool fans, tired of the endless speculation, have been in touch asking when we can finally draw a line under the Xabi Alonso saga...

I can tell you that we may not have to wait very long. Real Madrid will be eagerly anticipating the outcome of Xabi Alonso`s meeting with Rafa Benitez today: the first time that the Liverpool coach and midfielder have met in person since the end of last season. Alonso has spoken with Benitez on numerous occasions in recent weeks, but today presents the player with an opportunity to convince his manager, face to face, to allow him to fulfil his ambition of signing for Real Madrid.

The mood and outcome of these talks are pivotal: Real Madrid know their latest bid of €27 million falls short of Liverpool`s lowest valuation and, at this moment in time, the Spanish club are not prepared to increase their offer.

Contrary to recent reports, Real Madrid did not recently make a bid lower than any previous offer and there has been no contact between the two clubs since that €27 million proposal.

Dependent upon how talks go between the player and coach, Real Madrid will be holding out for a conciliatory gesture from Anfield in order to revive the deal. Meanwhile, Liverpool are holding out for an improved offer from Madrid – and there is a sense that the two parties are not as far apart as has been suggested, despite the fact there remains an €8 million difference between bid and valuation.

Xabi may be forced into publicly stating his desire to leave and clarify why he feels that after five years at the club, now is a reasonable time to move on - and the days following these talks are critical. All parties want the matter resolved as soon as possible: Benitez would like to finalise his preparations for next season and does not want to be presented with a late, urgent need to replace a key player in his squad; while Real Madrid must endeavour to offload several of their own players in order to secure revenue following a summer of free spending, not to mention feeing up space in an overloaded squad.

Dependant upon the outcome of these discussions between Benitez and Alonso, and a degree of compromise on the part of both clubs, we could be talking about the deal being on or off within the next 24 hours. Either way, I would be bold enough to suggest that all will be resolved, either way, within the next week.

if rafa manages to keep hold of alonso I couldn't care less who comes in (or doesn't because of lack of funds).

Absolutely no inside information in that assessment from Ballague. If every poster on this site was asked to give their assessment of where the Alonso saga is at presently then I would be confident that most if not all posters would come up with something similar to the above.

ah GB, top insider stuff;
the deal may (or may not) go ahead
the bid is not far off (except for falling 8 million short)
a comprimise may happen (or not)
