Let him rot in the reserves if they dont pay the sum we want.
Haha.

Rafa - "Xabi, Real don't want to pay the £35m we are asking for you"

Xabi - "Ok boss doesn't matter, I'll stay here then"

Rafa - "You'll fucking rot in the reserves fucker!"
Rafa is a vindictive manager at times ... I can see him screwing Xabi's world cup aspirations next year if he ends up staying ...

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Yeah, I think all the 'evidence' is pointing to the fact that he wants out.

Sucks.

The only thing that would make Alonso leaving worse, is getting Robben in exchange.
Robben is a quality player. He has been injured for the majority of last season but let's not forget how good he is.

Yeah he's a cunt but he'd be our cunt.
We don't need another Harry Kewell thanks. Nor do we need a whiny, cheating, diving git like Robben. He can sod off.
Valencia are insisting Silva won't be sold. Of course I would rather him to Robben. If he can prove his fitness and at a reasonable fee he would be an excellent addition to our team.

He is a fantastic player. Yes a cunt, but so what, we'd have to get over it. Bellamy is a uber cunt, we got over that when he signed.

What's Rafa gonna do, leave Xabi in the reserves and play Lucas in the big games?
You have managed to depress me further.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I agree with Stu on this, if he stays; he will play.

But he won't stay.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Robben played 35 games last season, thats hardly a injury plagued season.

I would love for us to sign Robben, couldn't care less about him being a cunt. He's a fantastic footballer, world class attacking player.

No, Dave, I didn't 'get over it'. I don't want us signing arseholes. I want us signing players who can have pride in calling our own, that are worthy of wearing the shirt and upholding the values of this club. There isn't much that's sacred in football anymore, I'd like for LFC to at least try to be.

Ashley Young is the man we're looking for.

Choose what you want Stu, but a whole summer (plus) of speculation isn't something to be sniffed at.
I'm sure there are bits and bobs that were reported that were completely made up, but the overal picture of Xabi banging on about going this summer is pretty certain.
It's not certain to me Asim.
How many quotes from Xabi have you read saying he wants to leave Liverpool?
How many quotes did you read last summer from Gareth Barry saying he wanted to leave Villa?
We had a nightmare summer of speculation about Barry last year and he ended up staying where he was and playing to his usual high standard for his employers.

We couldn't agree a fee, or were unwilling to meet a valuation more like and if Real don't meet our valuation, he goes nowhere. Whether he likes it or not.
What is it exactly that you are disputing Stu?
Xabi wants to leave, there was nothing to say Barry wanted to leave last summer (MON said it loads of times) but it was clear the guy wanted to leave (his farewell letter to the Villa fans proved as much).
I'm not saying Alonso is going for certain, I don't know but it's pretty clear he has asked to be allowed to leave and go to Real
I'm disputing you going on about things pretty clear and pretty certain.
You are making statements and you coudn't possibly know if they are true or not.
If you said you were stating you opinion our exchange may be different, but you're not.

Neither of us know the inside scoop on this one. You are choosing to be negative and say he is going and I am waiting to hear something from the manager or the player confirming otherwise.

We saw Riise say good bye as a starter/sub too ... 'Twas a wonderful way to say goodbye to a player who won everything bar the league with us ...

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

So.....

Xabi won't hand in a transfer request, so he wants paying off and presumably wants to somehow save face by not 'officially' requesting to leave.

Madrid are reportedly standing firm over their 20 odd Million offer. Cunts.

We really should be stubborn over this. First off, we don't want to be seen as a selling club, and we certainly don't want to be seen returning to the days where we were pushovers in the transfer market, and we don't want to massage Madrid's ego's by giving in too easily and letting them believe that they're back to the days where they can tap up who the fuck they like.

They might be one of the biggest clubs in the World, but so are fucking we.

£35m or he stays and plays. Fuck Xabi and fuck Madrid, the only thing that matters in all of this is Liverpool Football Club, and if a deal favours Madrid and/or Xabi more than us, then they can go fuck.

The lack of noise coming from Alonso is deafening, it's pretty obvious he wants to leave, and with the local press reporting as much yesterday it's safe to say it's nailed on he's gonna go, aslong as the price is right for us.

Well in Mark. I know there are widely varying views and opinions on Rafa.
But I believe 100% that he is the right man to handle this situation.
If Xabi leaves then Rafa will have ended up with a huge wad of cash and if he stays then he will be professional and play Xabi.

Either way I believe Rafa will do right by the club on this.

Cheers fella. I'm quite excited at the prospect of £35m to spend, even though I'm unsure how much I trust Rafa with that kind of money.

If he doesn't want to play for us then he should go. Let him go and play fantasy football with Kaka and co, they'll still be shite at the back.

I do too, I don't think he'll cut his nose off to spite his face. If he stays he'll play, they got through it this season so I don't see why they can't again, the only person who can let himself down now is Xabi.

Xabi's my favourite player too.

This whole thing is gay. A GREAT BIG BAG OF FUCKING WHOLE THING GAY.

NoooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo. :shakefistfaceangry:

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

As has been noted, with a world cup coming up this is the worst time for any player to try to force his way out of a contract. He can't sulk and risk being bombed out of a world cup squad, so I really do hope we make it as hard as possible for him and his agent.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

when alonso is gone lucas is going to make sure he (xabi) isn't missed...

no. really.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

With it being a world cup year it just rules out any possibility of Xabi going off for a sulk and playing shit. It is yet another plus for us and another reason why we don’t have to make this easy for anyone.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I don't subscribe to the theory that if Alonso stays he won't play. We simply don't have the players here to cover for him and the only way we can replace him is if we sell him.

Also, he hasn't actually done a great deal wrong. If he wants to leave then good luck to him.
My understanding is that Madrid, having publically declared their interest in the despicable way they always do, have been wanting him to request a transfer a while ago in order to drive the price down. He hasn't done that. He may want to sign for Madrid ultimately but we do still hold the balance of power. It could have been made a lot worse for us.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I think it's been pretty clear for some time now that Alonso wants to leave. I also think despite his public declarations for Xabi to stay, Rafa would bite the hand off any club who are prepared to make the 'right' offer. I like the way Rafa is handling the dealings with Real. Make the offer we're after or go fuck yourselves. Personally I don't want to see Alonso go as he's am integral part of the team. This season above all others we need consistency with a settled spine of the tea, with improvements made in other areas. No matter how much we get for him, it's going to be really difficult to bring someone in who is on a par, nevermind better than Alonso.

Yeah it's in no one's best interests for him not to play. He has a World Cup approaching which is a massive incentive to play well, and if he doesn't play it'll have a big effect on his transfer fee, so....
