The incredible Xabi Alonso thread 2009.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

We should tell Madrid that the price is £40M + plus Negredo. Take it or leave it.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I like the idea of Negredo. Young, physically strong, improving player making a name for himself in unfashionable surroundings in La Liga - and scoring goals. He'd likely prove decent back-up for Torres.

30m + Negredo and I'd be happy.

Robben thrown in would be wonderful.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

20m + Robben + Negredo and i'm content.

Spend the 20m on a replacement CM and we're sorted for all positions.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Why are people even considering this?

Benitez needs to tell Real Madrid to get fucked because we're not going to bring in a better centre mid than Alonso.

That'd be ace.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

xabi wants to leave that's fair enough but he has a contract so that departure should only be on OUR terms.

That's what we should do, but if he really wants to leave and Real put in a good offer, I'm guessing we'll end up caving.

did they offer manu, milan and lyon players in exchange? cough up the money or fuck off we don't want rejects, the last reject was nunez and what a star he turned out to be.
[/quote]

I think its a fair point that. I can't remember the 50mil & Negredo bids for Ronaldo. That would have got short shrift off Taggart.
Plus, there's usually a reason why they're happy to get rid of these players.

Robben thrown in the sea would be wonderful.

Fixed that.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

If real want Alonso they really must be forced to pay through the nose its as simple as that.

32M + negredo might seem about fair but i dont want a "fair" deal, a fair deal is not in our interest. Not only would we be losing one of the best midfielders in the world but we would also be losing our continuity which we finally seem to have developed and at times last season looked pretty fucking easy on the eye and to my mind pretty priceless.

Yes it really sucks balls that we do not have the money we need to get in the extra depth of quality players ( FUCKING YANK CUNTS) and i'm gutted that we are such a shambles financially and unable to compete but thats not to say we have to shoot ourselves in the foot and tear up our midfield. Real must be told in blunt fashion, stop tapping up our players we have no intention of selling UNLESS you make us a ridiculous offer which will strengthen us not you. By the way we need a replacement for Alonso plus a winger plus a striker.

Rafa should point out that Franco was a cunt into the bargain and mention that in fact they have only really won 4 european cups not 9.

Then he should tell them to fuck off.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

Molbys ... you do realise we just spent 17m on a fullback don't you ?

anyway right or wrong fuck off with that yank loving shite... they are bad'uns simple as that.

(and im right)

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

I wouldn't share that view Molbys.

They have done some good. Our manager and top players are all tied into long term lucrative deals.
They have given the manager (rate him or not) complete power over the football side of the club and have backed him in the transfer market.
They have broken the clubs transfer record.

I'm not their biggest fan myself, and they have had some glaring fuck ups, no question.
But in an unprecedended global downturn they have both seen their individual wealth cut considerably.

Never been a huge Wesley Sneijder fan.

Re: Xabi Alonso will stay at Anfield, says Rafa Benitez

He'd be good in centre midfield alright, no one would get passed him.
Might be an issue with red cards and suspensions.

actually this is the alonso thread so to be fair it shouldnt go in here but i hate then enough to challenege that so...

they have done some good? ... what exactly? it could be argued and perhaps rightly that they have increased our income from merchandising and look to be trying to obtain a more comensurate sponsorship etc fitting to the club and there was no doubt whatsoever that the club needing such an overhaul... i'll give you that. Parry and Moores were clowns there seems no doubt.

That they have also broken the transfer record at the club is moot, EVERY club has done that in the last few years more or less as the market has skyrocketed. It would be pushing it to say that we are now in for considerably better players than we were before its just that the players we are buying are now more expensive, Glen Johnson for example is a good player and im pleased we have signed him but he is the sort of player we could have signed before isnt he... when we start bringing in players like Villa then you can use that argument. Until then its pretty much as you were.
They have given the manager complete control? well Tbh they had absolutely no choice in that did they, rafa forced them into it if anything.

IMHO most of the progress we have made in recent years, consistently doing well in the champs league, challenging last year etc stems from rafa and his management and the team maturing as a unit and not from the yanks, as far as i can see they were brought in to do a singular task and they have failed spectacularly to do so and placed in debt in the process, they have lied and do not deserve my gratitude in any way shape or form. Rosco is right we did just spend a lot of money on a right back, that does not quite cut it unfortunately especially considering the amount of money which the TV companies and so on have been pouring into the clubs. And then they charge us a million in expenses for their services ... priceless.

Im sorry but there is in my honest opinion very little to like about them pair. You often read people on here talking about how great we are etc and how its the Liverpool way and gushing with pride ( rightly so most of the time) i ask if we dont accept second best as a default then why would anybody defend our owners? I just don't get it! They have shyster writ large all fucking over them.

the sooner the get the fuck out the better ... IMO.

Nor could we splash £18m on Glen Johnson, or £20m on Robbie Keane.
