Lucas Leiva.

He's never going to be a brilliant player for Liverpool. Nor do I think he's good enough for Liverpool as a first team player. He's never going to be a player who tries anything clever or different or give you a sudden match winning moment a la Luis Garcia.

I'm going to give him some credit here though. Something he does possess is guts, broad shoulders and he's never gone hiding. He's improved. Like I say, he'll never be great, but he's improving.

For the majority of the first two seasons he was fucking woeful. Clueless. Couldn't pass, couldn't tackle. Made silly mistakes that cost us games. Rightly so, the fans gave him lots of stick for it and justifiably so. He had a shit game last night but, you know what, it was a rarity this season. He's performed well, adequately if you will. He's not made any major mistakes and he's performed well whilst all of those around him haven't. He's not set the world on fire but he's done a job.

People have been slagging him off because that's his label now. "Lucas is shit therefore he must be". Can we not see beyond that. All I'm saying is if he can improve in the face of the huge amount of criticism and stick he's received could he improve even more if we backed him a little more instead of slagging him off before every game before a ball is even kicked.

He's never going to be the asnwer in our midfield. Not by a long shot - but he could improve to be a very good squad player. And he is still only 23.

Cue Brendan exploding.

Does he have a song?

Maybe a tune featuring his name sung every so often could be a nice little boost for him!

on a similar note. Does Kuyt have a song?

Fuck Lucas. He's shit.

And not once have you said 'cunt', well done Bren!

just remembered them.

Kuyt Fever and Put your hands up for Dirk Kuyt. 2 classics!

I think Lucas Leiva may be the source of your teeth dreams and the apparently impotence problems Brendan. In fact, next time you're on the job you just KNOW that you'll have images of Lucas's gizzard flashing into your mind.

*applauds*

He'll hopefully improve further as Gerrard and Aquilani gets back to full fitness so he can get some much needed rest. He's a young player still learning the trade and as such he needs to be less called upon.

Good post Sunny.

He's still young and if he can continue to improve a little more, then maybe he'll prove to be a very useful squad player for us.

I think Lucas gets more than enough love on RAWK. If this whole site had Brendan's attitude, it still wouldn't provide enough balance!

He's had some good games this season - thought he was probably man of the match against Stoke for example - but there is still a lot that is frustrating about him and I don't subscribe to this seemingly growing school of thought that he's been one of our best players this season.

One thing you're very right about though - he doesn't hide and he never stops trying. His attitude has been very good, particularly given all the stick he's received during his time here.

He might stay on as a squad player (hopefully not a first teamer) but as far as growing into being a "very good squad player", well, there is still a fair way to go.

He never goes into hiding?

Obviously some sort of sick joke.

Mediocre players who are singled out and picked on (because they're mediorce) is not enough reason to justify their place in the fulcrum of Liverpool FC's team. We still do have some standards, though I'm beginning to wonder. Too many fans have become used to average players and this annoying cult syndrome.

Keni - that's essentially what I'm to say. Still room for improvement but maybe if we, the fans, backed him a little more, he may gain the confidence he needs to improve further. Mate of mine was talking to a Brazilian lad who happened to watch a Liverpool game with Lucas playing and said the player on show wasn't even close to the Lucas he watched in Brazil. He seemed stifled and uncreative apparently

Yeah. Fair enough. Let's start sucking his cock if and when I struggle to find at least 20 other Premiership midfielders miles better than him

What Momo said.

Getting "support" is not going to improve Lucas enough to justify a place in our team. The technology required to do that does not exist.

Maybe if we sing his name he'll suddenly start contributing goals and assists...

To be fair to the lad, it can't be easy playing under such a robotic manager who has nightmares about indivudual expression on a football pitch.

I too agree.......

...............if by "love" you mean "kick in the goolies and insertion of medium sized rocket up his rectum"

I'd swap him for Cattermole like a shot. Though it's doubtful anyone other than Benitez rates him that highly. I never believed all that gubbins about a host of top clubs being after him.

That's where he plays.

The nicest thing I can say is that he is less shit than he was, and he seems to get a little less shit as the months pass.

I said he would make a very good squad player not a first teamer
[/quote]

Being a squad player is no excuse. Ignoring the fact that he cost almost 8 million quid, I expect my squad players to be of the required standard to be ready slot in when needed and push for a regular place in the long term.

I'm sure he's a nice lad and all that but it's got to the stage where, especially on RAWK, though most on there are fucking head the balls, people are merely defending him because it's become the fashonable thing to do or because they feel a bit sorry for him.

As I said, it could be a case of wrong manager syndrome but we don't have time to be carrying players.

£6 million. And I'm not saying this to be fashionable. The whole point is he has improved. If you can't see that then you're blind. He's not good enough still but I'm saying by maybe laying off the lad and him having some confidence he may develop further. Unless we do we'll never know
