+1 here - if it does start going though then it'd be good if there is a general unwritten code that people don't start saying "you didn't donate, you cunt" "I donated more than you, you cunt!" etc. But would be good to see that if we do go over the limit for the first 12 months, we are shown where we stand with the 12 months after that. I'd imagine that in the first "round" of donations 400 would be easily surpassed so instead of stopping it, they are just accumulated to cover the next years costs.. or any upgrades you have been considering but overlooked due to the cost.

One upgrade we are considering (again something originally mooted by sunny long ago) is a front page.
One that's actually attractive, design(image) driven with links to most discussed recent topics, articles by posters, news links & some customised space (a simple to use 'what's new' section) to make browsing from there easy.
Hopefully this will make the user experience better & enable some of the more overlooked forums to get some more traffic.
It's probably a way off, as I know RedNinja has a home life (very inconveniently 😉 ) & wants to update the software to the latest xenforo too.
When it does come around we'll be asking for suggestions about content & quite possibly help on the graphic design side.
This forum uses the same software we would be looking at using (it's an add on to our forum software), & whilst I doubt we can get it as polished (it's made by a design team & updated daily) it gives me inspiration about what is possible:

The avforums website is now utterly horrendous. Very sadly it's gone down the "built-for-tablets/phones" and therefore looks like a site for young kids/visually impaired; massive font sizes, WIndows 8 style tiles in garish colours and hardly any content or useful links on the front screen without having to scroll like a twat for ages.

I don't see why the site actually needs to spend any money on updates to be honest, it works fine as is. Just use any money donated to cover the normal costs.
