We've got a few players who fit this description (like assaidi, Borini), but this is a thread for Martin Kelly

What we gonna do with this lad? We're all talking about improving the CB position in the summer, so surely we'd buy someone 22-26, combined with the rise of wisdom (who will be a cb) behind Skrtel and Agger, so that's surely that position out of the question

RB? Well glenjo has that locked down for a few years, and then we have some more promising youngsters coming through (well, mccloughlin... Or however you spell it), who'll surely take the mantle long term.

So, what do we do? Keep him around like spearing, giving him occasional games; keep him and make him our CB for the future? ; or sell and move on?

I never like letting promising youngsters go, but with his injury record and lack of chances, I think it's worth getting a couple of million.

We do, but considering there were murmurs of him wanting to leave anyway, perhaps we should sell.

He wants to get paid
Exactly

thought the whole point of wage trimming was to stop average players being paid good money? He'll predominantly be a bench warmer so we don't want to overpay.

I just don't want it to turn into another Ince story. I rate Kelly.

So do I, but he's not going to improve sat on the bench.

We might as well use his position as back up for one of the kids coming through, like sama.

GlenJo and Enrique are prone to injuries. He'll get plenty of games when fit.
I'd rather move Wisdom in as a CB

He'll be very good CB. He's vocal, tough, good with the ball and decent in the air. Him and Wisdom are the future.
I'm sure they would be, but it's just a concern that he wouldn't get the game time with wisdom to develop that partnership if we do buy a new young CB

He's very poor in the air imo. A glaring weakness. He does have plenty going for him though - he's robust, relatively quick and can make a tackle.

I struggle to see him being blooded into CB role here. Perhaps a loan would be a good idea if poss?

Always looked a class player to me but injuries have set him back a fair bit.

He gives the odd good fullback performance but already it looks like injuries could limit his pace and therefore effectiveness as an attacking threat in that position.

I think he might be a good centre back and worth keeping around unless he wants money that doesn't reflect the fact he spends over half his time injured.

If he wants too much sell him with buy back / sell on conditions, I'd have no problems if we sold him and he overcame injuries then got good and we bought him back for a few extra million.

injuries for him seem to be problematic. I rate him highly, much more than Wisdom, and want him to stay and suceed but if his head is turned and he feels like he has an automatic place then.... good luck somewhere else.

He's another one who the idea of is better the than what he actually is.

Constantly injured, at best average when he played with too few moments where he's been good.

If he can get past his injury problems (which is a possibility worth hoping for for someone of his talent), he'll be one of the best squad players we could have.
He's certainly better than Wisdom at RB, and has all the physical attributes to become a good CB. I like him a lot.
Keep him. Or loan him out where he'll play CB to help him develop further.

Whoops! This sounds a bit dubious, surely it's just gent talk...

Kelly, 22, demands staggering £45k a week to stay at Anfield

Young England international Martin Kelly has stunned Liverpool by demanding £45,000 a week to stay at Anfield.
The 22-year-old defender, recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, has been told to reconsider his position as negotiations over a new contract hit a bumpy start.

High stakes: Liverpool's Martin Kelly

Liverpool, who play Manchester City on Sunday, are keen to introduce performance-related elements into their contracts for younger players and want Kelly to sign a deal similar to that recently agreed by Raheem Sterling, with a basic salary of about £25,000 a week, and an additional £10,000 a week if they play in the first team.

Now, now.
No quotes or sources. Just another article out of nothing.
You'd hope that anyway. If not he needs to fire his agents pronto.
He'll not get that amount anywhere else, nor will he get into a bigger club.
I refuse to believe an article like that. Remember Sterling's supposed 50k per week demand?

Would be good to see more performance/appearance-based contracts in football.

Might just keep players more grounded, hungrier and see them perform even better for their respective team.

I hope we do buy a CB but its unlikely to be a young guy, we need somebody to marshall the defence, so im inclined to think we need experience rather than promise

I like Kelly he has what it takes to make it at the top level at CB, I dont see him as a full back long term. But he needs to buckle down and work on getting back into the side not start mouthing off about wages when hes a fringe player. Id love him to stay but not for 45k a week

I wouldn't sell him. Young versatile talented defenders with pace and power don't grow on trees. Injuries are an enormous concern, but they can be overcome at that age and Gerrard is proof of that.

I also can't believe that some fans are jumping on him for these types of press statements after we have spent the last 6 months listening to lies about Sterling.
