The Firmino Holgate incident.

FA to investigate. That's going to go well.

They have to seeing as its in the refs report. And its in probably in the report because Holgate made the complaint, not because he heard anything.

But, given its the FA, us and an in form Firmino - it will obviously end with some sort of ban.

From Maddock:

Holgate clearly thought he had been insulted by the Brazilian, and suggested it had been a racist comment, but in fact he misheard, with Firmino clearly using a Portuguese phrase which basically called him a “crazy mother******”.

The matter seemed to have been settled at half time when Everton's backroom staff cleared up the misunderstanding with their defender, and that set up a wonderful tie, when Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised James Milner's opening penalty.

And at least Firmino didn't go to the ref after the game and admit to making reference to Holgate's skin colour.

We've learned

There's nothing in this, but the comments here about not being able to be racist 'cos same colour are fucking weird.

So a complaint has been made then, for fucks sake, this is the last thing the club needs hanging over it.
It doesn't say a complaint has been made. The referee will make his report and the FA investigate based on that.

Any chance the cunt of a ref deliberately kept his yellows so it could be looked at afterwards? If he had given out yellows to both that should have been the end of it?

At least we don't have to see all the actual racist abuse from 'fans', since he deleted his twitter account.

The media must be a bit gutted how this is all turning out.

He needs to watch more Narcos, puta becomes quiet a word in you vocabulary after that.

I don't think the ref is a cunt, just weak, and thick. He was also placed in an invidious position. Who wants to be the ref who sends off a player who, it turns out, was racially abused? His mind must have been racing, "I haven't heard owt, but I'm going to compound the abuse by sending this guy off and look like I'm siding with the racist abuse. Fuck that!"

This was class from Danny Murphy.. The silence in the studio made the comment oh so much better

It already started straight after the game, my daughters boyfriend is a blue and he text straight afterwards from the game, saying "your players are cheating racists".

They really are bitter fuckers.

Fuck that bastard straight off. Next time he comes to pick up your daughter tell him to sling his hook. Time for an 'arranged boyfriend'.

[bcolor=transparent]Indeed, welcome to the post-suarez new and improved default reaction to racism.[/bcolor]

I think he handled it well, because he most likely didn't know what the comment was and in what context. In that respect, I guess he spoke to the 4th official who advised him that without knowing what the comment was, he had to leave the incident open to review.

If it's dealt with retrospectively, then if there's any justice, Firmino should get a yellow for ungentlemanly conduct (or whatever the fuck) and Holgate should get a yellow for the push, and it should end there.

As it's the FA though.. It's kind of ironic, that that cheating twat Allardyce is leaving it in the hands of the FA. We'll see how much his previous counts for when the FA handout their report and subsequent punishments. I'll wager it won't go well for us, regardless of what happens to Holgate. We've been here before over other incidents. While Rio Ferdinand got handed a 90k fine for his "Choc-Ice" comment to Ashley Cole and then no subsequent action for taking the piss out of the punishment all over social media. They're fucking riddled.

I know I joked about it earlier, but if TAA said to Holgate, "yer Ma's a slag", no one would give a fuck at all.

You say he handled it well, but the push into the crowd, which was potentially dangerous, happened before the altercation. It was in no way provoked. It shouldn't be a matter for review or arbitration. It should have been punished. The Firmino stuff would need to be reviewed. But one crime was blatantly obvious, and should have been punished by the ref on the field.

Also- it shouldn't end there if Holgate has cynically cried racism to escape on field punishment, as seems entirely likely. That's reprehensible both in terms of defaming a fellow professional, but also in weakening the cases of players subjected to genuine racist abuse.

I don't know, it's a dubious law. If Holgate gets his punishment on the pitch, then Firmino's is reviewed more in isolation. Is that better for us?

EDIT: I agree about your last point, there should be retrospective action for this, but there won't be. He'll cry "I misheard" and that will be that.

One case needs to be assessed- rightly. If racist abuse occurs it needs to be punished retrospectively. The other case is an absolutely clear case of endangering an opponent. It isn't dubious. It is clear as day, it is on field and the punishment is too.

Fair enough, I didn't mean the incident was dubious, I meant because both incidents tie in, the rules are dubious as to what gets punished first hand on the pitch. Because they were connected, I can sort of see why it was left. On that note, it should be equally open to be reviewed and punished. I get your point though completely Doc.

I get why the ref shit out of making the decision though. And I suspect that is why the accusation was made in the first place. Which is fucking disgraceful.
