29 going on 30

I think that has little to do with it. he is playing further up the pitch and has little defensive duties (but is still capable of making amazing tackles to help us out)
I think the problem with gerrard is the service up to him has been terrible, lots of reasons for this but I think that is the long and short of it.

We expect far too much from him. If he's not scoring last minute winners, or banging in goals from 30 yards, he's automatically "playing shit" or "frustrated".

I actually think he does well not to lose the fucking plot with what's around him sometimes. Look at us when we're 1-0 down... Absolutely everything has to go through him, cos we don't have enough world class talents around him to take the thing by the scruff of the neck themselves.

There's nothing wrong with Steven Gerrard, apart from the some of the players he has to play with.

QFT

The Arsenal game summed it up. He was getting zero service, so dropped right back to in front of the defence, taking the ball from them & distributing it. Problem being he wasnt there to receive & no one else could get anywhere near his inch perfect 50 yard passes cos they're not good enough.

That pass he hit to Degen was sublime, but the only player on the pitch capable of receiving that perfect pass & doing anything with it was Stevie himself.

The lad must despair at times.

We are depending on the "dross" to achieve our fourth place finish. Many of them have been playing above themselves which enabled the good run which finished at the Emirates. I think we should try and support the "fringe" players, at least until we have some better ones.

Good point, I totally agree. I think that by and large Gerrard has been average, he has been carrying injuries apparently and he has missed Torres.

Well I was thinking of Diao, Diouf, Dossena Voronin & Josemi when I posted that. We have no one that bad left at the club.

Unless Torres is playing or Gerrard is performing heroics, we are extremely medicore. Hence, any lack of form from either is magnified.
