The core of Klopps Liverpool?

Klopps core team?

He's been pretty much forced to play certain players because we don't have any other options.

Mignolet - OK, it's been between him and Bogdan but it's clear that Ming is first choice.

Clyne - Obviously a part of our spine but we also have no competition for this spot. Except Randall and Flanagan.

Skrtel - Spine, no one is close to taking his place.

Sakho - Has been impressive, close to reaching Skrtel status.

Moreno - We have no other option, but he's played very well, except the goal we conceded against Chelsea.

Lucas - No other option, but Klopp seems to rate him. Came in to sure up the midfield yesterday.

Can - With Hendo coming back I can see that his place is up for grabs.

Milner - His place is also up for grabs, same reason as above.

Coutinho - Definite starter and part of our spine.

Firmino - Not there yet.

Lallana - Done well but I think Firmino is close to taking his place in the team.

Benteke - When fit he's a definite starter.

Allen - Squad rotation

Ibe - Squad rotation

Sturridge - I think he'll start when fit, but who knows? I think he's our best striker.

Henderson - Tough to assess. He's the captain but I don't think it's enough to convince Klopp to start him. We'll see.

The untouchables for me are:

Skrtel, Coutinho, Clyne and Benteke.

We have so many options in midfield but basically no backup full backs. Gomez was basically our only back up and he's out til spring.

Clyne and Moreno are gonna have to dig deep to make it through December and January if we don't find any back up for them.

For Chelsea's goal Milner was more at fault in my opinion. Had he not thrown himself in and tracked the runner the ball wouldn't have been crossed in the first place.

In regards to the untouchables I disagree with Coutinho. He had a good 40 minute spell against Chelsea. Other than that he hasn't performed since Klopp arrived.

I'd rather the cross come in and Moreno attempt to defend it

Firmino might not be there yet but these last couple of games he's looked on a steep upward trajectory.

He's untouchable-in-waiting...

You think? He's shown a few glimpses but largely been shite

firmino is a good buy. i don't think we have anyone in this squad who could go on to a torres/gerrard/suarez type level.

At the moment I'd actually say: Sakho, Skrtel, Clyne, Henderson, Coutinho and Benteke. Possibly Milner.

Moreno, Sturridge, Firmino could all become part of that first team spine if they get fit/ improve the basics/ reach top form. And of course if the above

But I'd certainly say that Skrtel isn't get any younger, so a new CB is required, and I would expect a new goalkeeper, DM and wide attacking player are priorities.

.

So the reason for Milners place is up for grabs is that Hendo comes back and grabs Cans place?

I could have barely named a single player as worthy of our core a few games ago but a lot of them who have been written off are now looking the part.

A few games in, I would have said that Clyne, Skrtel & Coutinho were the only untouchables but you can now add Mignolet, Sakho, Moreno, Lucas & Benteke to the list.

It's been really impressive the way that these players have grown in confidence in such a short time and I might be starting to fall into the trap that we don't need many new recruits. However, in the cold light of day the team are still lacking pace, composure and creativity in midfield and a cutting edge up front. Plus cover in both full back positions.

We also have to factor in that we still have Henderson, Flanagan, Gomez, Ings & Sturridge to return and under the new coaches, we may yet see the talent in Teixeira, Ibe, Markovic, Rossiter, Ojo, Kent, Wilson, Canos, Allan etc start to flourish.

Unfortunately for us, none of the other players that could play in Coutinho's position, has played well enough to displace him.
