No CL football next year. Brutal squad after 6 years and no defining style of play.

And there it is, ladies and gents. Succint. Accurate. Indisputable.

And 'cos it's from Dreamy, terrifying. 😉

We have a very good 11 or 12 players though, unfortunately we have a manager who fails to get the best out of them.
i think "very good" is a little bit of an exaggeration

"not awful" i'd go along with

If ancelotti had taken Chelsea to our position this season there's no question he would go. We should have similar minimum requirements.

I see your point but I really don't think we should be looking to emulate Chelsea's whimsical approach to hiring managers. We give our managers a chance here, and Rafa has had his. Time to move on.

The El Zhar substitution just shows how fucked in the head Rafa is at the moment.
Replacing our most influential player on the night, who clearly didn't want or need to be taken off, and replacing him with that cockgobbler was fuckin insane!!.

Aqua was linking things up very well, was confident on the ball and generally was dictating our play.
Bringing on the headless chicken turned the situation around totally.

As soon as that happened I immediately lost all confidence in us winning. In fact I was certain we would lose thereafter.

Fuck Rafa, fuck him in his ass. >🙁

Yeah the El Zhar sub summed it up for me too. He's hardly pulled up trees for the reserves so other than the fact he can occasionally be a bit quick against tired legs, I really don't understand the use of him. Symptomatic of Rafa's failings over the pace issue in the wide positions, he just doesn't know how to handle it. Or buy it for that matter.

The Europa Cup was the one chance of salvation. Surely there's no way he'll be here beyond the summer now, surely?

And I can't believe anyone would still want him here.

It's sad what low standards people have come to expect from our club.

we come full circle

over reliance on a brilliant but injury prone striker
over reiliance on indivdual moments of magic from a couple of indivduals
once tight defense all over the fucking place
no wide player to speak of
tactics too rigid
tactics too predictable
too many average players making up the numbers
players frozen out

I'm depressed and tired and I should maybe take time out to relect but right here and now I just want a change.

What a squad he has built!

Our best midfielder playing at RB.
A RB playing at LB.
And our two "last throw of the dice" substitutions to try and secure a European Final (however dimished the competition is)......

Philip Degen and Nabil El-Zhar

It's pretty hard to grasp when you first give it some thought, so it does bear repetition:

PHILIP DEGEN AND NABIL EL-ZHAR

I wonder if people would be willing to give Rafa more time if we'd actually won the final in 2007 too.

It's a shame. Rafa's been (generally) a brilliant European manager for us, and it would have been fitting - even after this wreck of a season - had he ended with a European trophy. People go on about it being a nothing competition, but it's worth remembering that the likes of Mascherano, Kuyt and Torres have never won a single medal at Liverpool.

Anyway, it's over, as is the season. As, I'm pretty certain, is Rafa's LFC career. And as, I hope, is the reign of Hicks and Gillett.

Every end is a beginning...

Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

Considering some still get all misty-eyed about the one he won 5 years ago I suspect so yes.

I'm one of them, Richey, and you better not hold your breath waiting for me to apologise for it.

As far as Anita's question goes - despite our abject failure to capitalise on Istanbul, I'd hope we might have learned lessons there and done better if we'd won in Athens (though I wouldn't bet on it with Parry still at the helm at that stage,). If we had and if some of the money raised had filtered into the side, the last few seasons might have gone better. As it is, I said earlier on this season that I'd accept fourth and/or a trophy. If we end up with neither, I can't help thinking even Rafa himself might decide it's time for a change.

There's 11 names Fabio who, by the majority, are considered somewhere between very good and fooking brilliant. A top manager should be able to motivate such players considerably better than Rafa has done this season. If our next manager is given the opportunity to work with these players (and the young talent like pacheco, Dalla valle, Shelvey) and add a few extra quality signings then we should become succesful again.

LOsing faith isnt pretty.

I do in all seriousness. It's sad that his spirit is broken. It just shows how much of a shit tip this season is that Rafa is now even losing his staunchest supporters.

When all else fails, bring on Degen. At right back.

Fuckinghell
Masher was fucked, he had to.
Plenty of players we're fucked Ryan. Masher would have kept going if the game lasted another hour.
El Zhar is the sub that gets up my skin. Was N'gog not fit to play? El Zhar is pointless.
I may be wrong, but I think Masher might have wanted to come off.

The Degen sub was fine by me, he's stretched things down the right for us before.
We f*cking limped out of Europe at home in a semi final against an average European team. FFS sake, take a risk go 3 at the back and bring on a forward.

The first 2 subs were laughable.
"go 3 at the back"

Do you watch how we play Dreamy? Going 3 at the back would have added a defender.

Which forward did you want him to bring on? N'Gog?
Give it up Ryan. You're not addressing the main issue. Every time it arises you neatly sidestep it.
I totally respect your footballing brain, you have analytical skills that few possess on this site, but that makes it all the more ponderous how you refuse to see that Rafa is cooked.

It just appears that the reason for your stubborn foolishness is that you somehow can't believe that you didn't see it coming, when people like Dreamy - Dreamy! - (who has the footballing nous of a cabbage) called it years back.

I'll always think that you are a scholar of the game mate. But you got to let this go. It's time.
Based on how the last two seasons have gone evidently not.

I do like Cabbage though.

You are correct though, its obvious Ryan is just disgusted he didn't see this coming a mile away as many have.

His defience to the end is hilarious now.

Said it from the start of the season, rafa is fucking stupid and i dont want him anywhere near our club after the season ends

Well, it looks like he's off. Kay and Barrett are running stories today, and Rafa has been banging on about not getting reassurances about his future from the club.

I'm thorn on this to be honest. On one side, Rafa is one of the top 10 managers in the World. If we can replace him with someone in a similar mould, then I'm all for it. He came in touching distance of the title last year, and we played some great football.

On the other side, I'm sick and tired of his controlling the game approach, defensive tactics in must win games, the lack of balls to go for the kill, tactical suicides and baffling substitiutions.

His latest press conference with his I haven't gotten any reascurances from the club shite was sickening. We gave you a new 5 year deal last summer, full controll of the Acadamy and in the transfer market. And still you have the nerve to say that you don't feel wanted? Fuck off!

If we can get our hands on Mourinho, then fine. If it's MON or someone like that, I feel we might regret sacking Rafa.
In other words, it's a tough one to call. And this summer is going to get very interesting from our point of view.

It will be interesting to see how he reacts after the final whistle tomorrow, in what could be his last home game at Anfield.

Okay.

Write me a list then. There aren't that many better managers around. Rafa might not have gotten it all right in the Premiership, but his record in La Liga and Europe are top notch.

No it's not. He'd be in most people's top 10 list without a doubt. But reputation and reality are not necessarily the same thing, and he's no longer the right manager for Liverpool.

Way to let Hicks & Gillette have it!!!!!!!!

And get who? Isn't it ironic that there aren't many better managers out there who we could realistically get or are available.

It's a shame the baying mob who seeks scapegoats look at Benitez or Lucas when there's been no investment in the squad in 4 transfer windows. £20m + sales was never enough, so to get just 'sales' and expect to win shit was always a big ask.

Sack Benitez? Benitez should sack Liverpool. For the record if he does go, I'd want Roy Hodgson.
