Suso vs Europe

He's obviously not as aggressive as Spearing or Flanagan, but like you say he'll harry opponents down. Rio's made a career out of it. The Spanish national team are superb at it.

I'm not sure what the "debate" is exactly, or who is involved in it. The only point I made was how ridiculous it was to compare Suso to Spearing or Lucas in terms of physicality, which I think is a perfectly valid one. And throughout, I've acknowledged how talented he is, and how that should be the decisive factor in whether he plays or not.

Saying he doesn't duck out of challenges is clearly bollocks however, because there are videos in this thread that show him doing just that. I can't comment on the regularity of it over a season, but he clearly does it. You might (legitimately) argue that he knows his limitations, and seeks to preserve himself, but you can guarantee that when faced by a 50-50, both Spearing and Lucas would launch themselves into it. I don't expect (or necessarily want) that from my creative midfielders, which is why the original comparison was a poor one.

Now...

I thought i only pointed out that despite Lucas or Jay not being "huge powerful imposing specimen", it didn't seem to stop them getting picked whilst under some of our previous managers.

In the context of what Doc said i don't think that was ridiculous at all.

It was ridiculous. You were basically saying that Lucas and Spearing got picked (despite their size), so there's no reason that Suso shouldn't. Which is absurd given that those are two of our most combative players, who play defensive midfield roles and relish the physical side of the game, while Suso is a very slight, teenage playmaker who would sooner avoid physical duels. A much easier argument to justify would have been to say that Suso is immensely talented, and that should see him get games.

Fair play to you Del, it takes balls to break with the consensus and stick the boot into this young, skillful player. Hahaha

I think you've forgotten what Lucas was like when he started out with us if you think he was one of our most combative players.

My point was that If previous managers were prepared to pick players like Lucas and Jay despite their physical limitations, then i don't see why they wouldn't of played someone the size of Suso who performs in a much less physically demanding position.
