Troare signed a 4 year contract the year before we sold him.

And both were for the same reason - we wanted rid, but knew there would be other clubs interested and didn't want to see the fee reduced because the players' contracts were running out.  I don't know how long Johnson had left on his existing contract when he signed his new one, but maybe Portsmouth were thinking along similar lines to us with those other two in terms of their price.
