Yes, I know we will never know exact amounts and usually these threads descend into a champ manager lovefest, but hey, its fun!

Assuming we start with 20m to spend, how much more can we raise if we sell players that can be sold?

Skrtel 12m (15m is also possible)
Borini 6m (let's cut our losses)
Downing 10m
Shelvey 7m (good player but has allen, lucas and jordan ahead of him).

I'm excluding likes of spearing, pachecho and so on (peanuts).

More could go but we don't want/ don't need a massive clear our.

That is around 50m or so (being conservative) - buy a cb, striker and a winger/dm (?unsure which is priority). and we should be fine!
 
I'm not sure Downing will go, though I'm guessing we'll try to get something while we can to get him off the wage bill and look to add another, younger attacker. I wouldn't be adverse to him staying though. The priorities have to be centre back and defensive midfield, both of which we need to be spending BIG on, or certainly wisely anyway. I hope Rodgers has learned his lesson about going for past players.

I agree that we should buy big - 2 players in the 18-20m mark and the rest on the odd young prospect.

I forgot about Assaidi - if we receive a 5 bid, I say sell, otherwise, it probably makes sense to keep him.
 
I think there's some issue we don't know about with Assaidi, maybe with him settling or whatever. He's looked good whenever I've seen him play, yet he doesn't get a look in. It's a strange one, so I think he's more or less a certainty to be off to Ajax or wherever.

Agree, he looks good, but without really being effective. maybe he has not been given the chance, but something very strange. early on he should have played more than downing, that is for sure.
 
Well, I'm guessing this summer will be all about quality.
Few players in for the right positions.

I think we'll have quite a bit of cash to burn aswell.
Extremely important window, as we're buliding something but need to get the balance right and improve.
We've been here plenty of times and fucked up.

As ever, it's been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of transfers, the excellent (Sturridge and, by the looks of it, Coutinho), the disappointing but not without potential (Borini and Allen) and then the sheer baffling (Sahin, Assaidi). As you say, it's imperative we get it spot on, which is why I'm not sold on talk of Williams, I don't think he's going to singlehandedly cure our woes, even if he may prove a good addition. We need someone big and commanding.
 
If Suso and Sterling could get some consistently in their game and make a big impact in the first team, we could save a ball of money improving the attack and focus on the defence/defensive mid.

It's a big, big ask though.
 
Sell Reina, Skrtel, Shelvey, and spend the kitty on a keeper, couple of cb's and a dm and we're laughing. Keep the rest as it is.
 
I expect the following to leave, either through asking to leave or to being surplus to requirements:

Reina - £6 million
Skrtel - £12 million
One of Shelvey or Henderson £7-10 million
Carroll £12 million

So we potentially have a decent amount coming in dependent on sales of course.

We will definitely need a goalkeeper and centre back.
 
I tend to agree with Oncy about keeping hold of what we have, I just don't think it's that feasible though and I think Skrtel will be looking to leave and possibly Downing, both are 28+ and we're at a point where we'll get something reasonable for them. Selling Reina is just barmy though, it's a crucial area of the team that we don't really need to be pissing about with, that said I think we may have a situation on our hands where he wants to go back to Spain.
 
I wouldn't sell Reina unless he wants to leave.

We must get in a top class centre back and central midfielder. We also need a striker.

I reckon Skrtel, Borini and perhaps Shelvey and/or Henderson will leave. We should get no less than 20m for that lot.

Our policy should be to buy proven quality first team players for big money, and supplement that with cheap unproven youth
 
A commanding centre half and steel in the middle and I'm happy with just that for the summer.

Rather we go for quality rather than quantity and both players with plenty of experience. We have enough kids, we need experienced players to guide them along.

I'd sell Carroll only if I could get away with it.
 
Forgot about Carroll. He'll leave and we'll cry about the fee. I'm guessing he'll turn down West Ham and end up at Newcastle.
 
Personally I reckon we spent our summer budget in January, so any signings will have to be funded by sales. Reina, Skrtel, Downing, Carroll, Coates, and Borini might all go, for whom I'd expect around £60m in total. Spend £30m on 2 centre halves and a keeper, and the rest on a striker and a winger. Should be plenty.
 
part of me is tempted to splash 30m or so on cavani. (i) he is class; (ii) provides something we don't have (power, directness); (iii) could helpd keep suarez. cavani, sturridge, suarez as the front 3. spend the 20m left on hummels or someone like him...

That part of you is stupid.

We're scoring goals for fun. The attack isn't the problem.
 
We'll loan out Shelvey and probably sign a top top Central midfielder, maybe Eriksen will come in. We'll need to replace Skrtel too, hopefully with Howedes and maybe another experience centre back to replace Carragher.
 
I believe skrtel will go, I hope we offer him to zenit as a makeweight for axel witsel because he would be immense for us!! Other than that maybe sell downing and get a new cb I wouldn't mind Kabul from spurs. Back up left back is also needed in my opinion and finally maybe a young striker/wing forward.
 
I'm not sure it makes sense to sell Downing any more. Sadly, it looks like Skrtel will go, Carroll must go; it looks like Assaidi's face doesn't fit for some reason so we should cash in there too. That's about 30 million there.

Every season the same.... we will never raise 50M will we.... Borini 6M to cut losses?? And who is going to part with 7M for Shelvey? What has he done to increase his value exactly?

I have been generally happy with FSG investment so far tbh, and would not be surprised if the spend again in summer after a decent january window, whether it will be enough who's to say....
 
Can't believe someone said we will sell Henderson. As if. Downing will stay as well

That's around 25M, which is not that bad. I'd keep the others unless they want out (possibly Skrtel, Reina). We'll definitely need 2-3 CBs (if Skrtel wants out we're left with 1 senior CB who used to be crocked all the time) and then possibly another versatile attacker, a DM and a backup LB. We should be fine.
